That is so cool! I assume you're the corner house? My town here in Iowa is so small, google doesn't get close-ups at all.

The corner house is a dual apartment with driveways on the west and north. I'm the next house to the east on the south side of the court. The tub is at the end of the sidewalk behind the house on the right as your looking north.

Where in Iowa? I have family south of Des Moines.

Check this site out if you haven't yet:
http://www.zillow.com/

Not only will it show your house but the value of yours and everyone else around you.

Wow, I am impressed with the resolution.  I use the aireal feature on Mapquest and cannot get that close. I tried to install Google Earth, but the servers here don't like thier servers.   :P

In reference to your idiot neighbor with the porch light....I  know how you feel.  Our idiot neighbors just have to leave their outside lights on; for what reason I don't know.  I had to move our kids Little Tykes playhouse in line with one of the lights to block it out.  If this continues I'm either going to dig out my old BB gun  :o  or build another privacy screen.  I've also thought about installing some flood lights and pointing them directly at the neighbor's house  ;D

The aerial photos on Google of my neighborhood look to be a few years old. (alas no hot tub..or deck it's sitting on for that matter).  I wonder how often they update those bad boys....

google earth is cool, but I can't zoom in for squat on our neighborhood...anything closer than half a mile or so, and it's all fuzzy like a christmas drunk.
Our lovely neighbor (nicknamed "the queen" by some), decks her house out for EVERY holiday, plus has one of those annoying front yard carriage lights.....it keeps our tub decently lit at night, and my son complains that it shines in his window at night (he's got a loft bed, I don't think it's an issue for him)...it does, however, shine in MY bedroom window....I'd love to have it removed....or have her put it on a timer, since she's got lights on by her front porch, as well....I need to inform her that night time is SUPPOSED to be dark!! Sheesh. ::) >:(

this is cool
but almost an invasion on privacy

it's only an invasion if you can see what they're doing in the tub...  ;) guess that's why there aren't any night photos.....although, THAT would be slick....tubs and pools lit up....

About those pesky lights your neighbor has...

maybe,  Santa should have brought you a Red Rider BB gun!

Or, maybe not..."YOU'LL SHOOT YOUR EYE OUT"!!!!!

I thought about it, but it would be too obvious where it came from.  This time of year we don't see our neighbors outside much. When I do, I'll ask him why he suddenly feels he has to leave it on all night.

I would definitely do that, but only after I spoke with them to give them a chance to take care of it. My advice (if I were asked  ;)) would be to avoid the passive aggressive approach and give communication a try.

spatech, you wouldn't advise, then, something like launching dog turds at the offending light until it's coated (at 3am, of course), or....filling the space between storm door and main with leaves and grass clippings, then ringing the doorbell.....or calling the power company and imitating your neighbor, telling them (the power co) that they can KYA if they think you're going to pay their stinkin' bill, go ahead and CUT YOUR POWER! ?
So saying something to said neighbor is a better approach? Damn.  >:(

I've been waiting on catching him outside since we have been having warmer than normal weather. They tend not to answer their doors and if they have a phone, I don't know about it.  Last month they left the lights on in their car and I tried knocking on the door to tell them, but they wouldn't answer.

Which house is  yours, the one with the driveway left of the house or the right?  Looks like the picture was taken with the sun low in the sky so the back yard is in shadows.  It looks like both may have a tub.

Driveway's on the left. The backyard is the north side of the house, so it's always shaded. The grass is half moss, and a row of ferns started growing along the edge of the deck. I have no idea where they came from.

The view's not bad, though it was a lot better 10 years ago when the eucalyptus tree down the street was 100' shorter.

I'd simply tape a note to their door. I would not want to get to the point where I did something and they came over and said "why didn't you try to talk to me first". If they still ignored a note on their door then I'd take the gloves off grab a BB gun.

Crapmonkey!  Mine's only 10,000,000 candlepower...time to upgrade.

I got my boss one for his 50th birthday.  He snuck outside, tapped on the bedroom window, and when his wife looked out he shined it in her eyes.  It burned her retinas out and she is now in a coma, so be careful!

Problem solved. I know he is nosy and I had just installed a new garage door opener. When I knew he was in the kitchen I put the door up. He looked out, I waved, he opened the door to say Hi.  I then had the chance to ask about the light.  Its off now and we had our first dark soak tonight.
