Most people have an opinion on who builds the most reliable, economical, theraputic spa etc... What are your feelings on who makes the best looking spa? Based on looks alone! I know it may be subjective, but what the hell...
-
are we talking top on or off? ;) I think Anne's Arctic is a real looker....but I think her pics are enhanced. ::)

Well, some things you want to leave up to your imagination. This is not one of those things. Top off.
-
running or off? lights on or off?
-
Definetly Jacuzzi and no it's not just b/c I own one. If I would have bought a different spa from another manufacturer, I would still have the same opinion.
-

Lights on, jets off. I personally don't like fiberoptic lighting along the inside rim of the spa shell. Reminds me of the Gravitron at the fair. I don't want the fair in my back yard...Ok maybe a few midgets and a female sword swallower.
-
Marquis, not only exterior of the spa but also the interior mold of the shell that has gentle contours instead of a jagged more boxy look:

Markee, I like that lounger. It looks really comfortable. What model is that? Also, the seat in the middle on the bottom of the pic looks awfully low. :o I think you would need a life vest for that seat. ;)
-
A beautiful site indeed. :)

I am partial to cedar skirts, so I think arctic makes one of the best looking tubs on the market. That is just me, but once I saw arctic, I used that as the standard for my comparison.
Also, I would argue that the maxxus is a very good looking tub as well

There's no question..........

Like I said, I am a sucker for cedar!!!

Wow, that's incredible doc. Reminds me of Sycamore Mineral Springs in Avila Beach California.

The skirting and set up looks great, but wouldn't tubbing on those branches be a bit uncomfortable? ;) Is your water so clear that is an awesome reflection, is there a mirror somewhere, or is your skirt wearing crotchless panties?

It's the Epic, the most expensive and best selling tub that Marquis makes. I can soak in all of the seats without being under water and I'm 5'11".

Aw, how sweet! :) And no, no enhancement! 8-)
I like Dr. Spas! It reminds me of the tub my dad built when i was a kid........love the redwood.

Gomboman......
I really like the "polished chrome look" jet covers pictured in your post.
I have those on my CalSpas tub.
I think they add to tub aesthetics.

Dr. Spa,
I thought this thread was just plain silly, until you posted. Your spa is a work of art.
Thanks for sharing.

I've seen some great looking Cal spas.
-
I think the best looking spas are the custom ones that spill over into a built in pool that over looks the carribian, as my super model wife tests the ph levels. ;)
But as far as "standard portable manufactured tubs go" I have to agree that the wooden tubs on Dr Spa's site are the most visually appealing. Natural wood looks great.
After that, I go with just about any of the wooden cabinets. As long as they are kept up they look great. However, if the finish isn't right, or you let them go, I think they are the ugliest thing you can stick in your back yard.
As fars as shell's go. I think D1 has some very interesting shapes in the Bay Collection sereis.
I've also seen the shells in some stunning reds, and a nice green ( I believe by Great Lakes) that really catch my eye, but I wonder if a bright shell like that might wear thin on me after a few years and go the way of "Avocado Green" or "Harvest Gold"?
Unfortunately, going on "looks alone" wasn't a huge factor in my desion. I do think that just about any tub can look stunning with the correct install. I think the install can make all the difference in the world.

The idea is no panties at all ;)... The darkness of the wood, and the angle of view give a perfect reflection. Also, the the owner that sent me the pic is a professional photographer. Here's a couple more, non-professional;

The corragated steel skirting? :P
Doc, t would be great if the wooden tubs you have, offered better seating and more therapy, but I guess that's the difference between a tub and spa? No? I really like the cedar.

Of course I'm partial to Hot Spring and the chrome jet heads (eschucians, SP?) and sterling marble finish. What also impressed me with Hot Spring is the diverter valve knobs. They have a silver type coating and look very sharp, compared to the plain, cheap looking gray plastic on most spas.

That's stainless steel.

I heard Marquis makes a nice tub but I question the layout of the 2 corner seats (on the end at the foot of the lounger). Where do folks put their legs and feet. It seems that they have to cross over that center seat section. It just looks like an awkward setup to me. Pls explain to me Epic owners.

