Title: It's here. The big day.
Post by: TN__HOT_TUB on April 19, 2006, 12:27:48 pm
Well, it took just over 3 weeks to get here.  Things worked out just fine, because we used that time to get the patio and deck ready.

Here it is (still a little more work to do on the patio/deck).

Water temp at 11AM was 62. Hopefully we'll hit 100 in time for a late night soak.

Not sure about the honeys.

Funny conversation a few days ago with a couple of my buddies.  We were moving rock and I extended an invitation to the 2 friends that showed up to help.  My friend asked my wife if she thought it would be a bit weird for 3 or 4 men to share a hot tub together with no women.

I guess it was one of those moments where we all knew we couldn't wait to jump in the tub, but didn't want to seem any less macho than we already are.  (Kinda like when a guy rides on the back of a motorcyle).

Looking good! You're going to enjoy your purchase no doubt!

As for sitting in it with just the fellas? Hey - Once a month my three buddies come over (without the wives) and we bbq up the biggest, fattest steaks we can find, then sit in the tub and smoke cigars and drink a few pops, all the while catching up on everything.

Its awesome. We sit out there for hours - the night just slides by!

Of course, we aren't against the ladies joining us from time to time...... ;D

Hope you enjoy it!

I told my buddies that people wouldn't think I looked weird because it was my tub.

We decided we didn't give a sh*t.

Beer- Making awkward moments comfortable for hundreds of years
3-4 guys in a 6 person tub, no problem, in  a smaller tub, well, maybe.

ROFLMAO   ;D   Too funny.

Yeah, we've told all our friends that we got the big tub that will seat 5/6 sober folks and 8/9 drunks.

Now if I can only figure out a way to extend the beer line on my kegerator......hmmmm?

;DAwesome job with the rock.  Looks great!

Mine has been in for a week as of yesterday and it's truely a treat!  So far, no chemical worries...test strips are easy to use.  The ozone seems to keep the water crystal clear, along with the MPS and Nature 2.

BEST PART:  Here in Cleveland, we finally have a good baseball team again and sitting in the tub with the stereo on the game, drinking a beer and watching the sun go down....that's livin'!!!

Congrats again!

I'm in Tennessee and we don't have any local baseball teams (not that I'm a big fan anyway...the strike of 1994 really turned me away).

I'm more a Pats fan, but yea the $$ is crazy.

Private lots are getting $100 to park near Fenway.  No lie.

Oh yea, so I don' t get yelled at  ;)

Water is at 90 degrees.  The kids just got home from school.  I'm thinking I might do a little "cool" soak/swim with the kids.

The wife and I can do a little hot water hot tubbing later.  I can't stand it any longer and I'm going to use the kids as an excuse.

Rest assured, if there are ever two "real" honies in my tub and my wife isn't one of them, then I'm in big trouble.  Especially if there are photos and the photos make it to the internet.   :D

By the way, we had a ball playing in the hot tub.  Not exactly therapeutic with those two honies.  I'm waiting for my wife to get home before giving the tub it's true first dip.

TN, that looks great! Ironically, I just finished my flagstone, and was just aboutto post pics ( had the tub first, finished patio second)

If you have trouble with the sand coming loose, like you mentioned, I may have a solution. depends on how mine holds up, but I'm happy being a guinea pig.

happy soaking!!!!!

So far, so good with the sand (little messy when it rains).  I'm curious, what is your solution for the sand?
Title: Re: It's here. The big day.
Post by: anne on April 19, 2006, 11:35:34 pm
I bought "polymeric sand" that has adhesive in it. The gravel and sand under the flagstone is normal gravel and paver sand. then for the last 1/2-3/4 inch around the stone, I put polymeric sand. When wet, it hardens to something very resistant to erosion and shifting, but would crack apart more easily than mortar if I wanted to disassemble it. It was a bit of a PITA b/c you have to sweep it in very carefully, leaving nothing on the rock surface, than water it very lightly over and over so it does not get blown out of the cracks, but for a rookie like me, was more forgiving than mortaring.

We'll see what it looks like in 5 years, tho. Dunno!

Sounds like the ol "dry mortor" method.  I've heard of Portland Cement and sand mixture for such things as well.

Both methods encourage being careful to not get any on the rocks as it will dry.  I've heard of folks using a large mortor piping bag (similar to icing a cake) to apply between the cracks.

yep. I was afraid to just mix mortar in with sand and then get it wet since I had no idea what proportion to add. So I paid way too much for prepared stuff. It is different then mortar in that it is almost "gluey" till it dries and then has a tiny bit of spring to it once dry. Very weird stuff.

we'll probably do something similar soon, but for now i'm still adding sand in spots.

i'm finding that the dry sand makes a mess after it rains, which i don't want to track into my tub (can somebody say foot bath?).
