I have to know. Ladies, do any of you soak during your monthly cycle in the buff? :-?
My wife and I are having a conversation about tub use (we hardly ever use ours). She feels a woman should not go into the water (under water, swim etc.) during her menstrual cycle. We have a good friend who is a nurse and she assured her that there is no danger as the body seems to prevent any, dare I say, leakage. So I thought I would post it here and find out. No, she cannot take some obvious preventative measures because of personal issues.
I apologize if I offended anyone! I promise you this is on the up and up. :-/
-
Not a woman, but I do repair medical equipment! 8-)
As long as there is a cork in there I don't see a problem. ;)
Now if you have any bears or sharks that frequent the area, I wouldn't go in the tub during that time! ;D
-
Better be happy this is the internet Vinny, I know more than one woman that wouls coldcock ya' for such a statement.

Hey, Jacuzzi people get upset when a tub is referred to as a Jacuzzi, I'm not sure how the Tampax people would react if I used that trademark! The only other word I came up with was feminine napkin and I believe that's a pad ... and that's not useful in this situation!!!
PS ... I was not looking to offend anyone with that statement!

Just for future reference Vinny, I believe the word you were searching for was "tampon". ;)
-
My ex would wear a tampon and a bathing suit bottom during her period.
I thought that was the only way to go? :-/

I know this statement was directed at Vinny but as a man myself, I can tell you straight up that that coldcock would have to be in my sleep.
-
Vinny, thanks but I know I would grimace and more than likely ask you to leave if you said that in the presence of my wife.
OK, lets get this thread back. I'm serious about this question. What is the scoop? Does the female anatomy include something that prevents leakage or is a feminine hygiene product the answer?
-

If you wear something outside the tub why would you take it out/off when you get in the tub? :-/
What about women giving birth in water? I don't think they'd do that if water seemed to prevent any leakage? :-/
Wouldn't you think a woman would feel more comfortable just wearing something? :-/
-
Why Not, you are cracking me up. This whole question stems from a nurse friend of ours that swears the female body will not leak during the menstrual cycle. Problem is my wife will not risk it. I cannot say I blame her for not wanting to test it. The problem is some women are seriously bothered by things like Kotexes. My wife is one of those woman. So what are her options?
-
I have an IUD so my leakage is minimal, but I do tub in the buff all times of the month. I'm not concerned about it.
-
I suppose there is no better place to try that theory out than your own private tub where your own body fluids aren't an issue.
I have never heard of the "no-leakage-while-in-water" theory before.
Doesn't mean it isn't true, but I for one, would never try that at a public pool. The embarrassment factor would be too great.
What happens then when you stand up to get out?? Yikes!! :o
Maybe a practice run in the bathtub first?! :)
-
;DThe filter will catch it. :o
Brookenstein has a point, my girlfriend has an IUD as well and its never been an issue. I mean tubbing in the flesh hasn't been an issue, not the IUD...OH WHATEVER.... :o
-
Maybe I am a sick individual but after reading a couple of these post I was laughing my butt off, am I alone in this?
-
This whole question stems from a nurse friend of ours that swears the female body will not leak during the menstrual cycle.
Is this nurse a Male Nurse? ;D 27 years of living with one female and 9 years of reproductive years with another I know that is wrong. I've seen rolled up TP used as a stop gap (pun intended) until re-enformcements can be had. If you think about it, the pad is an external device so it has to leak. So any woman entering a tub during Aunt Flo's visit should be plugged.
Hopefully that will end this discussion :-[
-

Thanks! That word escaped me for some reason ... maybe because it is so close to Tampax.
I really wasn't trying to be insulting, didn't know it was a bad thing I said!

Pshew, when I saw you post again, Vinny, I was thinking
OH NO...he wants to do another experiment :o :o

The nurse in question is a female nurse that has 25 years as a RN. Interestingly enough she will not try and find out on her own (and in her own tub) though.
I will now have to let every one know that we, those of us that visit this forum, can undoubtedly say that we know the truth. Yes, as explained by our fearless moderator, things will and apparently do……leak!
You know, after thinking about it and realizing the medical community are always warning pregnant woman to not use a hot tub does away with the theory that there is anatomical device in the female’s body that prevents flow, both in and out. To think I could of just asked Bill! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I know there are at least several people groaning that this is going to be further commented upon, however...in high school I was on the swim team, and the coach (female) wouldn't take "sorry coach, I don't have any plugs, I can't practice" as an excuse to stay out of the water. She'd make us go into the locker room, grab some TP and use it as a temporary fix. I recall doing that ONCE...definitely NOT a performance that I ever wanted to repeat, but I certainly was not about to try going without...
"Gravity: It's not just a good idea, it's the LAW!" <---enough to scare the tar outta me just considering the potential red face factor.

Here's a possibility.

OK Term, what the heck is that?

Lt. Dan calls them "fried Twinkies" (police jargon I reckon).
I call it a ttub plug, but I'm dyslexic.

OMG, I am hurting my self laughing at that. Too mothering funny!

Speaking for my self, there is no "upset" just a gentle reminder that Jacuzzi is a brand name and not a generic term used to describe any hot tub/spa. C'mon over here and let me show you the difference between, oops, almost went into my pitch there.

OK I want to know ....
How come I get advised that I said something wrong but ...
Tatooed_Lady referenced a plug and Term is showing a toy ;) and nothing is said to them.
I want answers!!!!! >:(

Aren't you in California now?
Man, it would be a killer to get your techs to come service my tub!

