I know this is off topic and may get killed immediately, but how about those gas prices? Here in Missouri, it has FINALLY gotten below $2.00 a gallon for the 1st time in 2 years. In fact, I saw it this evening on my way home for $1.95 a gallon. Unfortunately, I drive a diesel and although it has come down ($2.29) it is still above the $2.00 mark.
What are other folks paying around in your area??

Chas, why don't you check out the spas while you're at Costco? I heard they're good (and cheap)!

It's crazy to see how much the price can differ just 10 miles away.

I just recently posted this on the "general B.S. forum" site also: check out -www.gasbuddy.com it will show gas prices through out the U.S. and Canada, by city and station location.
I have been using this site for about the last 30 days and have actually posted local prices.
Seems to be a totally legit. site and have not gotten any spam that I know of as a result of logging in. :)

$2.59 here in Billings Montana, where less than 5 miles in 3 directions you run into the most profitable refineries in the country.. Up until a few weeks ago we had the second highest gas prices in the U.S. second only to Hawaii where they have to ship the fuel by boat 5000 miles.. Here they load it in a truck and drive a few hundred feet..
Three weeks ago we started creeping below the $3.00 mark.
The radio stations have been hammering on the refineries but the govt here wont do anything about it.. In a recent interview with the Governor of Montana, we were told that the refineries will pipe the gasoline and diesel to other states where they get less money for it, but deliberately keep it high here where its made. By the way, all our oil comes from Canada, Montana, and Wyoming, and crude prices are about 35% lower than on the coastal states where they get their oil from importing or ocean platforms. So the price of oil is 35% cheaper here and there are NO transportation costs of any kind, yet we have consistently had some of the highest prices in the country.
One more interesting tidbit.. they are looking at building a 4th refinery here, because it is so profitable here to sell gas.

If you believe that I have hot tub for that only cost $2,000, never needs chemicals, the water will last for 5-years and it has 6 20HP pumps in it. ;)

$2.58 for lo-test at the stop down the street from my house in Oakland yesterday.
Of course I noticed that they lowered the lo-test price but kept mid-grade and hi-test at $2.73 and $2.83. Around here, under $3 feels like a steal.
-
While we're at it, a house down the street is for sale for just under $700,000 - and it's smaller than mine. No upgrades or landscaping either.
Wow. I may have to retire outside of Southern Cal - I bet I could get a good price for mine and live off of it in any other state...

Here in Billings Montana, $700,000 will buy you about 5000-6000 sq ft in a high end neighborhood.. that would be a decent house too.. nice tile, carpet, hardwoods, maybe even stone on the floors, granite countertops, solid wood cabinetry, crown moulding in most rooms, brick or stone exterior, nice landscaping, etc.. If you go outside of town, where you will be on well water and a septic system, you can get into either a few dozen acres with a nice 6000 sq ft house, or a very nice 6000-8000 sq ft house on an acre.. My parents bought a house in town 3 years ago for about 500k and added about 200k to it (4th garage, pool, landscaping), and that house in many bigger cities would be going for 1.5 million+ (here it would sell for about $850k right now).. And real estate is considered expensive around here right now.. My brother built this summer for $390k, and he already owned the lot.. his house is 5600 sq ft with 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and is pretty stunning.. Even though the price of housing has doubled in the last 4 years here, it is still pretty damn cheap to live here, except for gas of course..
