...price no object. What spa would you get - and would it be different than the one you currently own?
Jacuzzi 480/470
Sundance Maxxus/Optima
Hotspring Vista/Grandee
Dimension One Serena/Lotus Bay
Something else?
-
HS or Jacuzzi. Never tested the D1 so no opinion, did not like the Sundance.
-
You know my reply for me I would take the J-470 I really wouldnt need the J- 480
Second choice would be the Sundance but not sure which model.
-
Vista or Grandee.....however the 400 Jacuzzi would be interesting.....all depending on cost too. I wouldn't buy the Jacuzzi if it was any more than the HS..
Currently own Tiger River Bengal....(HS Sister product)
-
Nespa
-
If price was no object ...
D1 bay series, Artesian Piper Glen and the Master Spas looked great. I didn't get a chance to see a Marquis or the Jacuzzi 400 series, maybe they would be on the list too.
Unfortunately, price was a object and I bought an Artesian Cayman.
-
Maxxus, We have one and love it!
-
.....all depending on cost too. )
Request was cost no object. ;)
-
I've always been curious about the top of the line Master Spas LSX-something or other with that wicked wrap-around massage seat...
-
At this point, I would buy the 2007 Jacuzzi 480/470. The new model will be awesome with the lighted cup holders and IPod .
Neo
-
either stay with what I got or go with the CalSpas S709
and any spa I picked...if money was no object...would be in-ground

You're obviously going to get a variety of answers that show that there are people happy with all the options you've mentioned (as well as a few you didn't list). This is not a surprise since you've listed some of the top premium spas on the market.
With $ no object and assuming that none of the dealers disqualify themselves (you do want to feel comfrortable that they'll be there after the sale), I'd wet test them (at least one of teh two for each brand). That should narrow it down further by giving you an idea of how the jets and seats feel. If there is still a tie then go with whichever your gut tells you.

Wahtever you do, do NOT buy a MasterSpa. The Management there is simply out to get every penny they can out of the consumer (even if their product is not really WORTH it). They try gimicks that often fail the first time. Most of the MS dealers I've spoken too slam the competition openly. The owner of Master personally told me... "I could sell it cheaper but why should I, don't you want to get as much cash as possible from those who have the means to spend it freely". In short, the attitude @ Master SUCKS from the top it all flows down. BTW - I am not a dealer. I am an individual and this is my personaly opinion based on personal experiences. Take it for what it's worth.
I am a Jacuzzi 370 owner and think the newer 400-series 475 would be nice bt would also consider the Dimension One.
-
While I agree with the good Doctor that Nespa can create a wonderful custom design - and their brochure photos are top notch:
I would have to choose a new (HotSpring) Aria,
overlooking a beach on Maui.
With a helipad.
And a jet waiting at the airport on Oahu in case I ever want to hop over to the mainland.
-
And a faster computer.
-
You know I am not going to say what spa on your list but I have a friend who is a dealer and has both the ______ and the Marquis Epic on his floor, both in his soak room and he has told me hands down the Epic smokes the other for therapy and that of those who wet test all have bought the Epic over the other. Those who bought based on eye appeal have bought the other but not those who wet tested.
-
Price was an object and we still bought a Maxxus. LOVE IT!!!!
-
I got what I wanted, a Maxxus. But I also wanted dealer support. There maybe tubs out there that are as nice but I wouldn't have the support. I think my tub has every option, and I'm very happy with it. I may build a tub house around it next year, that has a roll away roof. Got to look at the stars. I do hate the strong wind. Seems back earlier this year we were posting our tub and the settings they were in. I really liked the hotub room that had a wood stove and tiled floor. I don't care who you are, that was nice. 8-)
-
I am with Chas on the Maui idea.

When money is not the issue of concern, the maker, Dimension One (the BMW of the industry, known for quality, fit and finish on the inside) the model the Sarena Bay with dual sequencers, a stary night, and ... well ... that's enough, it answers the question.
-
Marquis Epic would be right up there for me.
-
I would go with one of docs wood tubs if I had the right location. Here's a picture from Sycamore Mineral Springs near San Luis Obispo CA. I worked there during college and soaked in one these wood tubs almost daily. The Natural sulfur based mineral water comes out of the ground at 108°. Now that's heaven.