I don't know what the big deal is? I don't think Vinny or anyone need be cold-cocked. Women do not cease to live normally during their cycles.

Isn't the English language a riot? Any other temperature mentioned, and that sentence would be considered indecent... :D

NO!

I think my wife would laugh. But then again, she's a big Howard Stern fan.

This thread is hilarious. I have to ask Term, how does it come to pass that you have such an item as this?
Bill
PS. As to the question, I asked my wife who is a professor of human anatomy and physiology. She said that every woman is different and whereas it might be no problem for some, it might for others. She suggested that individual evaluation, comfort level, and discretion are the obvious and best guidelines.

is this thread still going, and going, and going???? ;D ;D
Vinny,
I got your back, ok pal? ;)

Vinny,

Thanks Bama!!!
The way people reacted I really was thinking I said something insulting which wasn't my intention.
Maybe because I'm from NY or that I'm a guy (at least the last time I looked ;D) and I know my sense of humor is different than others that I was trying to be "cute" with my choice of words (the word tampon really did escape me) and I accepted that I was wrong until Tatooed_Lady posted what she did and then Term posted that picture!
Also, with some of the POD's that are posted ...
At least I know that someone was OK with what I said ... I'll got your back too!!! 8-)
-
I took no offense to what you said at all Vinny....hope my giving you the right word didn't imply that!!! ;)

Nope! That's because you used the " ;) "

:o By that standard, you can get away with almost anything! ;) ;D

Apparently you can't get away with a cork plugging something up around here! :o
-
might I just interject that I DO refer to the small, cotton inserts as "corks" and "plugs" on a regular basis, and in no way, shape or form is my wording to reflect the pictures that another forum member may've posted....especially any that Term might post.....I'm surprised he hasn't posted a sheep with a rope around its waist yet...(for those "heavy flow" days, yanno)

Oh jeez, you know better than to give him ideas!
-

Vinny,
Here in the deep south we can say absolutely anything about someone, as long as we preface our statement with, "Bless their heart"!!
I suppose the ;) emocion is used much the same way!
Well, NOW it will be! ;)
-
Well I'm glad I started a thread that has been so widely read. I can now offer an update. My wife does use the tub and uses a Kotex (thanks Vinny), the RN friend of ours is sticking to her story about the ala natural method and not leaking. I am not willing to offer our tub as test tub) My wife thinks Terms suggested method is "Neanderthal" and "Pig" like. ;D
Don't worry Term I think my wife thinks most men fit that category including me. :P
Perhaps I should use Terms plug when I feel gas like. Hmmmm!
-
...Maybe a practice run in the bathtub first?! :)
Perhaps lost in all the terminology discussions and male opinions on the topic was this reasonable suggestion.
FWIW, my wife (the medical professional) thinks that the issue is minimized by a trip to the restroom and urination prior to entry. In her opinion, the body part in question is not water tight, and some contamination is inevitable as water washes the area, but given the short time in the tub, little new material is likely to be added, with or without a tampon. She also opines that actual amount of material entering the water would be minute and it will be diluted so quickly by the moving water that it would not be noticible, because it isn't in bathtubs with less water and no dispersal. Finally, she would remind us that the material in question is no more "gross", and probably less bacterially significant than what is being soaked off other body parts. :o :)
-
Oh jeez, you know better than to give him ideas!
yeah, but he saw through the cheap, cheesy ploy and didn't respond.... :D
-
You know what the funniest thing is .... out of all the people who responded to this thread it seems some of the GUYS were the ones who took offense!
I am sure glad I didn't offend any females around ... as for the males that were offended - :P ;D
-

When Term takes the high road what does that say about us?
C'mon Term, one sheep with a rope and a fried twinkie so we can save face.
Better put a hot tub somewhere in there too, gotta keep it on topic.
-

I dont think the men were offended, more that some are weirded out and dont like to deal with THAT side of feminine physiology. A topic like this isn't too likely to offend women. For us it is just life. For those men out there NOT bothered by the conversation, I dont mean to generalize about you guys. Sorry.
And I'm with Reese's wife- no it is not watertight, but you can minimize leakage, and a very small amount is just never going to be more of an issue that what is already on the rest on your skin. As for the RN holding to her story, I dont get it.
-
...As for the RN holding to her story, I dont get it.
My wife's theory on that was: Since any minute leakage that occurs would disperse so quickly that it would not be noticable, it would be easy to assume that nothing got out. She also notes that water encourages both male and female genitalia to stay in their contracted form (for you Sienfeld fans, "shrinkage" :D), and that may help convince the RN that the part in question is like a frog's a**. ;) :)
-

EEEKKK!!! :o NO "fried (term style) twinkie" added to the sheep on a rope pic! THAT would be for a completely different board.......
-

Ummm... that's *cold* water, not hot! Men's anatomy does the opposite when it's warm, that's the whole purpose of the external organ, heat regulation.
P.S. Great episode.
-

LOL! I knew I should have stayed out of this! ;D
Since the thread was about female anatomy, I'll defer to my wife on this. Evidently, the natural response to new stimuli :o is to contract, regardless of temp. However, if you stay in long enough to raise body temp, increased circulation may eventually cause some of the reaction you describe. As far as "whole purpose", the only equipment that attempts to regulate heat is an important pair that tries to keep "little swimmers" comfortable. 8-)
I think my work here is done! :-X
-
(for you Sienfeld fans, "shrinkage" :D),
I think Seinfeld had an impact on business terminology. Internal/external theft used to be called "shrinkage". Ever since that episode aired, theft has just been called "shrink."
