Purchased a 2007 Maxxus last week. Won't be in for about a month, but I have to get the pad poured and the electrical run anyway. Asked the dealer about chems (bromine vs chlorine, etc.) and he said that the filters in the 800 series only need to be changed about once a year and that you don't have to clean them once a month, etc. He also said that they recommend a dichlor shock once a week and that's it, the ozone does the rest. There is a mineral cartridge similar to the SpaFrog. No teaspoon of dichlor after use and such. Both these ideas are totally opposite from what I did with my former Marquis. Anyone wish to comment?

Congrats on your spa!!
While I like the sundance filter I bet you will find you change it twice a year maybe even 3 times per. The nice thing is no you dont have to clean it because as far as I know you cant clean it. Its disposable, I have heard in some cases of the filter collapsing from the pressure of the circ pump pulling thru it because it has plugged up with oils and other such nasties in your water. Not a big deal if you watch it and replace when needed.
As far as the chems its the same in most spas chlorine after use or couple times a week, use really dictates what works for you. Shock every other week or so, I dont think with any filter/ozone system you can use it and forget it you can come close, but I think most will agree it all depends on number of people and amount of use your spa will see.

I think he's wistling Dixie, myself. Sounds like sales hype to me. I don't think too many are getting a year out of the disposable filter...six months is probably more realistic. A dichlor shock once per week along with a mineral cartridge and ozone will not keep that spa sanitized in my experience. A better way is dichlor after use with MPS shock as needed along with the mineral cartridge and ozone.

I have a 2005 Sundance Cameo and love the filter - no cleaning, ever!!!! My first filter did last one year - it will be nice if that's the case every year!!!
As far as dichlor - I use 1-2 tsp after each use, which is mostly every day. If I skip a couple of days I'll throw in 1-2 tsp just to keep it sanitized. I shock maybe once a month with dichlor - if it needs it.
Congratulations on your new tub!!!

reminds me of one of those home improvement house flipping shows I saw this weekend. The owner, (who I felt was a real bag with a nozzle at the end of it.) was showing off his swim spa...the type with the large pumps that create a strong current to swim upstream, told the host "Oh yea, this has a new filtration system in it. I don't have to ever add chemicals, and only clean the filter once a year. This water is cleaner than your drinking water!"
He then dips his head in the water and takes a gulp.
Waiting to see him on next week on the medical channel "Strange disentary disorders" :)

Thanks to Tony and JJ. Pretty much what I thought/experienced with my last tub on the chems. The dealer might have said 6 months on the filter life, don't really remember. Beats the heck outta cleaning them once a month. Never could get all the cleaner off of them, no matter what I did or how long I soaked, hosed, etc. them.

I've got 2005 Sundance Cameo and my filter lasted about 9 months before it started to collapse.
-
Collapse? That doesn't sound so good...............
-
True, it doesn't sound good but that is what it does. The sides start sinking in so to me that is called a collapse.

Don't get me wrong... I think the five micron filter is pretty good...and if you don't like it you can always change to a standard pleated filter. I just think that some sales persons just hype up the no maintenance thing. When it comes to sanitation, you just want to be safe.

What's the cost of the filter?
-
TX, I have a Maxxus, and love it. Its almost care free. The first month I was out there micro managing the water. And all I was doing was screwing it up. The tub will take care of its self. I ALWAYS add one tablespoon after each soak. I have the ozone and thats it, period. My filter is still going strong after 11 months. This last summer I took it off and took the 5/8 garden hose and flushed the pleats. I saw Some brown water but not much. So little that I haven't done it again. I clean the spa with a spa vac and keep organic crap out. So one year for a filter is realistic. Enjoy your tub, I do. ;)Spiderman: about 90.00

Galen, are you saying that you don't shock the spa?

Sales hype!!! Except the owners telling you exactly "the hype"

What's the cost of the filter?
Somewhere in the neighborhood of $80 - $90.
