Title: first water change

Well folks, I just completed my first water change.  I started draining it late last night before going to sleep (probably took 2 or 3 hours to drain).

My water was a bit cloudy and I thought I'd implement the 30 day newbie rule for changing water rather than continue to fight the cloudiness with chemicals.

Temperature in in the low 90s.  Looks like we'll be back in hot water this evening.

I gave the tub a good wipe down and also rinsed the filters (just cleaned them last week). I've added some of the metal-gone chemical and some dichlor.

Any pointers for a newbie?

Chas would be proud.  Now that the first tub is past, my advise when you think you need to add something, put in 80% of what you did before.

Congrats on your first water change.  After the second, enjoy a good soak before chems.  The chlorine level out of the tap is likely measurable.

I'm not exactly sure what caused my cloudy water problems, but the theory of "adding more chemicals" didn't seem to help.

I'd say the Water Brightener chemical (helps clump gunk so that it collects in the filters) Foam Gone or SpaPerfect probably contributed.  I'm very much wanting to add nothing but dichlor to this tub of water and forget all that other stuff.

also don't forget to put your defender in tomorrow.

Foam down will definately make the spa water cloudy if you use a lot of it as will the bright and clear.

keep it simple. add your dicholor and defender weekly and monitor the PH and alkalinity

I always try to use the matra that "less is more"
use the least amount of products in your spa to keep it clean and sanitized

defender?  what's that?
i'm using artesian brand chemicals (except spaperfect)

I had a fresh water soak last night.  First soak in the second batch of water.   Wow!   What a difference.  The water was crystal clear and squeaky clean.

It was super easy and well worth it.
