On Saturday night we had some friends over for a soak in our clean tub (just refilled two days prior). After we had a very long soak, one of the friends informed us while we were drying on the deck that he had a yeast infection on his thigh and butt and was hoping the chlorine took care of it! :o. I was pissed, because I was concerned the yeast would cause problems (particularly me and my daughter) if you know what I mean.
#1: Can the yeast be spread this way in the tub? (I use chlorine)
#2: Should I drain it (again) and scrub, or can this be killed with chlorine?
Please help & thanks in advance.

I dont know to much about it but I would think you should be fine,if it makes you feel better throw in 1/2 cup of chlorine and never invite them over again.
-
That is just nasty......

Wheat or Rye? ;D

Sour Dough ;D

Sour Dough ;D
First..."I think I threw up a little in my mouth"
2nd - I agree with Jacuzzi Jim, shock it and never invite him over again.
3rd - Who gets a yeast infection on their thigh and butt, them admitts to it?

Interesting question; I wound up using my coffee break to learn more about yeast infections than I really wanted to know. Here's what I learned:
1. Everyone has yeast (candida albicans or some other strain) in small amounts in a remarkable number of locations on the body. Mouth, ears, vagina, (Odd. I didn't type "girl thingy"!) anus, skin... and it doesn't bother us a bit until something (diabetes, allergies, medications, pregnancy, illness) upsets the balance and the yeast begins to bloom.
2. It is not particularly contagious. It is not spread by kissing or by skin contact, though some web sites list it as a low frequency STD.
3. It's easy to cure, though some folks seem inclined to recurring infections.
4. I didn't find any proscriptions against public swimming with a yeast infection (remember, though, hot tubs are different - warmer, less water volume), only advice to dry well after swimming. Didn't have time to research this thoroughly.
If your water chemistry was good before the soak, and if you are in good health, then from what I've read your chances of an infection are quite low.
IMO a friend would say, "I'd love to have a dip in your tub, but I've got a yeast infection and I don't want to put you or your family at any risk. Do you think the chlorine will handle it?" Then you could do the kind of research I did (10 min. gave me all kinds of info), check your sanitizer level, and make your own decision.
Last year, someone raised a similar issue about a visitor with a toe-nail fungus http://www.poolspaforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1970&hl=fungus. At least he asked. Never did find out if the lady let fungus-toes into her spa.

Tom, I'm impressed, you were able to provide a helpful response instead of acting like a 12 year old boy (like everyone else). ;)

Dear Doctor Tom:
I've got this pain in my side. It only hurts when I do this (cue video) or buy tub chemicals online rather than from my dealer.
Appreciate it if you can look it up on your coffee break tomorrow and let me know what you recommend I do.
(Boy, am I leaving myself open on this one!)

Brooke:
I'm actually 13 and have the acne to prove it.

Ok, Rich...I see turning 50 has turned you into a wise guy!!
That's not acne, that's a staph infection ..all older people get staph infections ;D
I'm with Brook all the way on this one. Great job Tom..Mskitty was obviously concerned (and she is a newbie). I'm curious as to how everything turned out. Hopefully, she didn't share her (ex) friend's infection...

Ok. It's not acne or a staph infection.
Truth be known, its a LIVER SPOT.
Maybe you or Brooke can tell me where I can find some waterproof foundation that won't come off in the tub.

being as I'm one of the 'lucky' ones that's sensitive to the yeasties (yay, me :-[ ), I'd freak enough to do a sanitize/drain/scrub/refill. If his 'condition' was bad enough he hoped dichlor would clear it up, why take any risks? I'd also NOT invite him back over, and maybe pour some beer down his back at a gathering where he'd have to either keep the wet, yeast-laden pants on, or leave....but then, I'm vindictive when I PMS...and sometimes (see: usually) when I'm not. ;)

Boy, talk about a disgusting photo!
I feel sorry for MsKitty, she comes to this forum for some advice, and what does she get? A lot of sarcasim from the little boy's. As the saying goes, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

Due to the lack of appreciation for a little humor in this thread, I respectfully deleted my seemingly inappropriate response even though it was not directed to anyone nor was it cruel in any way or form (re: Imus). Please forgive my terrible lack of judgment.

Seriously, if one of the members who have been on here forever posted that question, the funny responses would have been fine. We all kind of know each other.
I think that the poster was looking for some serious information as she was obviously upset.
So, you can still have your job, Windy, but anymore crude remarks and you will be banished to satellite radio ;D ;D ;D ;)

I see nothing wring with a little humor, lighten up!
They were offered sound advice and then there was a little humor added to it.
Whoever objected to the humor also probably had a heart attach when Janet Jackson showed a little skin at the Super Bowl and is probably a democrat.

the democrats didn't care about the wardrobe malfunction it was the other way around.

I didn't object to the attempt of humor... I thanked Tom (sorry I missed you Jim) for his post. If you've been here for any time at all... you should know I am not easily offended and Janet Jackson's boobs would be the last thing to offend me.

Get'em, Brooke!
Sounds like he's just some sorry ole 'publican who wandered in lookin' for a soon-to-be-needed job. (he started it and I couldn't resist!)

Dear Rich
Do you have me confused with Dr. Spa? I'm not a doctor, but I suggest:
1. If it hurts when you do that, then don't do that.
2. Ask your dealer to remove the knife he stuck in your back for buying somewhere else
Please see a mental health professional about your age confusion, or a cosmetologist for makeup advice.
(I can't believe I'm spending another coffee break on this. It's more contagious than a yeast infection.)

I am surprised WHYNOT has not asked
if you can catch "athletes foot" in a hot tub!

Tom:
Thank for the medical/psychiatric advice. Send the bill although at my age I will likely forget to pay it.
Zep:
Love the band-aid.
