Title: Grandee Delivery Tomorrow - Start up question
Post by: tuggnet on June 14, 2006, 10:09:55 am
My Grandee is being delivered first thing tomorrow.  I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm planing on using the Nature2 system with it.  I noticed that Robert's Hot Tubs & Spas (http://www.rhtubs.com/store/nature2.htm) has the N2 cartridge for quite a bit less than my local dealer.

The only difference I see is the cartridge on the website is yellow and the one my dealer sells is gray.

Are they the same?  Will it work in my Grandee?

Thanks!

Eddie

Thanks, I'm sure I will enjoy it!

Does anyone have any experience with Robert's Hot tubs & Spas?

I guess I'm asking if it's a reputable place to deal with.

Cheers,

Eddie

SpaDr, a frequent and valued contributor is from Roberts.

They have an excellent reputation.

The fella in charge of that outfit is somewhat beady-eyed and bow-legged, and I've been told he is a bit of a dandy, but otherwise reputable.

I'm a year older today and my brain just stepped down a notch, but Its Dr. Spa isn't it?  I think we have had several spadoctors on here in recent years.

The contents are the same, but the cartridge is different.  You can make it work.  The Hot Spring version is designed to fit, while the yellow one is universal.  If not installed proerly, it can end up sucked into the plumbing.  That is rare, but I have seen it happen and then you have a non-warranty service call to remove it.

Carefully follow instructions that come in the box.  Make sure you replace every 4 months.  How much did you pay for them?

I paid $20.99 for each.  The local dealer wants $25.99 or something like that.  I bought them at www.rhtubs.com.

The N2 cartridges for HotSpring have a shoulder which allows them to be dropped into the filter holder and stay put. The yellow ones do not have this, so they drop deep into the filter pipe and can block the flow. You have can put the extension rods on them and turn them upside down, but then you have to fish them out four months later.

The stuff inside is the same, and Roberts Hot Tub is a great place to buy stuff.

I haven't looked at a Grandee, but is it less effective to just lay them in a filter compartment?

I don't think it would work as well. The cartridge works by having water wash over it - there is some circulation in the filter compartment of a Grandee, but not as much as in the core of the filter.

The cartridge definitely needs the water flow over it.  It will not work as well if out of the stand pipe.

I would use the ones you have and then start buying them from your local dealer.  You are saving $15/yr and not going to have a product that fits properly.

Plus, I always say, support your local dealer.

Yes, I would suggest supporting your local dealer next time. This way you will get the HotSpring version which will fit correctly into your filter. For a couple of bucks more I wouldn't hassle with the other style. Just my two cents.

Okay, in the mean time, MAYBE you could rig something through the filter slots on the stand pipe to keep the N2 cartridge from accidentally slipping too low? Or...instead of having to 'fish' it out in 4 months, can some thick fishing line or a zip tie be run through a couple of the vent slots in the cartridge to form a loop for easy removal? I switched over to bromine a couple months ago, I don't recall the exact setup, sorry. :(

Best of luck, you'll LOVE your Grandee!
