Title: Jacuzzi J-480
Post by: golferm on April 05, 2006, 04:56:13 pm
Just got back from my Jacuzzi dealer - picking up some chems.

for those in the market right now for a Grandee, Optima, Epic, or other high end tubs, you should do yourself a favour and look at the J-480.

It has taken both Jacuzzi and Sundance tubs to a new level (IMHO)

A few highlights (and btw, I'm not a dealer)

1.  New Jets w/ different clusters
2.  New Air controls
3.  80/20 air to water ratio
4.  New kickin' sound system
5.  Centre pod w/ jets and lights
6.  Water falls work off a seperate control
7.  one side of tub is higher than the other - it looks really cool!!
8.  New Filtration which allows for a much larger square foo area while keeping energy costs the same
9. Microban shell

10....and finally for those Jacuzzi owners spilling their drinks all over the place (like me)-------cup holders!!!!

Why is one end higher, for the waterfalls?  It's a pretty spa. :)

For the waterfall and unique look.  Jacuzzi has always had a unique look...

one end's higher so you can put the tub on a slope.  ;D ;) that's the "deep end"

I guess COAST finally got rid of that goofy looking spa where the whole front end is a waterfall.

I saw the 480 when I stopped in for chems .  It's beautiful, but compared to my 385:

Positives:
deeper
high end makes for great waterall effect
floating skimmer is a great idea
lounge has better foot massage jets
pillows are much better

Negatives:
2 single speed pumps instead of two 2-speed pumps and 1 single speed pump.
high end makes cover problematic and limits site location and placement
dome makes moving around difficult (for us)
diverter, waterfall and air controls confusing and more diffuclt to operate
only one control panel
$2,900 more than my 385

Overall I think the 385 is a better bargain and better tub, but if I were shopping for my 1st tub now it would be hard to pass up those great deep seats and gorgeous waterfalls.

Our Home Show starts this weekend and we're taking the J-470 with the stereo. I'm really glad to read that the J-480  caught your attention, I hope the J-470 is an attention getter for us. We're also taking the top of the Coleman line, the 706 which has always been a great seller for us.

I just found out today that both my Jacuzzi and Coleman rep will be in our little booth with us working side by side on Saturday at the show. :o ;D

We were hoping for one on Saturday and one on Sunday, however someone got their wires crossed and they'll get to work together. :o :o

I'll post pictures if it gets ugly.... ;D ;D ;D

Spa Happy, I have done 3 shows since the 400 series came out, the only advice I can give you is to make sure you fill the 470. It rocks. And the stereo will blow people away.  I have another show going this weekend too. Best of luck!

That's a positive I forgot.  There are speakers set into the shell.  No more of that pop-up stuff.  I didn't hear them but it doesn't make sense for them to put cheapos in.  Are there external jacks to connect a home stereo to the spa speakers?

No! According to the new U.L. standards that is unsafe.  (U.L. Code 1563 Section 39.11)

Hey Term, for no other reason than it's damn pretty. They went for (and I HATE this term) out side the box design, and blew it away. It is as you say a pretty spa, in my measly 15 years in this business, I dare say it is the best looking spa I have ever seen. The cover operates with a lifter just the same as any other cover with lifter on any other spa. The cover is a solid 5 inches froom back to center then tapers from there to 3 inches. It has the same water run off capeabilities as any other spa. The controls are the same yet different as all the other Jacuzzi Hot Tubs, just knobs as opposed to buttons. Awesome tubs. I do have a question though, or maybe it's a statement. Do you think Jacuzzi dropped the portion of their name "Premium Spas," because of a bunch of whiney Sundance dealers, now they are called Jacuzzi Hot Tubs.

Speaking from expereince,   drink holders, or at least a decent edge on the tub  is a must.  ( I also think cool down seats are a necessity in the design as well).

I'm curious  what is the ballpark  price range on the new J-480?

I love the Jacuzzi...we considered the 385.  Just gotta put a little dig here on the stereo.  Marquis has already done it with their soundsations.

