Title: Why Are Ya'll Here?
Post by: East_TX_Spa on November 09, 2006, 11:55:55 am
I've always been curious as to why most of you fine folks frequent this forum.  I realize that many of you come here looking for information during the shopping process, some of you are here for help regarding water chemistry or repair problems, and some of you simply enjoy talking about spas.

The industry folks (like myself) are here to represent our products, keep up with current product news, and the main reason I'm here is to get customer feedback about their shopping experiences, their likes and dislikes in order to help me be a better salesperson.

I realize there are also trolls on the site...industry insiders and squat stirrers who like to pose as consumers but are really associated with certain spa entities.  How many of you are actually trolls?  Anyone care to fess up?

I'm not a troll, but I do lurk most of the time.  I have always been the quiet type (in classes, or whatever) that will stand back and listen to other peoples questions and the answers and learn from them.  Most of the time the questions that I have will be asked by someone else.

to be honest with you, I dont know why I come anymore.  I originally came to get info when I was looking.

Truthfully, I have two kids a three year old and a 3 month old.  I work crazy shifts and I find it difficult to get out of the house most days.  Being in the police department you become cynical and dont trust most of society so you tend to become an intravert.

SO  I GUESS ULTIMATELY, I AM TELLING YOU THAT I HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO.  IT HAS BECOME A PART OF MY DAY TO COME TO THIS SITE.  I DONT KNOW ANY OF YOU, BUT I GUESS SOMETIMES IT IS NICE JUST TO BE PART OF SOMETHING OUT OF YOUR NORMAL LIFE.

I HOPE THIS IS NOT TO PATHETIC.

I just confirmed it after I re-read this post, yup im pathetic.  I need a life  :'(

Nice Drewstar! :o ;)

Though considered a "troll" by some,  ::) I've been coming here for a couple years and now it's just habit I guess. I use to be a "regular" until YOU showed up and were FAR MORE entertaining that I Term!! ;D

Really though, it's the only place I can come on spa forums and not worry that Jim is going to get me fired AGAIN from another job! ;D He can't read these right? :-/ Oh, and if you can see this Jimmy... I work for HotSprings now... :P  ;)

I've never considered you to be a troll Steve.  You are who you say you are and do what you say you do.  A troll would be someone like a person who went by the name of "Leisure" that pretended to be a customer but was really an ex-spa dealer until they slipped up and were called on it.

I'm just silly, "down-home" in the redneck vernacular prevalent to this area.

Bosco, you have a tough job and if coming here helps you to blow off steam, more power to you!  What'd be really cool is if you would post some pics of your Canadian police weaponry!!! :D

In the last two months I've simply become a "spa groupie" -- I can't get enough of looking at tubs, talking about tubs, arguing about tubs...

I usually frequent several motorcycle boards, but those get boring this time of year, whereas this seems to be prime hot-tub-discussion time!

How many times do I have to apologize for that?

Me, this forum, and the cruise forum, keeps me out of trouble.

As an insurance agent, my work can get pretty boring. If anyone has ever read one of their policies they would know it makes great bedtime reading! So anyway, since I'm at my desk the majority of the time (when I'm not out on sales calls), I find it convenient (sometimes too much) to go online and raad or comment about the latest chatter. Plus, being somewhat argumentative (I guess), I find it interesting to mix it up with guys like Steve, Roger, and others!

Terminator....

I am here because when I was looking to purchase my first spa
last Spring I discovered the site and became casually addicted.

Besides just the tub I got good advice about the concrete slab
and other install information.

Then I began to enjoy hearing about others going thru the same
journey as myself.

It became a site to "check in on" daily.

There are alot of interesting stories, pictures, and spa
information on this site.

I know I learn something every day.

In the last week someone even seem to accuse me of
working for or with a hot tub company.....that struck
me as really funny...lol....because my very first hot tub
of my entire life is barely 8 months old.

But the real reason Term....is your "pic of day" contribution!

I like helping with water chemistry and HS service issues. On the water chemistry end, the consumers who frequent this site almost always beat me to it. They know their stuff! Chad beats me to the punch on the service end.
My work day consists of dispatching techs at 7am, keeping two spa/pool stores staffed and hopping, a wife who wants me home at 3pm, children, 3,5 and 7 weeks old, a couple 3-family houses with GREAT!? tenants................guess I'm bored. In the back of my mind i think i'm doing some good.

Like the others who are already happily enjoying spatopia, I come for the great company, stories, pictures and conversation....
this is a friendly place....I guess I can't say this is really an adiction, more like an attraction.

And Bosco, I am glad you are back..I missed you..I wish Cappykat would come back and let us know she is still loving her Epic. and by the way...Where is Mendo?

It's funny, I have "harvested" so much good information here on so many subjects ...my husband's first reply when I tell him about something new is.."Where did you hear about that? From your hot tub buddies?"  ;)

And Term, I think everyone on here enjoys what you bring to the forum...
Bill keeps eveyone in line so it's all good....

Term,

We started with this site when we were shopping for our tub.  It was a great resource for all kinds of information on manufacturers, water chemistry, help with and from dealers, etc. etc.  Afterwards, I felt that my background in water treatment/maintenance could be of help to someone else on this site.  Now it has become a bit of a habit but its always entertaining.

