Title: Wake Up T-Lady we are dying to know
Post by: Bonibelle on March 31, 2006, 07:12:55 am
Hey T-Lady, so what do you think?  After this long exciting wait...we really need your first impression! ;D
Was the tub up to temp this morning?  Who jumped in first?

I was up at 3 with the husky.....it was warm, but not warm ENOUGH....this thing's taking FOREVER to heat! (not really, but it's like watching a toaster) I'll be patient though...I've gotta let the chlorine gas off.....put a heavy dose in last night, per the dealer to kill any cruddies that may've hitched a ride over...
I'll let y'all know right after I soak and change into dry clothes, though! *lol* That should be.....oh.....3 weeks from next Thursday?   ;) ;D

okay.....here are a couple......
I was amazed that a) they managed to get the pickup truck AND trailer into our back yard, and
b) the tub was not only wrapped....but re-wrapped, and foamed on the corners......HS really likes foam.

The guys that brought it out are the owner of the shop and his brother, who's the tub tech...older guys that know what they're doing. I guided a couple times, just so nothing fell off the edge of the deck (THAT woulda sucked), but they did 99% of the real work....here's a shameless plug for 'em, they were GREAT
(http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e106/TatooedLady/DSCF0010.jpg)
I also have to give the electrician a LOT of credit...he's not the owner, but one of the "goobers" that usually gets stuck working on hot tub hookups in the rain...this was his first hookup in NICE weather...he kept me amused for hours with his wit and humor....and tolerated my poking my nose in just to see what he was doing VERY well.
Gotta throw this in.....pre first fill
(http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e106/TatooedLady/DSCF0015.jpg)
I should've asked before.....how do I shrink these to thumbnails??  ???

Congrats Tattoo!

Are you all set with dihydrogen monoxide? Did your dealer go over the benifits and risks of it?

Improper levels of dihydrogen monoxide will ruin the tub and can also kill you.  I cannot belive your dealer didn't even mention it.

Here's a link.  http://www.dhmo.org/facts.html

Yopu may want to call your dealer imediently to discuss this.

he had me call him to let him know when tub was up and running.....told me to add some of the MinQuest, and then later to add a couple TBSP of dichlor....then said I should call him this morning, and he'll let me know what the next step is. Sooo....it's over the phone, but at least he's making sure to guide me along.
So I'll be testing the water in a bit, and calling him with the numbers.

Couple things:  as a newbie owner to be, I think I need a minor in chemistry to get all this stuff.

also, it strikes me funny that we'll drink the hell out of the stuff but to soak in it, we need to add all these chemicals!!!

Also, TL....awesome looking tub!  Congrats!

Most newbies are aware of  dihydrogen monoxide and it's very important. I am surprised that we really don't discuss it as much as we should.

Folks new to hot tubbing should  find out more about it.  I cannot stress that enough.

That is a fine looking spa!!!  As a matter of fact, I'm getting one exactly like it in about 2 hours.  We can do the water treatment together, if you'd like. :)

Congratulations!!!!  Big time.

thanks, everyone.....it's been a really stressful time for me, trying to make sure everything's "just right" (I know y'all can sympathize there)...so far, no soak....I'd like to know how in blazes you all get the water hot and balanced enough in under 12 hours....I was told MinQuest upon fill (DONE)...then 2 heaping TBSP dichlor granules to sanitize (DONE).....that skyrockets the chlorine to over 10ppm, which I do NOT want to soak in...my TA is high (like over 240), and I decided since it's a chlorine stew, I may as well work on lowering that....he said if I want to use the tub real soon, I could use some pH down (pH is currently 8.2), and hit it with oxy shock....seems like it'd be against everything I'm trying to do, if I were to add chemicals just to soak quicker, then have to add more chemicals anyhow...so it looks like I MIGHT be able to take the first soak tonight.....  :-/  Hubby's out of town tonight, too....

he advised Tablespoons to kill off any cruddies that may've come over from the west coast....far be it from me to argue....  ::) I bet if I threw one of my son's shoes in the tub, that'd add enough stuff for the chlorine to glom onto, that the levels would just PLUMMET! Hmmm....  ;)

You only need to raise the chlorine to about  2-3 ppm to kill the crudies.  This is why you need to add a bit of dichlor, wait a few minutes  and test to see what you have.

Keep the cover off, and the jets going, that might bring the CL down sooner..

Post by: Tatooed_Lady on March 31, 2006, 12:58:27 pm
I'd keep the cover off, but today's a bit on the windy side...like gusts up to almost 40mph...so my day is NOT looking like a good day to gas off the chlorine, or pretty much anything else at the moment....lol...oh, well, everything else went SO smoothly (and surprised the hell out of me yesterday) that I suppose I'm due for a speed bump.....  ;)
BTW, tub's up to temp!  ;D

FWIW,  if you are dying to get in and want the levels to go down quicker, but are hesitent because of the high winds (I assume you're concerned about the cover lifter acting like a sail?  Just flip the cover half way open.

or not.

OK, here we go:

STEP 1:  Test Water- Stick finger in and say "Damn, that's cold."

