Title: Anyone change the location of your cover lifter?
Post by: pg_rider on April 26, 2007, 01:46:18 pm
So now that I've had my tub for six months I've figured out where I want more privacy; this has become especially obvious now that they've built a three story house right behind mine!  So basically I want my cover to open 90 degrees different to how it opens now to provide some privacy.  I hate to have to re-screw the lifter into two fresh sides of the tub leaving holes in the other two sides, but it has to be done.

Anything special I need to do?  Obviously I need to line everything up before screwing it in.  I've never mounted a lifter though so just want to check with the experts...

Your spa is square so all you should have to do is unscrew all the mounts be carefull if you have hydrolic shocks as the brakets will want to shoot down possibly scratching the spa skirt  remove shocks if you can first this can be hard sometimes.

Spin the whole works to where you want it and reattach the mounts to the spa.

If you have a synthetic skirt you may want to predrill pilot holes for the screws
I have seen the synthetic material split before.

You can fill the old holes with silicone or wood putty if you can match the color,we have also put same or similar screws back in then covered with the little plastic caps that come with the lift.  If you need some of those I have quite a few I would send you, same with the screws.

  Good luck!!

I did that very thing- moved the lifter 90 degrees.  Redwood skirting.
My spa is square, everything lined up very nicely, and the old screw holes aren't really even that easy to spot.

I would just spin the tub, but if you're set on just moving the lifter, everyone's suggestions thus far have been good.

That would be wise!

Spinning the tub may involve moving wiring as well. Mine would have.  It was easier to move the lifter 90 degrees.

One thing you need to be aware of is that if the hinge is over the control panel, you MAY have your touchpad fail prematurely.  I would advise puting a clear bead of silicone around the touchpad if you do have it/put it this way.
