Title: Alkalinity
Post by: usnrret on January 27, 2007, 10:33:37 am
My taylor test kit says my alkalinity should be between 80 and 120 but my Hot Spring owners manual says keep it between 125 and 150.  Which is right?

I would believe the Taylor over the HS...BUT...if your TA falls in range of either, I wouldn't worry about it...concentrate on pH over TA.

HS is right. 125-150 tends to buffer ph better in hot water.

If I keep my TA at 100 or above, my pH will consistantly rise.  My water works best when TA is at 80 which is how it comes from the tap.  At that level, my pH falls slightly and needs adjusting maybe once per month.
