We are not usually open on Sundays. Our other store in Newbury Park was always open on Sunday, but not our Ventura store.
However, I am always be glad to make an appointment for a Sunday afternoon if somebody would like to take a wet test.
I did so today.
And sold TWO spas!
Yahoo! I don't mind givin' up a nap for that! No sir.
The couples got along well, had fun, and actually helped each other decide. It was cool. The couple who was there for the wet test came right on time, and promptly suited up and climbed into the Envoy. They were interested in the Jetsetter and Prodigy. I didn't have a wet Jetsetter, but the recliner in the Envoy is similar, and they can try the Moto Massage out that way. I had also filled the Prodigy for them. I did that Friday when we made the appointment.
They liked the Moto, but decided they could live without it, and purchased my last '06 Prodigy, a cover "Lift N Glide" and an extra rubber duck. Sand interior, Redwood exterior, Rust cover, not step.
The other couple had wet-tested last week and were actually on their way to buy a Jacuzzi. But the guy was talking negative about HotSpring, and said that the MotoMassage had bearings which would rust. (It has no bearings, and even the spin jets which DO have bearings are SS and will not rust). Also, the model they liked was smaller than the Vista and cost the same.
So they patiently waited as I wrote up the first couple, thanked them and sent them off with big smiles, pats on the back, a couple of bottles of HotSpring water to drink, and their wet towels in a beach bag. Then we sat down and they wrote up a new Vista. They chose Sterling Marble, Espresso siding and cover, a step, Uprite Cover Lift, and an extra rubber duck. They elected to use the 90 Day Same-as-cash program. They must have great credit - it took about four minutes for the approval to come back from American General.
Now, I think I'm too keyed up to go back and take a nap!
I'll see if I can find a way to calm down...
Maybe I'll go soak in my Grandee. Trouble is - it's 92 degrees out there today, so I may have to wait till this evening.

You are obviously new to this forum......
Way to go Chas!!

Congrats. Isn't bein' in business grand?

re: "what is it with Hot Springs guys and tooting their own horn??? "
waylon33....I see you are a "newbie".
Look relax....there are lots of Hot Spring dealers/owners that
frequent this message board. And they love their brand and
that means alot of HS cheerleading. And HS appears to be
one of the best tubs backed up with good customer service.
One HS guy even dedicated a thread saying "how great the new HS 2007
Brochure was". I can imagine if I had dedicated a thread titled "CalSpa's
great new 2007 brochure".....LOL
With that said....the HS dealers are helpful to everyone.....HS owner
or not ......they will offer you alot of sound technical advise and problem
solving with your tub. This site would not be nearly as informative without
the HS guys/gals.

If you got it, Flaunt It, baby, Flaunt It!! :)
-
Congrats Chas. That should help you towards your new Grandee. Are you going with Sterling Marble/Expresso this time? :)
-
I don't know- that Aria is lookin' pretty nice.
But I like the Pearl and Espresso I think.

not new, just new to posting. Keep pitching hot springs!
And this is how you choose to come out of your shell? Hardly a productive member.

Maybe you should just go ahead and rename this forum to
whats the best hot spring .com
That pretty much what this board consists of most of the time

I'm sorry, that is just a lame worthless comment.

Is it... I wonder? My weekend consisted of a 2006 J345, 2007 J335 and a 2006 J480. All customers were first time in the store. All were told to by me to compare my Jacuzzi® hot tubs to Sundance and Hot Sprigs for quality to quality comparrison, all left the store with signed contracts. Yeah, that's what I said, compare quality with Hot Spring, you may find that hard to believe coming from me, you just will never find me cheerleading for any other brand on the internet.
I'm sorry, that is just a lame worthless comment.

I am always surprised (ok, annoyed) that many pool and spa places are closed on Sunday. >:(
What's the busiest day for you dealers? How late do you stay open?
I have still yet to see my new hot tub, as the dealer is only open 9-5 Monday -Friday.
I'm sorry, that is just a lame worthless comment.
I agree.

WMCCALL,
Just being a realist and stating a fact, thats all. But thanks for being a unbiased moderator.