STEP 2:  Add Sanitizer- Take 3 swigs of Uncle Term's All Purpose Sanitizer, scratch yourself a minute, take 2 more swigs, then pour about three fingers worth of sanitizer in spa.  Add the rest of the sanitizer to your gullet.

STEP 3:  Mix-  Grabm mixinng tooll and contiume to add sanitizere to your gullert while singingh "Jimmy Crakc Corn and I dnon't Care" until the desired effect is evitulated.

Easy as moossse crackers!!  Now you tryu!

I did the "damn, that's COLD!" thing yesterday.....46 degree water outta the tap....  :o
I tried to avoid swiggin' on the sanitizer....but I reckon if I climbed my butt in the tub right now, I'd be scratchin' all night!  ;D
I don't think I've ever had a beaver paddle.....or paddled a beaver....or something like that....I think that's against the law up here?  ???
Thanks, ya made me giggle...I did, however, have time for a nice little nap....I'm still workin' the TA thing with the acid (oh, joyful day.  :-/ ), but I'm getting antsy enough that I MIGHT just have to do the pH drop/oxy shock bit later tonight to get things in line if this is going to take all night.....but for now, I've gotta wait 3 hours to find out if TA is coming into range anyhow...so maybe I'll take up knitting.....that sounds dangerous and exciting.

Eberbody know the beaver paddle is the key to happyiness in the hottubtopia.

i noticed that you are filling that tub by inserting the hose in the filter.

I've seen those pre-fill garden hose filters for sale....does your method work in a similar manner?

does anybody use those garden hose pre-fill filters?  are they worth it?
Title: Re: Wake Up T-Lady we are dying to know
Post by: East_TX_Spa on March 31, 2006, 04:46:24 pm
The filling of the spa through the filter standpipe prevents the occurence of an airlock by flushing air out of the system.  It doesn't have anything to do with filtering out particles as the 100% No-Bypass Filtration will take care of that.

The pre-filters work great but take a long time as it restricts the water flow from the hose.

My son and I tenatively plan to get in the tub in about 45 minutes...I've had the cover half open for awhile, jets all blasting, chlorine's down quite a bit.....I'm going to do what my dealer recommended - 2oz of pH reducer about 30 minutes before soaking, and 2 oz of oxy shock right before soaking.....he said it'll let us at least try the tub instead of just sitting here LOOKING at it...then it's back to lowering the TA.....

BTW:  dihydrogen monoxide = H2O     ;D

Congrats on the arrival of your 'baby'.  You'll be in hot water soon!

Don't let all the chemistry overwhelm you.  I found out the hard way (read my 'cloudy water thread') that micromanaging your water 'levels'  leads to more problems.

I've learned to test and treat / maintain my spa chemistry once a week.  I have a bromine based spa frog system - and am in my third month with beautiful clear water!

Good luck!

Hey T-Lady, so what do you think?  After this long exciting wait...we really need your first impression! ;D
Was the tub up to temp this morning?  Who jumped in first?

NOW I can answer that question!  ;D Tub's at 101 to start out with....we spent 30-40 minutes in it  (my son and I), and I warned him ahead of time that I wanted to be the FIRST person in that tub, since my husband's not home...But he was more than welcome to join me as soon as I was up to my neck. That worked for him, since he had a few minutes remaining on some goofy tv show he was watching. ;)
The Grandee is......HUGE. *lol* No other way to describe the feeling of sitting in a 38" deep tub, with water up to your chin, while jets just BLAST you from every angle.  We played with all the valves, tested each seat, dinked around with the lights, etc. All in all, we had a good time, even though it's RAINING here and the water isn't balanced.....that'll come with time, patience, and trying HARD not to micromanage the water!!
I told my son that if he can keep quiet(ER), we can use the tub in the wee hours of the morning again....somehow I don't think I'll be up for it, though....most of my back muscles are now thoroughly relaxed, and I have warm feet for the first time in months!  :D
Somehow, I don't think anyone could complain that the '06 has 'weak' jets.....this is a "strap yourself in, fire 'em up and hold the hell on" tub!  ;D ;D

I'm jealous.

Don't worry too much about being too quiet for your neighbors. It's Friday and you just got your brand new hot tub...you're allowed to make a little noise.  Besides that, they're probably not going to say anything about the noise (fearing they'll never get invited to join in the hot tub fun if they do).

Was that your 4-legged son or the 2-legged one?
Title: Re: Wake Up T-Lady we are dying to know
Post by: Tatooed_Lady on April 01, 2006, 08:51:59 am
*LOL* that would be my 14 year old 2-legged son.... He decided that it was "boring" after half an hour...I told him it wasn't Six-Flags, he was free to get out anytime he wanted. ;) One comment he made was that it felt "funny" with one jet on his "package", one up his butt, and one on his back.....I think I may have to shock the tub again. *LOL*
Seriously though....my chlorine is FINALLY coming down...it's down to about 1ppm, I did NOT add anything after we got out of the tub, I wanted the "funk" to tie up the chemicals....the TA and pH are the only two items I need to really work with, and I guess I'll have to add a little stuff today, see if I can't get the TA to start playing nice.....without micromanaging the water.
If it doesn't come down immediately, I'll take a deep breath and say "it's not life or death, it's water....it's not life or death, it's water...." and click my heels together.
One morning soak, then time to start the "program"....
