Unusual hot tub company.....
« on: December 04, 2006, 06:18:09 pm »

The use of a birthing pool for labour is now very common.

Waterbirth itself is on the increase.

Water is widely used to support a non-interventionist approach to
labour and birth at home or in hospital. It is recognised as a safe
option to support labour for healthy pregnant women. Water birth is
within the remit of normal midwifery practice.

instinctive mobility

Something almost magical often seems to happen as a woman
steps into her birthing pool during labour. She experiences
effortless mobility in the buoyancy of the water facilitating a
surrender to instinctive behaviour. This allows her to be more
creative about positions she can adopt for an active approach
to labour and birth.

"Many women have found that waterbirth gives the baby a gentle
entrance into the world and it provides a rewarding birth experience
for the mother herself"

Why are Blue Lagoon’s birth pools ideal for the job?

The design:

Blue Lagoon birth pools are hexagonal in shape and have been
designed specifically for their purpose, being hand-built by craftsmen
from attractive, robust natural wood. The walls are well insulated and
the birth pool retains its heat during many hours of use, requiring minimum
top-up.

Our pools are bigger & deeper than an ordinary bath at approximately

0.701 metres high (2 feet 4 inches). We believe this offers an optimum
depth for the labouring woman to comfortably kneel, squat or sit;
buoyancy effectively ‘cushions’ the woman in the pool.

We hold a variety of sizes of birth pool to suit different height women
and all our pools allow for more than one person in the pool, if desired.
At least two people can sit on the edge of the pool if necessary.

YUCK  I don't think they make enough chlorine to clean that one up!  Nor would you ever get me to sit it during the birth process.  I know I'm going to be slammed by a good number of parents but thats disgusting

And not too long ago just the thought of the father being present in the delivery room was disgusting  ::)

I've helped set up a few spas for a water delivery, and use to be on a local midwifes list for people that would do 24 hour emergency spa repairs.. the only thing I wouldn't do, was clean the spa afterwards.
If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

I work in a hospital that has an actual birthing "Jacuzzi". The Docs and Nurses hate it but the Midwives love it. The Midwives are nutty IMO. The things they want to use near water is amazing. Yes, there are GFCI receptacles but why chance it. Patients have come in and wanted that contraption that Zep posted.

I've asked how does the "Jacuzzi" get cleaned internally and their answer is  ... HUH?????

I have seen videos of an underwater birth - even Hot Springs 100% no by pass filtration would be challanged. It's one thing to put on your red LED and pretend your soaking in blood but ...

I agree - YUCK.

Neither hospital I delivered my boys at offered underwater births.  I have to admit I was curious about it.  I'm not a germophobe, BUT I still do have an ICK factor.  I would really have to inspect what they offered and be convinced that it was sanitary.  The idea of easing the delivery would be nice.  Popping out 9lb babies out of my 5' frame without medication isn't the easiest thing in the world to do.

I just don't know what to say about this.
Mama in the tub=ok
Daddy in the tub=his choice, but not me
Doc in the tub=priceless

This is not a good idea.....water births are far more dangerous than the traditional "going to the F'ing hospital to maybe let a PROFESSIONAL handle it". Water births are even more dangerous than at home "dry" births. The risk of infection is much higher.

birthing tubs....might I just say:
"ICKY ICKY EEEEWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!" :o It's one thing to soil sheets, walls, floor, doctor, nurse, taxi cab driver, what have you...but to sit in a tub, and PERCOLATING in baby juices?  :P And what happens when the mother is suddenly in need of a C-section, emergency style? That's like wrestling a ticked off hippo in a vat of Jell-O, just trying to get her out between contractions....NOT so much, IMO.
RIP C-Rod

when we had our baby this year, they encouraged us to use the birthing tub, and i said no to it.  I thought that it was one of the strangest things that I have ever heard of.  Just seems gross sitting in a tub full of blood and fluids.  Not my idea of spatopia!!