By the way, what happened to Spa Wars

By the way, what happened to Spa Wars

Betwixt having my bebe, being busy at the store, and fussin' about Little Tyke Spas, I had lost my creative essence and had developed writer's block.  I had forgotten the flow of the saga until I went back and re-read it today and actually chuckled out loud a couple of times (and I'm not a chuckler by nature).  I'm ch-chu- chuckling right now thinking about this:

I am trying to figure out how to translate the newest scene to a tangent visual.  I'll figure it out in the next day or so and get the ball rolling again!

Bosco, cool gun porn!!!

Thanks for all the kind words some of you have expressed towards me.  I appreciate it.

I'd agree with a lot of the comments here: there's good info to hear and sometimes advice to offer or experiences to share. And it is a little addictive, or just fun: sort of like people watching from afar. Bosco, I have to agree with you that I'm in it a bit for the escapism, and sometimes because  I'm awake at weird hours with nothing "normal" to do.....my job has a different, and less critical stress than yours does, but it is still super stressful most of the time, and with weird hours, too. If what you wrote was pathetic, then I'm a mess too.  :-X

It is neat to have a network of people all with one interest, most of whom have never met.

I did not know till this thread the definition of "troll". I thought it basically meant lurker, or quiet observer.

I'm here because my search for porn went bad....  :'(
Actually, I was spending too much time on Ebay buying slot machines, and went to a local tub shop...loved the idea, and researched online....where I managed to trip onto this forum, irritate and amuse most of the people here at one point or another...and started having to ask questions about water management, etc. while trying to test my understanding of what I'd read.
The work season's been too short, but some long hours involved, which has kept me away from the forum thusfar. However, the season is ending soon, so I'll have more "playtime" to figure out new, interesting ways to amuse, astound and otherwise annoy everyone.  ;)
YAY! :D

I'm not as regular a visitor as some, but I came originally for buying advice and now I like to hear the stories, chat, see how other people use their tubs, etc.  I was a regular reader on the "other" boards for over 2 years, which also gave me some good information, but the rants and Jim eventually got to me.  I'm glad Term, spatech t.u.o. and others here actually wade through the muck every now and then over there to help people out.  It definitely has higher visibility than these boards and tends to be the first one newbies stumble upon.

Plus, just like a couple of other boards I read regularly, once you get to know the people that frequent them, you actually get interested in them as people, so it's fun just to chat.   :D

My initial research brought me here. Since then, this forum has made me laugh ;D, think :-?, and wonder :-/. At least once a day I laugh at something which is justification enough for me to spend time here. Mostly, I'm being taught by the people here.
As weird as it sounds, I sometimes think how cool it would be if we all met for a big party in some central location. Wouldn't that be something?
Secondly, I feel obligated to actually inform ya'll when I finally do get my tub. :-[
Lastly, I really like reading the word cooch! :D

Hey Term,

Thanks for askin'.

I've learned so much from this and Doc's forums that I enjoy giving back what little knowledge/opinions I have to offer...especially regarding water care.

I also find I learn new info...though not at the same rate as 2+ years ago as a tubbing neophyte.

And, as you know, I'm also the self appointed MasterSpas defender...goodness knows what people here would think of MS if I didn't offer the minority opinion while trying to point out the wonderful qualities of my tub experience as an LSX owner.

And I just happen to enjoy you's guys.... 8-)

It[ch8217]s a great way to share experiences and troubleshoot the little things.  Sometimes I like to tackle little issues myself.  It helps me get better acquainted with my tub and better prepares me for when the warranty runs out.  I[ch8217]ll have a better understanding of why things do what they do and when they do it!!
I have soo much to learn...
Title: Re: Why Are Ya'll Here?
Post by: Vinny on November 10, 2006, 09:55:53 am
I started here to learn about tubs and spa water care. I learned a lot and keep learning things.

I also am here to try to help people with their tubs. Between shopping for it, water care and operation ... it can be a newbie's nightmare. Maybe it's an ego thing for me but I feel good about knowing that I did help someone.

Camaraderie is the other reason, it's nice to have a bunch of people that shares a common interest. The circle of people I know, which is very few, have no interest in hot tubs as a matter of fact my wife claims I get the WTF look when I say I have a tub - LOL!  There are some nice people out there and I would have never "met" them had I not been here!

Vinny

Oh, and one last thing ... I post at times to let people know that it's OK NOT to buy a spa from the Big 4! ;) ;D

I'm going on five years.  Back then you had Doc's forum, Pool and Spa, Spa Search (had to wait days sometimes to see your post), Whatsthebest and the Angelfire board.    I think Spababe had a forum also.  Angelfire was almost all pros, some still around..Phd H2O, Chas, Steve, Wisoki, Spateck tuo, Doc, Ken Lewis.  I apologize for anyone I missed.  These people have been helping folks it seems forever and I applaud them.  Roger started posting around the same time and I think Windsurfdog and Autoplay shortly thereafter.  Bill, I think you've been around as long.  He whose name should not be mentioned was fighting the same battles as now back then.  Doc's board has some very long time loyal followers who have been posting for years...Vermonter, tanbaby, mati, tasker.  I'm here because it is facinating and it is an easy little break from my day to skip in and see whats going on and skip out.   I don't post as much as others, but I've got longevity.
