Brewman:

Just curious.  Would you mind sharing what the 1911 part of your ID is?

I have a theory

Brewman, I'm betting Gary is a fan of John Browning's 1911 .45 caliber pistols.  I do know he is a firearm fan as I "met" him on AR15.com and referred him to this site when he was looking for a spa.  What's your theory?

Terminator

Brewman:
Precisely what you said.

Being a 1911 fan myself, I was hoping to see someone else around who appreciates them.

There's just something about that design.  70 years in the military plus ongoing use by other units says a lot for Mr. Browning's handiwork.

Currenty, mine is a Springfield Armory Trophy Match Long Slide, in .45acp (of course!).  I don't even think that Springfield is making that particular model anymore.

Thanks for responding, Terminator.

That sounds like a great gun you've got!  A 1911 is on my wish list.  Right now, my carry gun rotates between a Sig 220 in .45 and a Walther P99 in 9mm.  I just bought a new Bushmaster AR-15 M4 variant last week, but haven't had a chance to shoot it. :(

In my former life, I had Wilson Combat as a customer.  They are one of the top custom 1911 shops in the world.  At the time, I wasn't really into shooting.  They were super folks to work with and when I get a 1911, will probably buy from them.

Brewman:
Wilson from what I've seen makes great 1911's.  I'd love to shoot one, but they're a little too rich for me just now.    I don't carry the 1911, it's too long and heavy.
That duty goes to my XD-40, smaller, lighter, but not as fun to shoot.  Very utilitarian.

I'd also love to have an AR-15 or the like, but there just isn't anywhere convenient near me to shoot a rifle.
