Have you seen/read Les Miserables?

Brewman:
No.

Tell me more.

These guys do it better than I could:

I'm not saying that theft is ever "ok" but I'm a big believer is never saying never unless you have really known what someone else has gone through.

Brewman:
Thanks for the interesting link.  Gotta love that Wickipedia.

I was referring though, to more real life situations- I doubt that very many of the criminals trotting around my area are in that situation.
Most of the criminal activity around here (I'd wager 99.999%) isn't for survival, it's for a fast buck or to feed a drug habbit.

And I'm a pretty hard line person when it comes to behavior.  Today, especially in Minnesota, the land of a thousand entitlement programs, nobody has to resort to crime to stay alive.  It's a lifestyle choice, IMHO.

anne:
I think you are absolutely right that the far, far majority of stealing, or crimes of any sort are NOT out of necessity, and I find it abhorant (sp? too lazy to check) that anyone could think that their need/greed could be justified in any way. I just find that for my own sanity and health of my own spirit, I need to always find multiple ways to look at why people do the things that they do.

In reality, the majority of people suck, and if our majority represents us as a whole, we as a species deserve the grave were digging ourselves. But that is just TOO cynical for everyday survival.