Guess as money is no option i might take a Cal Spas GX49(http://www.calspas.com/hot_tubs/images/exclusive/42plasma.jpg)
No idea about therapy quality, but one heck of a view. I love long soaks, so wouldn't mind watching a movie on a 42" plasma @ the same time

Just curious, who says D1 is "known" as the BMW of the industry? I've been around a long time and never heard this. Do they price like BMW? Yes. Are they good quality? Yes, no doubt.
But to put them alone as the BMW...I'd have to add a couple more, at least, who compete with D1 in all these categories.
So, as to the original question...the thing is, money does not always equate to quality in this industry. Some of the smaller, lower quality spa manufacturers may be as expensive as some of the larger, premium manufacturers. The bigger guys buy better so they can price better. So don't just look at how much a spa costs if money is not an object. Check the manufacturer's reputation and the dealer's reputation.
I personally shy away from some of what are in my opinion, gimmicks on spas, IE, TVs that will break eventually because they are housed next to a hot, moist, infused with chemicals, area. To me, Tvs and spas don't mix. I have seen TVs, spa brand to remain anonymous, that were rusting on the edges and starting to fail. One guy I used to see sold one of these brands, he was always working on the TV. Leave that stuff for the home theatre.
And lastly, go by your own feelings, comfort levels in the spa and gut instincts. Listening to too many people can, and probably will, confuse you.
-
Vanguard -
agreed in regards to video, and in my opinion audio w/ regards to spas. warranty isn't long enuf to warrant the extra money. the reason i posted one w/ a 42" plasma, is because "money is no object".
I wouldn't care if it broke, cause i would just buy a new one every year.....
Boy i wish i could actually live that way(not really). I truely appreciate that which i can afford, because i busted my butt to earn it.
just participating in this fantacy post.

I'm sorry but all I see there is money and a repair bill. That thing looks like it will be broke in a week.

But if "money is no object" it won't matter if it eventually breaks because you would just get another one or pay someone to fix it....

You know, nd, this thread originally had nothing to do with MS yet you have to post this crap. I've enjoyed your posts here and at Doc's site for the last 3 years and now you have to go out of your way to propagate this kind of drivel. Leave it to say, my opinion of your opinions just bottomed out...but, then again, what do you care? Interesting how you think that one comment from one dealer makes you so experienced re: MS. Give it a rest and quit making yourself look so sour....Happy Freakin' Holidays.....
-

Are you agreeing that it's a repair bill in waiting? If so, why buy something over the top if there doesn't seem to be much confidence in it's quality? Save the TVs for the house, not the spa. People who are in a position where they can say "money is no object" usually got there by being good with money (unless they were born into it) so while they want to splurge they usually are careful not to throw good money after bad.

Back when I was young and pretty, and Ol' Meanness was still Young Sweetness, I started working at this hot tub store. I remember how excited I was to tell Young Sweetness "Jeepers whiz, won't it be so neato to sit in the hot tub and watch a movie on TV!!!! How super keen is that?!!!"
So, we made plans one evening to do just that. I had the champagne, chocolate dipped strawberries, and rented a Bruce Willis/ Michelle Pheiffer flick, and popped it in the TV I had set up beside the spa. After 30 minutes, I blurted out "This is the stupidest idea I've ever had! I'm burning up!"
While she disagreed about it being my stupidest idea to date, she wholeheartedly agreed that it was not the least bit enjoyable.
I truly believe televisions in spas are one of the dumbest trends I've seen.

Yea, I get that too. When ever I annouce I've just done one of the dumbest things yet (oh like using the good silver to scoop out the cat box,), My lovely wife is quick to point out, that although it was dumb, it certainly is not the DUMBEST. A list of the top 10 usuallys follows. ;)

re:"I truly believe televisions in spas are one of the dumbest trends I've seen"
I would not want to watch TV most of the time while soaking,
but I must admit there have been several occasions where
some us are soaking and a game was on and we all thought
"how nice it would be to be able to watch the game while sipping
and soaking".
I do think the "TV made into the tub" is really kind of cheesy
and probably problem prone.
I have investigated having an outdoor flat screen mounted
outside like under my house awning.
The problem is the "outdoor tv" that is actually made to be outside
and take extreme heat and cold is very expensive when you consider
how much use it would get.
http://www.backyardstuff.com/Games%20&%20Fun/outdoor_tv.htm
http://www.backyardstuff.com/Games%20&%20Fun/sbtv-bb.wmv
So for now....no soaking, sipping, and watching the Cowboys
all at the same time!