The forum is what the members make it. I try to stay as hands off as possible. Nobody is stopping you from cheerleading it. In this case Chas did it in an way he though was interesting, and I'll bet a lot of people did.
I'm growing weary of all the childishness, which seems to be on the high end of the cycle currently.
It may be my time changed induced bad mood, but I'm sick of it. It might be time for me to move on.

If opening the store on an off day to help out a potential customer results in 2 sales and happy customers, I'd think Chas would be very happy to "take his medicine".
How can you try to turn a post from an Independent dealer, and member of this board who decides to use his day off to help someone shop, and you turn into some negative Hotsprings insult is amazing, and more a reflection on yourself than anything else.
congrats Chas.

re: Maybe you should just go ahead and rename this forum to

consists of most of the time
Well Huggieville (are Huggieville & waylon33 the same person?)
there is no doubt this board is dominated by Hot Spring
but that does not mean you can't get tons of great free advice.
Hot Spring is one of the biggest sellers of tubs so it is logical
that they are going to have alot of fans touting the product.
In my opinion this board is at it's best when it is problem solving
giving out technical advice on broken parts, chemical advise, and
showing a potential buyer what to look for in general terms like
wet test, warranty, trip-charge, pad design, electrical hook-ups, ect....
and this forum is at it's worst when it is between the lines
"my tub is better than your tub".
So Huggieville...as with anything....there is good and bad....
I suggest "soaking" in the great free advice and ignoring
the other non-sense.
;)
-
Me thinks everyone here has missed the point, possibly even Chas! What this is about is "Customer Service". Granted, tub brand plays into this however, the customers found a dealer "Chas" who obviously knows the value of service before the sale. Which also makes me think he knows the value of service after the sale. I would think the vast majority of dealers that contribute to this site are very customer service oriented.
The customer obviously had a desire to look at a Hot Spring spa. What would of happened if Chas opted not to open on Sunday? Another dealer may have met the customers desire and made the sale(s). Chas won not by providing Hot Springs, but rather by providing a dealership based on customer service that happened to sale the Hot Springs brand!
Congratulations!
-
Hey Zep,
You are right there is tons of great free advice on this board and that is why I started coming to it regularly for help and advice since I first discovered it. I was a frequent visitor but never posted until just recently. But you have to admit to people just visiting or to people not associated with HS, this board in our eyes is biased towards that brand. Every time people come on here asking about buying a differnt tub, there is at least one HS dealer if not more coming on here and saying look at this or that, sometimes even sending links to the HS dealer site. Just gets old after while. If you look at the forum rules it says this is supposed to be a unbiased free board for advice and it is the fartherst thing from unbiased.
Seems that this is turnign into a frequesnt conversation on a weekly basis. What does that tell you.
Also, sorry I forgot to say until now. but congrats Chas on selling 2 spas.
-
Nothing is stopping anyone from posting a similar story- Sundance, Cal, Arctic etc...
all could have done the same thing as Chas, and posted a similar story.
What would the reaction have been if this was a Marquis or Coleman or (insert spa brand here) any other brand?
-
You managed to get there during his open hours to purchase the spa, what is preventing you from getting there to "look at your new spa" during his open hours? Why not just wait for it to hit your back yard, then you can look at it every day? For me, many kudos to the dealers that close on Sunday. TAKE THE DAY! Enjoy your familys. I wonder how those dealers that close on sunday feel when they get to a store they wanted to check out and find it closed on a Sunday? The NERVE! ::)
I am always surprised (ok, annoyed) that many pool and spa places are closed on Sunday. >:(

Hey Chas, just curious...does working Sunday's contradict your beliefs in Christianity in any way? Sundays can be lucrative with sales but some won't open at all or sell due to their beliefs of the day of rest.
As for the “cheerleading”, anyone is open to do so and if you have a great story to tell about a successful event or weekend, I’m sure we would be open to seeing it. I think more importantly, it would interesting to know what you did to make it successful from a pricing, advertising, marketing and sales perspective rather than just “we sold 5 spas today”. We can all learn from the more successful dealers and this is a great format to share those things I think… Just my $.02…
Steve – Soon to be posting less (I promise) ;)

I LOVE daylight saving time! Sun is up late, I don't have to drive home in the dark, I still have time to get out of doors things done, YEAH DST, YEAH DST, YEAH DST GO DST, there's my cheerleading! Save the cheerleader, save the world!
It may be my time changed induced bad mood, but I'm sick of it.

