Title: You Crazy Consumers!
Post by: East_TX_Spa on May 25, 2006, 06:25:01 pm
An elderly woman has been calling us all week to come and fix her spa.  We have no record of her but she insists she bought a HotSpring Spa from us 20 years ago.  OK, we'll come and fix it.

She called twice today.  "When are ya'll going to be here?  My spa isn't working and I need it fixed!"

Our service manager gets to her home, takes a look, and says "Ma'am, you did not buy this spa from us."

"You wait right there and I'll get the paperwork and we'll just see who's telling the truth."

"Yes Ma'am."

So Ronnie goes ahead and takes the front panel off.  She comes back and says "I guess you realized I was right."

"No Ma'am, I'm just waiting for you to get the paperwork.  You see, this is an AquaSpa and it was manufactured in 1963.  We have only been in business since 1985.  But I did fix your spa."

"What was wrong with it?"

"It needed to be plugged in."

"Oh."

Just happened an hour ago.

I once had a repair guy out to fix our dishwasher only to find out that the little "float" switch was stuck.    He reached in and tapped it...$50, thank you very much.  I asked him to stay and have a cup of coffee just so I would feel like I got my money's worth.  ;)    :-/

One time I got to a job - pushed the reset button and the spa came back to life. Spa was out of warranty, and the customer had been a complete pain for the entire duration of the warranty. He now refused to pay. I walked back to the spa, unplugged the circ pump, waited for the heater to overtemp and shut down, plugged the circ pump back in and began closing up and collecting my tools.

I mentioned the old addage: it's not so much what I do as what I know that you are paying me for. Nothing.

I mentioned that the service charge had been explained in advance. Nothing.

I reminded him that we had tried to talk him through the proceedure over the phone and he said he couldn't do it, we needed to come do it. Nothing.

I reminded him that we had already done this whole scene a year ago when he let his filters get nasty plugged, and I told him I would have to charge next time. Nothing.

I finally just told him that I had "put everything back just the way it was when I found it," and that we could call it "even."

I had a friend call the copy-machine repair man.  The repair man loaded the machine with paper and it worked.

Charged them about $40 or so.  Machine was fine, it was just out of paper.

I told them that I'd come to their office and add paper for only $35.   :D

I didn't ask.

As far as whether or not we charged her, no, we did not.  We don't nickel and dime folks to death. :)