I would buy another Grandee

There's a forum out there tht shows a lot of home made backyard theaters, some better than others:
http://backyardtheater.com/
Or if you have $10,000. The outdoor inflatbale home theater from frontgate is pretty cool. They also have an outdoor LCD panel for about $320.

Drewster - thanks for the link for backyardtheater! Totally cool. Now I have a use for my old projector. ;)

Take a look at the Niagara from Caldera. Excellant tub....yup, that's what I have :)

Jacuzzi and Sundance tried doing the built in tv couple years ago and bagged it,now they sell a tv from sunbright 21" for a retail price of 4 grand or so ::) It is suppose to be bomb proof but even at 3000 I dont think so that price is just to high. We have not sold any nor do I push em. but if the right person wanted one I would sell it.
Another thing to add if I had the bucks I would probably want one but the thing I think I would use it for is after a hard day of work go out and relax have a cold one and watch the depressing nightly news. ::)
-
now they sell a tv from sunbright 21" for a retail price of 4 grand or so
I plan on using a regular Sony LCD for well under $1K. It will remain in my sunroom next to my tub and I will simply open the window and watch it.
-
re: I will simply open the window and watch it.
Will that work for your family having a window
open in the dead of winter?
-
re: I will simply open the window and watch it.

If it's too cold to open the window I could simply watch the TV looking through the window. I'll post some pics when everything is completed.

re: After 30 minutes, I blurted out "This is the stupidest idea I've ever had!

Plus...why would watching TV make the hot tub any hotter?
Sounds like more of a hot tub temp problem than a TV problem.

I wouldn't want to sit in a hot tub watching a 2hr movie, or a 4 hour football game. a 20 -30 minute soak is usally tops for me. I like it quiet and relaxing. A TV shouldn't be the center of you entertainment. You should be. ;)

I once had thepleasure of saoking in the natural volcanic hot tubs in the jungles of Costa Rica. 106 was about as hot as I could take it.
I didn't care for the monkeys in the trees above us. But the natural springs are great. Much different than a gushing hot tub.
-
Drew....ok we just will agree to disagree
To me the TV is not the center of my entertainment
anymore than my drink would be....
The TV would be only "one piece of
the puzzle" of a relaxing time.
Because I would love to catch a half of the Cowboys
game while soaking in my tub sipping on an Irish Creme.

Jacuzzi 480/470
Sundance Maxxus/Optima
Hotspring Vista/Grandee
Dimension One Serena/Lotus Bay

I'm guessing that you are asking us this b/c you have narrowed your search down to these spas. If my assumption is correct, it doesn't really matter what we think. It only matters how each individual spa feels on you. All those manufacturers have great quality, so you really can't go wrong. To answer your question anyways, I'd go with the J-480.

Hell Bonibelle.....now I am heart-broken! :'(
What can I say.....lol......but thanks.
I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and went to Catholic Schools my whole life....
so of course I am a huge fan of both of the two MOST LOVED & MOST HATED teams in America.
The University of Notre Dame & The Dallas Cowboys!

Price WAS NOT an object and we chose a LA Spa Paradise H-2.
It is 8' x 11' and holds 650 gallons.
Lots of jets in all the trigger areas, including the tops of the shoulders, cervical, thorasic, and lumbar spine jets. In addition, it has 2 wonderful lounge seats with full body jets...upper back down all the way down and including the feet.\
The ergonimics of the seats are such that you are not "flushed" out of the seats.
We had narrowed our search to Sundance- Maxxus, LA Spa-Paradise H2, or just having one custom built. It was an easy decision once we wet tested the LA spa.
Good luck.

