Title: A New Hydrotherapy Technician
Post by: East_TX_Spa on January 26, 2007, 11:00:37 am
The East Texas Boat and RV Show starts today.  One of my customers recommended a young woman to work as my hydrotherapy technician this year as Hannah is away at college.  I talked to her on the phone yesterday and all I know is that she is 23 years old and only owns bikinis (I told her she didn't have to wear a bikini, she said that's all she has).

Anyway, I got a new roll of digital film in the camera, so maybe she'll let me take some pictures.

Wish me luck!

OK, I'm going to try something new:

I had to come back to the store to activate the free wireless internet service at the convention center.  I'm running next door and buy a digicam and try to set it up at our booth so ya'll can watch streaming video of the excitement that is the boat and RV Show.

Galen, (or anyone else that knows how) please post in this thread what I have to do to set up the video so all of ya'll can watch.  Thanks and I gotta go!!!!

OK - I asked my son. He knows everything.

He said a bunch of stuff that I didn't understand.

Then he said this: The only way that a bunch of people can watch a video stream is to go to a video streaming website, and you have to feed your web cam to that site. He said that trying to do video streaming on your own site, or your own network might only support a couple or three folks watching at the same time.

Otherwise, you can buy a (cheaper) cam which comes with software that will upload a new picture every so often. Just aim it at the appropriate target, and let it do it's thing. Hmm... won't expand on that.

The software does it all for you, and you can set it to snap a new pic and update the web site every couple of minutes, every thirty seconds, whatever your internet connection will support. That way tons of people can enjoy the show at the same time, though not with moving pictures.

Might be fun.

I'm going to watch and see how this works out, I would like to try to do this for our next parking lot sale. I don't usually hire talent to soak, but I would like to have shots of the piles of spas getting smaller, or the "Sold" signs being stuck onto spas...

Alright, I am live at the boat show.  I bought a Logitec QuickCam Orbit MP....it evidently is a robotic camera that follows you around.  Freaky.  I'll try to hook it up and holler back if it works.  Thanks for the info, ya'll! :)

Won't her skin become all wrinkly and dried out from excessive time spent in the hot tub demonstrating those big jets and comfortable loungers.  Chemicals can be harsh on a young complexion too.  You need a hydrating-lotion technician.  It is almost a medical necessaity-thus a tax write off.  What time should I report to work on my first day....mom is going to so proud of me......

Settle down, Buffalo Bill (or should I call you Jame Gumm). ;)

It rubs the lotion on it's skin or else it gets the hose again.

 ;D

Alright, camera is up and running and is COOL!  It is like a little peeping Tom following your every move.

How do I link it up to the web?

Can't you just login to yahoo messenger and turn on the web cam? Then post your yahoo messenger id on the forum and people with yahoo messenger can add you as a buddy and then ask to view your webcam.

I tried to do that....the wireless network says that "access is denied due to questionable content".  I guess it's filtered for the folks that work here. >:(

Makes me all the more happy that I work in a wild and free office.

I talked to Galen on the phone.  He says he has a video server.  He is doing some checking to try and come up with something.

Thanks for all ya'lls help.  I do appreciat e it.

Term, if you remember what I told you, don't jump out of the plane without checking to see if you have your parachute on. Chas was right, or his son was. To be live with streaming video, you need a lot of bandwidth. The best you can do is take a snapshot every so often and upload to a host site. Or post each picture to the forum one by one. But you need a host to do that also. A one channel video server with a broadband connection is the best way to go but your talking hundreds of dollars. And needs to be cofigured. Sorry that you can't plug and play, but what you want to do will be a reality some day. But not just yet.

Term,
You can install the Windows Media Encoder 9 Series (WME9S) and stream up to 5 streams at a time (without paying anything).  Bandwidth shouldn't be a problem (even over wireless) as long as you don't use a profile that requires too much bandwidth.

The only problem that I forsee is if you don't have a static IP address OR if you IP address is blocked from folks outside of this small network by a firewall.  If the wireless network is open (ie. firewall is left wide open), then folks should be able to connect to your live stream (you may have to open a port on your firewall in Windows as ell - check the FAQ or help for details).

The link to install WME9S is: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx

A default option is to record a few video clips and upload to Photobucket, Youtube or Google video.  It'd still be neat to see a few 2-3 minute clips, even if they're not live.

In the meantime, enjoy these two sites. One is a camera atop the Holiday Inn above the beach where I live. If all you see is black - then it is night. In that case, click to the left or right and the camera will pan around so you can see the city lights. It's right next to the county fairgrounds, so you can see the midway when the fair is running. During the day you can watch people surf, walk along the beach and the prominade, and even swim in the pool. Pan right several times and then look down to see the pool. Nice break from the snow and ice.

The other is a cam site up in Pine Mountain, where we hope to build a vacation home. If and when the economy gets fired up again. If you get to this site at night, go look at the movies, pieced together from the day's pics.

Chas

I just looked at the pier at Ventura county (11:04 ET).  You appear to be having a horrid day.  Either there are some strange looking birds flying in the picture, a bird had deficated on the camera lens or a spider is making a web on it.  :-/

I'll get up there and clean it off as soon as I can.

 ;)

Actually, it IS a rainy, crummy day at the beach today. Ironic that I am always braggin up the great weather we enjoy, and the fist time you get a chance to see it we have a grey messy day.  :-[

Means it will be slow in the store, usually.

I've tried ya'lls different suggestions and had no success.  Oh well, I did get some video.  Ya'll might try looking at http://www.kltv.com in their video section.  They did a couple of live remotes with Paula the hydroterapy tech last night.  They will probably post them today.

I used to use homewatcher.  That is how I caught the thieves in my house while I was at work.

It is motion sensitive and will create a webpage for you.  You just need to give it the ftp information and that is about it. It is free and can be downloaded from http://www.brothersoft.com/dvd_video/cam_tools/homewatcher_6368.html

I assure you, California is NOTHING like Florida.

Nothing.

You didn't hear the Beach Boys sing, "I wish they all could be Floridian girls," now did you?

I found the boat show footage on the TV link.  Lot's of stuff about bass boats and RV's but no references to any hot tubs at the show...One thing I did notice was another story fron only about 10 miles from my house (UFO in North Carolina).  Now, I want you all to know that the footage is NOT TYPICAL of the area.  The fact that a few people saw a meteor and reported it as a UFO is probably more of a result of heavy drinking (listen to the guy in the second call).  I have NO idea of where the TV station got the guy from MUFON, nor why he didn't simply say "It sounds like a meteor to me, jane..." but I am pretty certain he must've been a local Texas Mufon guy because the Nuclear power plant is about 20 miles away from where "it sounds like" the sightings were reported and no,  UFO reports around here are NOT common at all.  I used to live about 3 miles from the plant growing up.

I have seen UFO's a lot.

Cleaned the winshield on the Cessna, and most of them went away.
