Title: Phoenix Spas May Stop Building Spas
Post by: Gary on August 15, 2006, 06:47:10 pm
I heard a rumor that Phoenix is looking to get out of the manufacturing end of the business and have someone else do it for them.

Anyone else heard this?

Thats no surprise as getting parts from them took sometimes months and the communication to its dealers as far as ETA of spas was also horrific, add the little immigration thing a few years back and I dont think I would want to build them either..

Maybe their fire insurance got cancelled.

That would be amusing to me, since my one-time Arctic dealer bailed on Arctic to sell Phoenix since they are cheaper. Not that I hope any company goes belly up, but I have more benevolent wishes for some individuals than others ;)

I heard a rumor that he's in negotiations with Watkins, and they'll pick up for him right where Phoenix leaves off.

In fact, I'm pretty sure Watkins has even agreed that his designs are so superior to anything else on the market, they're going to scrap the whole full foam concept, and have even bought a small fan and tinfoil factory, to get greater economies of scale.

It would indeed be interesting to see what happens to the man if Phoenix stops making spa shells.

I'm pretty sure there are a whole bunch of manufacturers that would be more than willing to rebrand tubs for his market, small as it may be. After all a sale is a sale.

Well I don't think Jim will be discussing a mutual future with Jacuzzi.  After seeing his web site last week and noticing his implied association with them, I alerted Jacuzzi's customer service on Monday that he was using their name/trademark.  Now I see that all references to "Jacuzzi" has been removed from his site.

How come I got slammed when I asked about a rumor about Marquis, and this rumor is ok?  So, what are the facts with Phoenix?  I know they make spas for United also. :P

Probably because there are actual Marquis owners who participate in the forum on a regular basis.
 Maybe those people got defensive.
Marquis owners can be funny that way. ;)
As far as I recall, nobody here owns a Phoenix spa, so nobody to get PO'd.  And knowing what Phoenix does for the evil one makes it even less likely that someone would get pissy for seeing a Phoenix rumor posted.

Wow, looks like a found a word that made it past the censors.

So, is there anything more to this than just rumor?

Dan, are these nice spas? We had someone selling United spas out of a warehouse in my area a couple of years ago. They have since left town. Anyway, two people on my street bought United Spas and are somewhat happy. I helped one neighbor haul his into the backyard. It had very little insulation and he complains about his $100 electric bill.

That being said, he still thinks he got a killer deal even though he has no support and is completely on his own for repairs. He still wonders why I would buy a name brand spa from a dealer.

They are cheap spas with poor filtration, poor insulation, and little if any dealer support where they have dealers.

That being said, ultimately it is all hot water an bubbles and your neighbors should enjoy their spas for a few years.  They will probably be on their 2nd spas while you are in your Envoy.  ;)