Saturday and Sunday were supposed to be days off for me...I went in because I felt a pull to do so. Sales have been slow, weather has affected us poorly.
Before I did I said a little prayer, asked for it to be productive for me to be in there and that I make a difference to my customers and crew.
Started the day with some training on sales and customer service (I don’t usually do the training myself but I will more often!) and it really pumped the guys up.
We sold 12 spas and have wet tests scheduled on at least 2 more!! 2 were D1's but most were Marquis...one of our best weekends ever without a sale going on.
Great weekend...glad I was prompted to be part of it.

This used to be a big pet peeve for me (I've mellowed on it a bit). It can be annoying if done the wrong way and I don’t doubt you’ve seen a Hot Spring owner/dealer do this but it happens with MANY brands. There are owners/dealers who do this for Marquis, Sundance, Jacuzzi, Artesian, Cal Spas, ETC. It is very often done with the best of intentions yet other times its just “homering” and can be annoying, but its hardly a Hot Springs thing.
Sometimes the subject title of the post may even be specific where they may state "I'm considering brand A or B" yet someone may respond "how about brand C" or "you really should see Joe Blow over in Springfield who carries XXXXX spas".
I’ve commented to a few people who were over the top with it in the past but the poster asking will just need to filter as needed. It's not like they're soliciting their opinions to unsuspecting kids on the playground.
BTW, well done Chas and Stuart.

Nope. I won the tub. ;).
I need to talk cement pads and since this guy does decks too, I want to try and give him lots of my money for that too. I just wish he made it easer for me. >:( I mean, come on, no weekends and m-f 9-5? That's pretty bad. There's a pool place nerby me that has similliar hours which is a pain for me (and I imagine others too), but at least that guy is opne during the week later than 5:00.
Other stores manage to keep some after 5:00 hours and be open on the weekends. I wonder how? ::)

I've seen negative comments about a lot of spas. HS has the aux control panel issue. D-1 jets get hard to turn and remove, Seamonkey spas have that whole thermonuclear explosion issue (Term set me straight on 'em), etc.
But when I was looking for a spa, I received advice on different features on spas made by several manufacturers. It all helped me make an informed decision.
But, if a dealer doesn't talk about his product, who will? Without salesmen, nobody makes any money.
-
I think a lot of people are missing the point on this one! This is not a story of a dealer selling Hot Springs spas and tooting their own horn. The story as I see it, is of a dealer who obviously has some religious beliefs giving up their Sunday to go in to the store to accommodate a potential customer. Whether or not that dealer sells Hot Springs in irrelevant. Its just a story of a small business owner truly understanding customer service :) Good for you Chas, if it happens again I hope you sell 4 tubs.

Where did Chas mention religion? He mentions he gave up his nap. Where did all this Sunday = must be a religious thing come up? The story is: Chas is happy he sold 2 tubs on a day off. Nothing about the baby Jebus, or how Hotsprings cures male pattern baldness and thermal pane tubs make your wiener fall off. No bashing. No Religions. No tooting the hotsprings is the best...Just a happy guy and some people are upset at him because of it.
Nothing like a good ol Hotsprings thread to start the week off right.
-
I think its great he sold 2 spa's on Sunday and don't think religion should be brought into this. The fact he sells Hot springs I would guess has nothing to do with it either.
Hes just happy he sold 2 spa's on Sunday a day he is normally closed.
To add to this, I was off on Saturday which is a first in many months I had a wet test scheduled at 9 am on said day off. I ended up talking with several different people that I met at the home show the previous weekend till 1 pm.
The sad thing is I didnt sell anything :'( But the people I talked to and the wet test people are going to buy a spa from me, :) most need site visits and deck plans before buying.
I think every dealer here would go the extra mile for the customer regaurdless of the brand they sell. I don't care who sells what here, it really comes down to the customer and what they like, my biggest competitors are a HS dealer and a Sundance dealer, I loose sales to them and they loose sales to me, it really comes down to what the customer likes the best, hell they might not even care so much about the spa because between the 3 they are all nice, but it may come down more to who they like the best doing the selling.