It has taken both Jacuzzi and Sundance tubs to a new level (IMHO)  Or at least brought Jacuzzi up to a new level ;D ;)

1.  New Jets w/ different clusters (bearingless?)
2.  New Air controls (o.k.)
3.  80/20 air to water ratio (??)
4.  New kickin' sound system (Sundance has had for couple of years )
5.  Centre pod w/ jets (Just like an Optima!!)
6.  Water falls work off a seperate control (Just like an Optima)
7.  one side of tub is higher than the other - it looks really cool!! (I'll give ya that)
8.  New Filtration which allows for a much larger square foo area while keeping energy costs the same (Micro-filtration?)
9. Microban shell (this is not true - unless they are using a different acrylic than Sundance - which I doubt)

10....and finally for those Jacuzzi owners spilling their drinks all over the place (like me)-------cup holders!!!! (nice feature)

Thanks Micah and best of luck to you as well. The J-470 will have water in it at the show. Tomorrow will be the first time I've seen this spa. Or main store ordered two for the show they did in March and both of them sold before we could get the chance to travel down to see them.

My co-worker and I both love our Coleman 706's, but who knows we may just have to upgrade to the J-470 after this weekend. ::) ::)

Do you know what you are going to sell it for?  I've heard from my Jacuzzi rep that throughout the country Jacuzzi dealers are afraid to sell the value of this unique collection of spas, the 400 series.

Canadian price I was quoted was....

$13,700 + $1700 for stereo option.

Pricey, but it's got everything.

10,700.00 with stereo 9,700.00 without.

I'm a little nervous this is the highest priced spa we've ever sold. However up till now 35% of our total spas sold were the Coleman 706. That spa is now priced at 9,400.00.

My store is a small branch store, located 100 miles from the end of the world. However we sell more high end spas than our main store simply because it's the spa we have in our backyard and we really love our 706's.

I have a feeling after reading the comments here that hubby might not get to trade our boat off for that new one just yet. Cuz momma might just have a new spa.... ::)

I didn't order a 480 for my show, as I'm not a big fan of lounge seats, I had a 470 in platinum with the coastal gray synthetic cabinet and stereo, the wet demo 470 sold for  10,750, I took 6 other orders on the same model all @ 11,500. True, these spas are expensive, but absolutly worth every penny. That is the first time I've ever posted what I've sold a spa for and I think it will be the last too, I'm not real comfortable publishing prices like that.

I'm not a big fan of lounges either but it sure seems like a lot of customers are (probably more than 50%), especially those who go to a show and buy without ever wet testing them.

We hardly even use the lounge in our 385, but we knew that from our wet tests.  Wish they had a 385 with a deep bucket seat in that spot.

It may answer some questions a lot of people ask why some spa stores do not post prices on their spas

OH, I post prices on my spas. I just will not write the price on a business card or a brochure. That information is kept on a lead card that the customer sees. When they come back, everything I promised is on the card including the price, in my lead file.

Does that mean that one person could pay $500 or $1000 more for the same spa as another person?

What is new about the stereo in the J480?

Are the jets in the J480 like the j385 or more like the Sundance jets?

With the 480 Jacuzzi introduced 3 new jets (not like the sundance jets) Jacuzzi is sticking with the 50% water 50% air mixture and one jet has 80% air 20 % water.  Yesterday I had a couple in that had wet tested 4 other brands, first they got in the J-345 and really liked it.  Then they got in the Jacuzzi 480.  20 minutes later I started the paperwork. Their comments were that nothing compared to the Jacuzzi 480.
P.S. The stereo Rocks,

I just got a look at one today while chemical shopping. I wished I would have looked at this post first. Perhaps the photo was taken with a slightly fish eye lens making that look more prounounced.   It didn't seem that striking of a difference in person.

Could everyone with just one foot please raise their hand? Yes, I know some people DO only have one foot (or less) for a variety of reasons but I think it is safe to say most people still have 2. So why build a lovely foot dome (something I know some may not care for but which for me was a short coming of the 385) and then only put one foot jet per seat in. That is the way the 365 is built as well.

Seems strikingly odd to me and a feature I liked about my spa, which has 2 per seat, as does the Sundance Optima, Dynasty Voyager and Emerald spa among others for example (although a sister tub, the Vita Nuage is built with only one as well).
