Title: Hey y'all
Post by: Wisoki on November 19, 2006, 11:24:20 am
Unbelievable what a difference a market makes! I haven't checked in or responded much because I am unbelievably busy! I love Indiana, and miss it there (it's so damn brown here). I cannot deny the fiscal difference though. The folks out here want hot tubs, they want inteligent sales people and when they see a product they like, they buy it. None of this, I gotta go measure, I gotta think on it overnight, I gotta whatever! The only problem I see so far, the owner INSISTS on being open on Sunday. So now I'm off to EARLY Mass, so I can make it in to work on time. Everbody have a great weekend.

Wisoki....wow glad you are pleased with your move!

In case some of us either don't know or can't remember
....where are you now?

As far as being open on sunday....don't ya think it
makes sense for an outdoor entertainment business
to be open on sunday?...(at least part of the year)

I know it is hard on dealers & employees to be at work
on sunday, but it always amazes me how many companies
in alot of different industries are open all week when 90%
of their customers/clients are at work, but then they
close when 90% of the custmers/clients are NOT at work
on weekends when they have free time and can get
things done.

I realize dealers/spa employees will resist and come up with
all kinds of reasons why they should be closed Sunday, but
I sometimes drop in American Backyard Superstore on Sunday
to look at grills, fountains, outdoor furniture, ect... and I always
notice alot of people looking at their Sundance Hot Tubs.

I did a survey once of all my sales over a 2 year period, to see which day I sold the most spas on. Sunday was #1, I almost sold at least one spa every Sunday. #2 was my day off!

Yeah, for those who work M-F.  What about those who have to work weekends?  I have to work every other weekend with days off during the week.  The weekends I do work are 12-hour days so I don't have time to do anything else, except work.  I'm not coming down on you, I'm just representing us SOB's that aren't lucky enough to work M-F.  Although with our 12-hours shifts, we have half the year off, so I can't complain too much  ::)

I dont see how any customer service/retail type business can do well and be closed on sundays. Seems to me that is just part of modern life. And I've done (and still do) my time putting in weekend hours, so I know it is a pain. The side benefit to working weekends is often having weekdays off, so you can get your business done when there are fewer crowds!

And for numerous reasons not the least of which, it's the Sabath. The rest of the "9-5ers" that CHERISH their weekend family time would begrudge others the same luxury, on ONE day of the week?! Hey, I get it if your not religous or faithfull, but I am, and I don't think God had his fingers crossed behind his back when he said to remember the Sabath and keep it holy.

However, I'm not complaining about the J-385, cover, e-z lifter, spa umbrella, Spa Pad, ozone package, two and a half hour presentation I sold today either!

Really? As a customer, weekend hours are a huge thing for me.  in fact I've switched my pool supply person just for this reason.   Puirchasing the Spa itself, well maybe, but for chems, supplies, and all the extras, the weekend hours are critical for me.

It's worked out well for my "new"  pool guy too, like many dealers, he sells a bunch of patio stuff as well, and my wife loves to go with me now, and "Shop"...cheeseboards, benches, wine racks, spice baskets....huh, maybe it aint such good idea he's open on sundays.   ;)

re: in fact I've switched my pool supply person just for this reason

Drewstar...I try to only use dentist, plumbers, electricians
and service people that offer flexible weekend hours and/or
evening hours.

Hey they are there when you need them not just when it's
convenient for them......so I feel like support them.....
so they continue to do well.

Just last week I had a clogged drain and found several plumbers
that came out during evening hours and they said it was the exact
same price day or night. Of course some were closed or acted like
it would be "the end of the world" to come out in the evening when
90% of working people are at home and able to meet a plumber to
let them in the house.

Hey 2EachHisOwn as far as deciding what hours/days to be open
but I know who I prefer to use!

Isn't FREE ENTERPRISE great!

I'm a Roman Catholic and yes we are suppose to remember the Sabath. But what's that got to do with non-Sabath beleivers keeping their businesses open on Sundays. If they do well on the weekends then why close.
By law they can't fire you because of your religious beliefs. So don't work if you don't want to.
On the contrary, My grandpa is a deacon and he works every Sunday after masses doing weddings. I just don't understand the whole thing. I would think that if your not supposed to work and spend time with family, that one day a week, how come it's alright for people to get married on Sundays. Thus causing him to work on the Sabath.

Sabath starts on Friday at  sundown.

Sunday is not the Sabbath.  It is  "the Lords day".

It was first put into practice by the Laodicean Council, to seperate the Christrians from Judaism.
The Roman emperor  Constince the Great, also declared  to rest on the Day of the Sun.

I love how a little history lesson puts things into perspective.

If one has a reasonable boss, and can afford to tweak his/her schedule, then nobody should have to work on a day he/she considers religiously important. But we're not a religious nation (though this sometimes seems debatable to me), so it should also be reasonable for retail to be open when the customers demand......which obviously includes sundays.

I've never heard it explained like that before. But then again I'm Catholic and how they explained it to me in school is all I know.
The Bible leads us to believe the seventh day of the week (Saturday) is the Sabbath according to the Old Testament. New Testament however gives the impression that it's Sunday.

I'm sure Term will apologize for the distress his comment has caused. He and I have had this conversation in a post probably a year ago now and I'll reitterate it here. If you absolutly have to buy a hot tub on Sunday, then I guess you will not be buying one from me. I certainly am not going to loose sleep, food or house over the loss of a couple of Sunday spa sales. With that in mind the owner of the company I now work for has requested that I work on Sundays. After discussing it with my Catholic spiritual advisor, I was guided to use this Sunday work time as a pennance. Great! 5 Our Fathers 10 Hail Marys AND work on Sunday  ;)

Where in the "new" testiment does it tell you this?