If you look at the two corner (cool off) seats they are angled so your feet go into the center footwell, not on top of anyone elses. In every Marquis there is a wide open footwell, you won't find any volcano foot domes or anything like that.
-
The cool down seats also make entry easy into the tub. That large footwell was a real sell point when we got our Epic. The tub is spacious and versitile. You can sit in the right cool down seat and put your feet into the bottom of the lounge for a great calf and foot massage or relax with your feet toward the center. The other cool down can face to the center of the tub or toward the deep therapy seat. I use that position to lean over and take advantage of a vigorous massage on my knee using the pillar between the two seats. the pillar itself is awesome. With the air jets on it can blow you across the tub. My hubby loves the intensity...although it is a bit too much for me so I turn the air down . The deep therapy seat (back left of the waterfall) is fantastic. I love it for back, shoulder and neck therapy as well as foot massage. Even the seat under the waterfall is nice. It is kind of deep but if the jets are on and you want a quiet spot, there it is! as far as the lounge...that too is wonderful (although I never get to use it when hubby is in the tub). It has calf, thigh and foot jets as well as back and neck jets. There is also the pillar across from the waterfall. That is less intense than the other pillar, but great because it also has neck jets.
Yep, I love my tub ;)

Come oooooooooon peoplllllllllle.... can you REALLY look at the Arctic line without drooling? JK... but I really do like my Cedar skirting. It just feels right with my home. After I return home from this cursed business trip I will snap a few photos.
And Anne, both you AND your spa look great. I would gather that is one thing the even the Full foam people can not argue about. :-)

Er, why thank you, and my spa thanks you as well. Though I cannot recall any particularily good photos of me here- just either pigeons crawling on me, or the B/F and I in Dr Seuss costumes.
-
Please tell me that you dont have a Dr. Seuss fetish, I dont think this thread can handle more circus clowns, lamas and now Dr. Seuss erotica.
-
actually anne, the picture of you dancing was really good. Also the one with you standing outside of a hotel at night, and the one in rome not so bad either. Hey wait a moment, are you fishing for compliments? whats your body fat %???
;)
-

The drool is more from the medication than about the tub, but sure, belive what you want. ::)
-
I only remembered posting the halloween "Thing one and thing 2" photos, and the one in St. Marks square. I forgot about the dancing one and the rome one. I admit, those are a bit more complimentary, I just dont consider myself that photogenic. No Dr. Seuss fetish, but I do love his work.......and I was originally only willing to post a pic in costume.
-
how about a nurses costume :o :o :o
-
hehehe, no problem! But I wont be posting a photo of that online!!! ;D
-
Sounds like anne is a hottie. ;) Someone needs to repost the pics from Rome, dancing, restaurant, nurse...
-
You guys are sweet :-*, but I'd suggest sticking with the POD for eye candy. ::)

My tub doesn't have polished chrome jets or any exotic shell color, but I think it looks pretty good. If I had to do it over again I'd go for a pearl shell and a darker exterior. Anyway, here's a few pics...

Does anyone else use that type of cover lifter?
-
that is nice, it takes the weight off of the sides of the tub which is really good in my opinion. I will have to look for that.
Your tub looks amazing, you did a really nice job.
-
Is that lifter bolted/screwed into the concrete?
-
it looks that way to me anne. I think it is a really good idea.
-
Thanks, and yes it is bolted into concrete. They're called lay-ins, just drill a 3/8' hole in the masonary, drop them in, secure with a hit tool, and then its a simple 1/4-20 bolt and washer. I was wondering if anyone else here uses this type of cover lifter?
-
I had the exact same lifter on my old tub. It worked really well but after about 3 years the seams on the middle of the cover started to come apart. If I kept the tub I was planning to build a cover step for it to rest on and take the weight off of the seams.

They make a dealy called a cover saver that hooks to the bottom of the cover (while it's folded) and wraps arond the bar to help save the seam.
-
Wish I would have known that 3 years ago. Then again I have a new cover coming for a HS Grandee. Do they make them for different style lifters? Just checked doc's site and that would great for that lifter. If you have this kind I would recommend getting one. If they only made one for a lifter that attaches on the side.
