I am one of the many that just sits back and reads what[ch8217]s going on in the spa/hot tub world. I don't have much to contribute yet because I have not purchased my spa and have no actual experience. As I read many of the topics I began to see personalities come out. Most everyone seems cool, there is a "strange" feeling of community (when I say "strange", i mean I actually look forward to hearing from of our more eccentric posters, I mean seriously, I find it strange that I look forward to reading strangers opinions and comments). Now for the questions, do some of the more experienced posters know each other outside of this forum, either knowing each other before the forum or becoming acquainted after conversing in this forum? Have you been in the industry so long that you just no each other? Or am I the weird one here and no one else sees it this way? :o :o

This is an interesting post!
I would assume that most of the people don't know each other personal.
A little while back some of us here posted pictures in the forum in order to have a face with a name associated.
But for me this is what makes a forum great. Different peoples have different opinions.
And they chime in from all over the country.

This is a good example:
I know that Hot Tub Frank just got back from a vacation at the happiest place on earth, and had a good time.
I don't know what my family did last month...ok bad example, we just had christmas and everyone got together, but you get the point....just alittle strange.
ps
HTF- good to have you back

This feeling is very common in forums. They are addictive. The reason for this is that we share a common interest.
I am a moderator for a local car forum and I actually made a lot of friends there, some of whom I meet and talk to regularly outside the forum boundaries. This of course is a lot easier to do when the forum is local. It is much harder to meet people from other parts of the world.

I agree with you....it is interesting watching people's
personality come through the computer monitor.
I have not met anyone yet....but expect to meet
Terminator one day because we are both in Texas
and I enjoy going down to the piney woods of East Texas...
Term seems like a very knowledgeable/helpful guy.
So I am going to stop in and say "howdy" sometime....
(although I hope he doesn't shoot me!....LOL)
There are others I'd like to meet like Drew, Pathfinder,
Bama, wmccall, Bonnibelle, mcmishka, spaman, and others.....
maybe one day we could all hook up at like a Vegas Hot Tub convention.

that would be cool ZEP

I completely agree. It is like a little community, and 1/2 of why I come here is just to see what y'all are up to and read the BS section. We all have this (tubbin') as a common interest, but in "real life" I think most people here are very different from one and other, and our paths would not cross. (Even ignoring geography)

I used to frequent a Jan 2000 baby board and we actually had reunions in 01, 02, 03, and 04 throughout the country so that people could meet up. When we moved from OR to CA in 02 it turned out we moved within 30 minutes of 2 of the members and one of them today is my best friend.
As for this board, I think a lot of the dealers have met at conventions/training seminars, etc.

I always considered this forum to be an INVALUABLE source of information for my purposes: to sell more hot tubs. Along the way, I have evolved into the class clown of sorts. That is me...no phoney baloney pretending to be someone I am not. I am sure some of you think I'm a lonely fat bald guy who craves attention, but I simply enjoy interacting with ya'll and hopefully make you laugh every once in a while. Life is too goatsmelling short to be uptight and spiteful.
This "community" is full of intelligent, extremely knowledgeable people who bring a lot to the table. If you have a problem with your spa, someone on here will point you in the right direction. If you want an opinion regarding a spa you're interested in, there is an abundance of folks willing to offer theirs. I learn so much every day just by reading what ya'll post about your shopping experiences, likes, dislikes, and what is important to consumers.
So far, Shortspark is the only member I've met in person at my store. He was kind and gracious enough to visit and buy a spa from me. I've also met Guzz and Hottubdan at various HotSpring gatherings. I've talked to many of you on the phone and via private messages, and I truly look forward to meeting any and all of you should the chance present itself. I expect Zep to visit soon on his way to Lake Caddo and look forward to the day he does.
Anyways, thanks for all of your input, friendship, encouragement, and constructive criticism. And humor, ya'll are a riot at times! ;D
Your friend,
Chris O

Many of the forum professionals here do know each other from trade shows and the like. I have met only my local Sundance dealer from this forum. I've talked to one or two others on the phone.

I am on a couple of golf forums and have played with quite a few guys in the local area from Seattle to Bellingham and Canada. They are a really nice bunch of people and as here anything you want to know about golf and or the latest equipment can be found.
Of course my wife thinks you all here and AT my golf sties are a bunch of
CRAZY DERANGED AXE MURDERERS!!! ::)

I come here for the porn......though I've yet to see any. I remain ever hopeful, ever vigilant...
-
Jacuzzi Jim, what kind of forums are you going on where you meet up with guys and play with them.
Im confused!!! ;D

I have a desire to help folks. I like spas. You see, I had a real bad back problem for years and my tub was my salvation. Now that I have gotten into better shape the back problems are gone, and my tub is a place to go warm up and start the day with a quiet time.
If I can help others find that joy, peace and relaxation in their life, while feeding hungry children (mine), so be it.
I would like to thank my parents for making all of this possible,
and my kids for making it necessary.
8-)

They dang sure are not spa forums.
Least on a golf course I can run away, you can hide an axe anywhere in a spa.
