My family is flying out to here for spring break. Had the wife throw in a few ounces of chlorine to work while theyre gone. She turned the pumps on and bam the whole house lost power.
Great
It was only a power outage due to thunderstorm activity but they had to leave for the airport. Had to manual work the garage and now I have to call my neighbor and have him check the tub to make sure it is working.

I know that you will understand this more than most....
The problem is on the Bemer the screams can be heard over the pipes. ;)

Hey bubba stu,
How's that new bike? How many miles now? I'm envious! 8)
-
I put 700 miles on it in the first month and then weather got to where I couldn't ride. I will be back in the saddle in the next three weeks.
I found that it just doesn't get better than riding a BMW and then setting in my epic after....Kinda makes me feel rich and famous! ;D 8)
-
Stuart, I'll let ya know once we fire up the Macks and Harleys and then soak. ;)
-
I don't think you have to let me know when you fire up the Harleys...We can pretty much hear them from just about anywhere ;) :)
Ahh...the joy of cruising in peace. 8)

*lol* Actually, the Harley I ride is quieter than my Mack...the HUBBY'S bike, however....yikes. :o
That reminds me....time to invest in earplugs!
-
One thing to remember about loud pipes!! They save lives!!!!!
Louder the better is my motto. Now I just wish my bike was out of the shop.
-
I have 2 bikes a Goldwing and a Harley. The Goldwing is quiet and sounds like a sewing machine the Harley is loud and a whole lot more fun to ride. The Goldwing is like sitting on top of a bike and driving it the Harley you feel like your part of the machine

Are you telling me the reason folks drive thier Harleys wide open is for saftey? Yea, okay. Sure. ::)
Bikers who drive thier bikes trrough residential areas with pipes open are assh___ in my opinion. Country road? fine. HAve a ball! Houses within 2000 feet = Jerks.

I am an OLD motorcyclist. Been riding for the best part of 40 years. And I hate loud pipes. When I was a youngster we used to pretty much have the run of a lot of land. Did enduro riding, street riding, you name it. Today not only is riding off road extremely restricted, but it is getting harder all the time to retain access to the legal highways. I attribute a lot of this to loud pipes.
I have a saying that goes like this: The louder the pipes the smaller the penis. For all you loud pipe types remember this: Less sound, more ground. For the most part, these loud pipe guys are not real good riders either. Loud pipes tell me to steer clear of the doofus in the saddle.
I feel better now.

Less sounds, More ground??? as far as i know i get the same amount of ground as the guy with the bike that you can't hear.
in the 20 years i have been riding i have always like the loud pipes and i think i always will. ;D
-
Then again......my hubby BOUGHT his bike with those loud pipes on it.....we bought used, not new....and his was already VERY customized. ;) No compensation going on there!

Water...,
"Less sounds, More ground as far as i know i get the same amount of ground as the guy with the bike that you can't hear."
Unless you have been living on another planet you have to be aware of all the land use restrictions on both public and private land aimed at motorcycles and snowmobiles. The ground we have available to ride on is diminished because of other users not wanting us. Loud pipes has a lot to do with that.
"in the 20 years i have been riding i have always like the loud pipes and i think i always will. "
You need to think about this some more. If you are not already a member, consider joining the AMA (American Motorcyclist Association) so that you can learn more about the ramifications of what you are espousing.

From the AMA postition statement on excessive noise:
http://www.ama-cycle.org/legisltn/positions/noise.asp
"....Shifting blame and failing to adopt responsible policies on a voluntary basis can only result in greater prejudice and discrimination against motorcycling. The consequences of continuing to ignore this issue will likely result in excessively rigorous state and federal standards, more expensive and less attractive motorcycles, the reduction of choices in aftermarket products, abusive enforcement of current laws and other solutions undesirable to riders and the motorcycle industry.
Based on its opposition to excessive motorcycle noise, the American Motorcyclist Association recommends the following:
* All motorcyclists should be sensitive to community standards and respect the rights of fellow citizens to enjoy a peaceful environment.
* Motorcyclists should not modify exhaust systems in a way that will increase sound to an offensive level.
* Organizers of motorcycle events should take steps through advertising, peer pressure and enforcement to make excessively loud motorcycles unwelcome.
* Motorcycle retailers should discourage the installation and use of excessively loud replacement exhaust systems.
* The motorcycle industry, including aftermarket suppliers of replacement exhaust systems, should adopt responsible product design and marketing policies aimed at limiting the cumulative impact of excessive motorcycle noise.
* Manufacturers producing motorcycles to appropriate federal standards should continue to educate their dealers and customers that louder exhaust systems do not necessarily improve the performance of a motorcycle.
* Law enforcement agencies should fairly and consistently enforce appropriate laws and ordinances against excessive vehicle noise.
* The motorcycle industry and the safety community should educate customers that excessive noise may be fatiguing to riders, making them less able to enjoy riding and less able to exercise good riding skills. ...

I have encountered extreme physical pain from the noise some of the motorsickles generate, and I'm hard of hearing to begin with. When they tear up and down the street at my store, I at least have the decency to use a suppressor on my AR-15 as I take pot shots at them.

mighty purty barrel ya got there.....oh, lookie there.....a Grandee AND a beer! Isn't that called "enticing the customers"? ;)

Bill.
The way I see it is if my bike passes the noise inspection, then it is ok to have it.
Up here in good old live free or die NH. They are really cracking down on the noise from bike and the reason this all started is from the young kids and their loud car stereos.
As far as people not wanting us riding in certain areas or roads, I don't think I have ever been pulled over or told to get off a road because motorcycles are not allowed due to the loud noise they make. I think that you are talking more of an off road thing then on road.
I do agree that some bikes can and are too loud. But a custom exhaust that passes the state inspection is just fine with me.

Drewstar,
Thank you for taking the time to find the AMA position statement. It seems like every month there are stories in their magazine of attempts at further restriction on our riding access. This is an important issue.

Water...,
My wife and I own a house in Colebrook, NH, that has been in the family for over 100 years. We were married in Colebrook in 1969 and had our reception at the Colebrook House on Main Steet. We visit Colebrook several times every year. I have more than a passing familiarity with the "Live Free or Die" attitude and share it.
You might be familiar with the Blessing of the Bikes that occurs at the Shrine every year in Colebrook? If so, you might like to know that the State Troopers are outside the gates, on Route 3 stopping bikes with straight pipes and ticketing them. The criteria may be a sound pressure monitoring device, but I have been told that they look for a DOT stamp on the muffler. Live free or die to them means not disturbing your non-riding brethern with your loud pipes.