Drewstar,
Where did that come from?
I may have been wrong to assume that Chas' involvement in his church and community is why he chooses to stay closed on Sunday. However I did not "bash" Hot Springs, religion or male pattern baldness. I offered my congratulations to Chas and complimented him on great customer service..........sheeesh

Speaking of dishwashers, I just found out my was recalled due to a potential fire hazzard. It's a Maytag, and Jenn Air units are also part of the recall. Found out about it quite by accident- reading yesterday's sunday supplement in the local paper.
So if you have a Maytag or Jenn Air that was made between 1999 and 2004 (IIRC), you should check to see if you are impacted.
I believe that several million units were recalled.
GRRRRR...............................
-
Speaking of Jenn Air ...a guy told me this weekend that Jenn Air outdoor grills you see at Lowes are now a Lowes brand.....that Jenn Air sold the name for outdoor grills to Lowes.
-
Speaking of Lowes, I was in there the other day and purchased 2 new outside lights that were on sale for 50% off.
-
Speaking of 2 - that's how many spas I sold on Sunday, which is what started this three-page thread !
;D ;D ;D

PS - Bill, you are a wonderful moderator and a general joy to have around.
Don't give up or I'll tell your daughter to go over and choke your cat.

I believe it was me who asked the question. It wasn't an attempt to bring RELIGION (scary word) ::) into it, but rather ask an honest question. Some don't work Sunday's for religious reasons while others just take it as a day off. No biggie so don't everyone go gett'n their panties in a bunch...
I can live without the answer too... :)

There is nothing wrong with the moderating that's for sure, the bald redneck Hotspring dealers.....well......there's really only one and she is harmless.
Wait till spring it's only a few weeks away and everyone will be singing and chanting again, dancing, hugging and kissing.....tralalalalala.....more prozac pls.

So do I and in the spa industry pretty much every independent dealer is an underdog, regardless of the brand. People like Chas and Stuart are successful more for who they are than what they sell, in other words, they are the underdogs who have persevered.

There certainly are a lot of Hot Springs dealers here, but it could be a lot worse. I'm not a Hot Springs fan - as a hopefully soon-to-be second time Sundance owner, I guess it's like my Pepsi to their Coke, so I'll admit I don't really want to read much about Hot Springs. However, considering the number of dealers and HS owners, I think things are pretty civil. Compare how much damage one obnoxious guy in Colorado can do. Or, all the riotous fun going on with Costco tubs over at that other forum. At least the dealers here are civil, polite, and helpful.

True to some extent, but in taking a quick look over the last 5 pages, I also saw unsolicited "pitches" from a Jacuzzi dealer, an Arctic dealer, and 2 Marquis dealers as well. It's not just those varmint HotSpring dealers, although it probably seems like it due to the sheer volume of spas they do sell.

I'm not a fan of Hot Springs and everyone here knows it, yet I think they somewhat respect me and my opinion. I think you have it wrong if you think this board or Hot Springs owners or dealers in a proffesional manner view opposing opinions as anything more than a persons right to like or dislike a particular manufacturers product.

The post was directed at the responders of Chas post. Chas has IMO one of if not the best integrity and Humbleness exhibited on the web site. I had no problem at all with His post. I don't believe anyone was taking a shot at Him personally but at the usual attack dog mentality of anyone that dares to take a swipe at H.S. As far as the medicine goes down I think IMO it is easier to attract flies with honey than vinegar. Sometimes it is easier to let a comment go off into the night without responding and setting off a firestorm.

Well, I was going to be open yesterday - there was a home show down at the fairgrounds.
But I just wasn't up to it - bit of a cold and zero sleep Saturday night. Plus it was a long Sunday morning - back-to-back services, played from about 8AM till almost 1PM with only one short break. So I went home and crashed.
But I sold two today, Monday. Very unusual for a Monday, I usually just answer the phone all day. I sold a Vista and a Grandee.
So - you just never know!!
Got 'em on order, trying to get them this Thursday or Friday.
