I do this service where I drain, clean, refill and balance peoples water (I charge 75 bucks) My curiosity is 2 fold, what temp is your source water and where do you live? Mine is 41 here in Duluth MN and 42 10 miles away from Lake Superior and 43 8 miles further away. I did mine and 2 others this weekend. Second question, would you pay 75 bucks to have someone do this for you? Seems to cheap to me I spend a couple hours or more doing it, yet alot of people think it's to much.

I do the same thing in Georgia, but charge $125 and if further than 20 miles I add an extra $25.
Easy money, lots of lazy people out there.

In my area the sales guys get $100 for the service on the side. More money going through the dealer.

I agree. There's a reason America is the fattest nation in the world. I myself like to do as many things as I can handle on my own. Changing water is pretty easy to do and while I'm doing the change, I take care of other things around the yard.

I charge $169, but I also clean and wax shell, clean cover and treat with 303, check all equipment, clean filter etc... Generally takes 2-3 hrs. For an extra $60 I will stain the cabinet. Rarely does the final bill stay under $250 (pump seals, filters, chems etc...)

I think charging $75 is more than reasonable, but personally I'd never pay you to do it. I think that is the minimum you should charge, given the time and travel, but I just cannot conceive of why people dont do stuff like this on their own. I will not hire someone to do what I can manage.
I have a friend who just bought a 3700 sq foot brand new home, and was lamenting that now she has to fork out probably 20 grand or so for "landscaping." When I suggested that she do it herself, she gave me a look of horror. I even told her I'd help. Still just a blank look of horror.

How many people do their own Oil change on their car? I don't either but it probably isn't that complicated, I do change my own water and clean the tub which takes much longer to do, I wonder why?

We charge $125 with a $5 fuel surcharge for draining, cleaning, refilling, and diagnostic check.
Our source water comes out at about 47 degrees or so in the spring and gets to be in the 60s when it's hot.

I used to change the oil in my cars, but with the local shop charging $15 for it, and a tire rotation to boot, I can't pass it up. Costs me about that for 5 quarts of oil, and a filter. Maybe a bit less, but not by very much.
I still change the oil for my motorcycle and boat. Boat and Cycle dealers charge WAAAAAY more for this stuff than car oil chages. And it's basically the same process.
If I called in someone to change my spa water I guess I'd expect the charge to be at least $75- I won't pay someone to do that, but that's what I'd expect the cost would be. Or more. It would be at least a one hour job, assuming the tech brought a turbo pump to speedily drain the spa. Takes about 45 minutes to drain using the spa drain, and another 45 minutes to refill out of the spigot.
Plus time spent cleaning the shell, cover, etc........
I do as much of my own work as I can- but I'm a hands on kinda person, and relatively cheap.

For $75... do you bring your own water, or does the homeowner supply theirs! ;)

It's been my experince you can't get any professional to your house for less than $75 to do anything. :P plumber, electrical, pool, spa,
escorts ...errr...bible study tutors.

We've just started offering this service for $150. I have no idea what the water temperature is.

There was a time when I needed money and did some things I wasn't too proud of. My "screen" name was Mike Rotch. Tough times. ;)
