Here's some background for setting the scene: I have a couple friends- married for a ton of years, love toys for the house. They have a sound system that my audiophile B/F sort of cringes at, since they are occasionally trying to do things with it that offend his perfectionism. (He uses the computer to decide where to place speakers). I have no idea to what degree they research their purchases, but at least are very happy with them.
Here's where the betting comes in. So I guess this last weekend they bought a spa. The b/f was talking to them:
"Well hey, congrats! What brand did you get?"
"Brand? Of, I dont remember, but it has a pop-up flat screen TV, sound system, and the guy was willing to give us this GREAT deal, so we had to move fast. It was supposed to be $15,000, but we got it for $8000!"
My boyfriend at this point swallows hard and takes a deep breath. He knows how I feel about TVs on spas.
"Wow- well, that sounds like a great spa. Did you know that Anne recently bought one?"
"No! What did she get?"
"An Arctic." He does not expect them to respond with much.
"Really? I heard those were REALLY good....."
::)
So I have NO idea what, if any, reasearch they did, and I still dont know what they bought. Anyone care to hazard a guess? I'll work on getting the real answer. I can guarantee you they were not willing to wet test.
-
Ill bet 5lbs of Dichlor they bought a thermospa.
-
I'll see your Di-chlor and raise you 1 tri chlor "hockey puck". ;D
My first guess is MasterSpa. Runner up is: Southwest Spas.
-
I'll go with Phoenix.
-
Hmmm. On second thought. $8k and has a tv? I doubt Thermospa would sell one that cheap.
Gotta be an off brand.

Gotta be an off brand.
That seems to be the consensus thus far.

I’m going to guess that it’s a Catalina TV spa.

Do any of the "Big 5" offer a TV?
I'm going with MASTER.
In a tent.
On the side of the road.
A-la Term's crocidile adventure. 8)

Do any of the "Big 5" offer a TV?
HotSpring, Tiger River, Solana, and HotSpot do not. I'm not sure about the other company.

Yes, if you buy one of their top end spas they'll throw in a free 13" black and white TV at no additional charge.
-
I'm just glad to see that they got nearly 1/2 off the spa...Whew... ::)

Who's that? I asssume it's a pop up Tv?
-
I'll take a WAG and say Gulf Coast. Not sure if they even offer TV's in their spas, but they are good at the half price thing.
-
Soft tub? ;D
-
Some of your guesses are not in Anne's (my) market. ;)

They have a "sound system" that my audiophile B/F sort of cringes at, since they were taken by the sales guy who convinced them that this overpriced system was just sooooo good. much.
Bose?
-
Bose?
Ouch.
But then again, you drive a Viper. So you understand overpriced flash.
;)
Ducks and runs out quickly.
-

$8K? 100% positively not a Cal Spa!!!!!!! ;D

****DAILY DOUBLE****
Answer correctly and we'll throw in a pop up tv!!!!
They must have answered right ;)
-
I have yet to talk to them, but hopefully by tonight.....
-
My hundred schmackos says it IS a Calspa.
-
Gulf Coast or is it Gold Coast
-
Master.
Welcome back spaman. Where have you been?
-
2004 leftover Catalina tv spa
-
so what type of spa did they get?
-
I talked to her today, and she does not know! LOL. She wanted to know what HP my pumps were. She knows that it was a small dealership with a friendly dealer, and she was talked in to some sort of a maintenance package. They are happy. If I find out, I'll post it!!! ;D

Ask her where they got it. You or I might know what they sell...if they haven't changed brands lately. ;)

Coast makes one with a TV thats my guess

Not at that price.

