Title: 8911 Snow Angels!  Checkout the video!
Post by: Campsalot on February 17, 2007, 09:55:04 pm
Today me, my wife, my daughter, and several friends took part in reclaiming our world record for most simultaneous snow angels made.  8920 people gathered on our state capital mall laid back in the snow and made snow angels.  I have to admit this was a lot of fun.  The Guinness people were on hand and still counting last we heard.  Check out the video:  Oh and to make this hot tub related, after the angel making we came home and soaked our cold buns!

Maybe I wasn't lookin' hard enough but I didn't see a tiger with a 12 inch tongue amongst the crowd. I call a bluff. ;)

8920 people showed up to make snow angels.

8911 people made snow angels.

Does that mean 9 people tried to make snow angels, but failed?

How do you fail to make a snow angel???

I suppose that if you forgot to move your legs, you'd make something that looked like a double-bladed snow hatchet. And if you forgot to move your arms, you'd make... a snow guppie?

Whoops!  You caught me! 8911 and one tiger with a 12" tongue!   ;)   What really makes this interesting is ND's total population is about 650,000.  Which translates to better than 10% of the total population turning out for this event.

Here is a little more information taken from The Bismarck Tribune.

Bismarck established the snow angel record in the Guinness Book of Records in 2002, when 1,791 people showed up to take part. The record survived a few attempts by residents in Syracuse, N.Y., but finally fell last year when 3,784 angels showed up in Houghton, Mich. Paul Judge, the Michigan Technological University student who organized that event, was very impressed with Bismarck’s turnout Saturday.

“It doesn’t sound like they broke it — it sounds like a smashing,” Judge said in a phone interview. “That is really awesome. Congratulations to everyone out there. Very well done.”

Neat video Camps, the last time there was enough snow on the ground around here (South Carolina) to make angels there weren't 8920 people outside. PERIOD :-[
In our youth (Illinois), DW and I made enough angels to create our own 'heavenly choir'.

Great community spirit, congratulations ND. :-*

Must be an American calculation, in Canada that would be just over 1%.

Crap!  Thats funny.  It is better than 1% not 10%. I claim the early morning hour for my lack of mathematical precision!  LOL!

In MOST of America (North and South) it's just over 1%.  North Dakota must have their own mathematical system.  I recall a system of calculating called 'Chismbob' or something similar where you used your fingers to 'sypher'.  Must be so cold Camps couldn't take his mittens off. :D

That's still huge......we are talking tongue right.......and width right....., ,that would be 30cm if 12" and 20cm if 8".....everything always sounds bigger in Canada.
