Or as some may say, what the folks NOT going to the Fair in TX are missing...!
~~~~~FRIED TWINKIE RECIPE~~~~ ;D ;D ;D
Ingredients·
. 6 Twinkies
· 6 Popsicle sticks
· 4 cups vegetable oil
· Flour for dusting
· 1 cup milk
· 2 tablespoons vinegar
· 1 Tablespoon oil
· 1 cup flour
· 1 teaspoon baking powder
· 1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions
1. Chill or freeze Twinkies for several hours or overnight.
2. Heat 4 cups vegetable oil in deep fryer to about 375 degrees.
3. Mix together milk, vinegar and oil.
4. In another bowl, blend flour, baking powder and salt.
5. Whisk wet ingredients into dry and continue mixing until smooth. Refrigerate while oil heats.
6. Push stick into Twinkie lengthwise, leaving about 2 inches to use as a handle, dust with flour and dip into the batter. Rotate Twinkie until batter covers entire cake.
7. Place carefully in hot oil. The Twinkie will float, so hold it under with a utensil to ensure even browning. It should turn golden in 3 to 4 minutes. Depending on the size of your deep fryer, you might be able to fry only one at a time, two at the most.
8. Remove Twinkie to paper towel and let drain. Remove stick and allow Twinkie to sit for about 5 minutes before serving.
Makes 6.
Variation: For best results, dust Twinkies with powered sugar and chocolate sprinkles.
I heard that due to the extrememe chemical content of twinkies, when you subject them to the heat of a deep fryer, they become radio-active.
You should probably be sitting in the cardiac care unit of your local hospital when you eat these. ;)
I always thought that twinkies were more like nuclear warfare food due to the fact they have no shelf life expiration date and all. Yep, twinkies and cockroaches the only things that will survive a nuclear war ;D
Okay, so here's some Twinkie trivia. Did you know that Twinkies were originally filled with Banana Cream? They changed it during World War II when Bananas were not in large supply.
Of course I knew that. What do you think the History Channel and Food Network are for (I forget which one had that on there)?
LOL... ;D ;D ;D...I only made the one batch (for a back yard dessert w/Bar.B.Que get together)...No one here in my area; Nashville, ever heard of "Fried Twinkies" So, we had an informal get together to try them out...DAMN, they were a hit for ALL ages.
We ate good...Grilled Cajun shrimp, Tia chicken sticks, Tiger sauced pork loin medallions, hot dogs for the kids, burgers for the traditional BarBQue folks, and tons of tasty side dishes to pass around.
It was fun and it all had to do with those darn "Fried Twinkies". ....They really are way toooooooo sweet for my taste....It made for an interesting neighborhood event....
I'm now a real favorite of the local kids in the neighborhood....Hey maybe I won't get egged for Halloween....
Who'd have thunk it??? DUH, that a gross thing like a Twinkie could bring a group of people together????!!!!!
LORDEE DAY!!!! They want to make this a yearly event....HELP! :D