I'll see them this weekend and grill some more. When we chatted this afternoon, she was so impressed that I actually went to the effor to wet test before my purchase....not just the one I bought but 6-7 tubs! ;D

Anne, the suspense is killing us, ask her what the control panel says, ask her to identify anything she can short of looking into the equipment area for the manufacturers name. What did the bill of sale say?
-
Anne's friend knows. Hell if she is asking about HP, she knows. It sounds like an off brand. What does Cost-co sell? Or Walmart, Sam's.
-
No. she really does not know. I'm not kidding, and she is not avoiding me. She doesn't remember. (I love her anyway). ;D She told me she'd check the brochure at home. They bought it a few days ago, but it has not been delivered. Oh, another detail- it does have shoulder jets. And it is definitely not a box-store brand. She said she would never buy a tub from a place like that- she researched how poorly made they are, and how often they break down.
-
Well, there's more identifying info, if they are reverse molded above the water line shoulder jets AND has a TV, it's got to be Master. So noiw I'll revise my wager and bring it to 200 schmackos and call it a master, probably NOT full foamed.
No. she really does not know. I'm not kidding, and she is not avoiding me. She is really that clueless. (I love her anyway). ;D She told me she'd check the brochure at home. They bought it a few days ago, but it has not been delivered. She is the type of person to buy into the hype of "this many jets" and "this HP" and still not get in a tub before buying it, except to dry test it to make sure her hair will be above the water level. Oh, another detail- it does have shoulder jets. And it is definitely not a box-store brand. She said she would never buy a tub from a place like that- she researched how poorly made they are, and how often they break down. 8)

I'm going to stick with my Phoenix bet.
-
My bet is Catalina.
Nice to see you all again, homeshow season was a killer.
-
Ill bet 5lbs of Dichlor they bought a thermospa.
That was my thinking, now to catch up on reading.
-
Anne,
What did your friends buy??? ???
Do they still not know? :o
-
Do you have a Coast dealer close by? I think you're on the money with a Cal...Coast also offers "big savings" and a TV spa. Often at a home show or fair ;D
-
I still dont know. I saw them last night and they could not come up with it. If I find out what it was, I'll post it. If this helps, I think it was a little place in Rocklin.
-
I still dont know. I saw them last night and they could not come up with it. Then I opened my big mouth and suggested this forum to them for good info.......I hope that they dont check it till they get the tub in a few weeks, and by that time, this thread will be history. Not that I was derogatory towards them, but........ ::)
If I find out what it was, I'll post it in a new thread! If this helps, I think it was a little place in Rocklin.
To my memory, Rocklin has dealers for Catalina, Sundance, Caldera, Dynasty (they may be gone), Artesian and Cal Spa.

It was not Sundance. I know that they went there, and did not like the dealer. I mentioned that I looked at Artesian, and that did not ring a bell to them. Isn't Cal Spa (Home Resort) pretty big? They described it as a "mom and pop" store.
-
Dynasty.
Going with the one I'm familiar with.

copycat :P
i guess great minds think alike ;)
-
I promise that I'll post the answer as soon as I get it. I'm in suspense, too. For now, I'd prefer that this thread fade into the past in case they follow my brilliant advice from the other day of using this site for spa-ducation. What I goober I am. :P
I couldn't help it, though, since I knew they'd benefit from all the knowledge here! :D
-
Anne, this thread will probably hang around until we get satisfaction. Instead of worrying about you friends reading your disparaging remarks ;) Just go to your posts, click on modify, and change your words so they don't sound so harsh.
-
I hope she doesn't get rid of the post where she admits to having sexual fantasies about her friends husband. 8) ;D :D
Rofl annnd... *bump* on the thread!
-

I deleted it Anne. I was just yanking your chain. Of course you quoted me, and I can't do anything about that. ;D ;) :)
-
4 pages later and no answer...what a cliff hanger...
-
there was a final answer, in a different thread with a similar name...... ;)
-
I'll add my $2($1.65 American) with the others voting for the Catalina.
Anne, you didn't say if your friends ordered it with all the flashing LED lights to go with the pop up plasma. ;D
-
I never heard the answer either Anne. What did they go with? Maybe you don't want to say?
-
Oh, c'mon....give us the final answer!
-
Sorry, I dont remember the name- I posted the answer as a second thread, and now I cant find it! :P
I'm trying to come up with more search criteria.....I'll keep working on it.....
-
I guess the fact that I cannot remember the name says something ;D
-
Got it!