THE VERY BEST Hot Tub that any money can buy is the Hot Springs Jetsetter. In hot tubs, size is not important in terms of quality.
Why? Read the following:
THE VERY BEST Hot Tub value in the world, dollar for dollar, is the HS Jetsetter.
THE VERY BEST combination of workmanship and material is in the HS Jetsetter.
THE VERY BEST reputation by manufacturer/model is the Jetsetter.
THE VERY BEST tub per gallon to gallon of water ratio is the HS Jetsetter.
THE VERY BEST dealer network/warranty length and terms is with the Jetsetter.
THE VERY BEST efficiency in terms of energy use is the HS Jetsetter.
THE VERY BEST insulation in the hot tub world is found in the HS Jetsetter.
THE VERY BEST looking and appealing tub in the world is the Jetsetter.
THE VERY BEST lounger and seats are in the Jetsetter. Nothing is more relaxing.
THE VERY BEST jets AND DX Moto-Message are part of the HS Jetsetter.
THE VERY BEST shell EVER made for durability and looks is in the Jetsetter.
THE VERY BEST controls for ease of operation and accuracy are in the Jetsetter.
THE VERY BEST access to seats and lounger (in and out ease) is the HS Jetsetter.
Now, how do I know all this. Because Terminator told me so, that's why. So what was I to do? I HAD to buy one. Why don't you?

Agreed! Probably one of the neatest things I did in Costa Rica, next to zip lining through the rain forest at 40 mph ;) What a great place, unfortunately it will probably be run over with tourists by the time I get a chance to go back again.

If those were my only choices I would get the D-1. I have always thought that they built an excellent quality spa. They just dont have the martketing machine that others have.

If thats true, the jetsetter must be the only one he sells, to bad cause he has much larger ones also.
Just kidding of course. :)

From your short list, I would have a hard time deciding between the Jacuzzi, Sundance and HotSpring spas. I could toss a coin and be happy, though I think I would opt for an Optima again.
D1 would be off my list, only because I don't like the way they look.
-
I might look into a swim spa that also had therapy chairs. Or perhaps a swim spa and a separate therapy hot tub. And of course if money were no object it I would need a pool as well to complete the aqua therapy "suite". Probably would have to go with a custom manufacturer to make it all work well together. Might want to have an enclosure that had a retractable roof for the whole complex. And of course one would need an adequate home and grounds to complement the design. And if money were no object you would no doubt want a setting to justify the home so it might be a nice lodge in the mountains, perhaps on a ski slope. But not far away from a few nice golf courses for the summer.
Or perhaps you would want to have two different settings, one for winter and one for summer. The second could be on a lovely hillside overlooking the Pacific in Hawaii for example.
If money were no object...

Yup. The zip lines were a ball. I stayed Grand Papagayo Resort, in the NorthWest part of C.R. It was one of the best vacations I've ever taken. and I agree 100%, Go Now, soon the tourist trade will take over this place and it will never be the same. Right now, it's a great balance of accomodations/natural beauty for the vacationer. You can get around, stay at a stunning resort, but not feel like you are in torist trap.
every night I sat right here, with this view smoking my hand rolled cigars just for me, and an iced cold cervaza. paradise.
Oh and Zep I do not agree to disagree! ;) Actually I understand what you are saying. Just not for me.
Go Patriotis!!!!! The Cowboys? With that bum Parcels as a coach? He's a complete tool. You can have him! ;)
-
I can't believe this rancor!!! Are you guys on drugs???? What do you mean, size isn't important?
SIZE DOES MATTER!!!
The bigger the better! Large doesn't mean a lack of quality,
it means greater accomadation.
Why not have both, size and quality?
I always do. ;) ;) ;)

Interesting topic. I say just buy a spa. I have a Sundance Optima and LOVE it. One friend has a 15 plus year old Jacuzzi, no insulation etc. and he LOVES it. He did add insulation himself eventually. Another friend has a cheapo from Home Depot, and LOVES it too. The cheapo had one mechanical issue about two years in, somehting with the heater if I recall but easily fixed by himself - a handyman type. Buy a spa, jump in and smoke'em if ya got'em.
