In a fit of ignorance on my part, I had shut down power to my hot tub Monday morning to do some service work.
Today, I go out to get a nice soak in and the temp reads 99 degrees (Usually keep it at 103). Perplexed at first, then I realized I forgot to restore power!
I am IMPRESSED. The tub only lost 4 degrees in 48 hours. Outside temps were 9 degrees overnight and 28 -30 during the days.
No wonder Marquis is so highly rated!

Reminds me of when I came home from vacation a few weeks ago. I let my brother watch the house, and I am sure his kids used the hot tub and played with the buttons.
It was set to summer mode. :P

I had to look this up but if you have a Marquis, try this (from page 33 of their 2005 Owner's Manual):
SYSTEM LOCK
Once you find and establish the settings that work best
for your individual needs, use system lock to keep from
inadvertently changing the settings.
Press the TEMP+- pad and then immediately press the
SETTING pad. Unlock by repeating sequence. While the
system is locked, you may still operate the jets and light.
The LCD window displays LC to indicate the system is
locked when you try to change the temperature or
settings.
Hmm.... I'll have to set this up on mine tonight. My daughter's friends are coming over to use it... ::)

Thanks Phil. the Tiger river does indeed have a lock feature. It's pretty easy to do. I should have used it, but figured it could cause more confusion than not. Luckly the spa control panel had an idoit light on it telling me something was up. I was concerned as the tub wasn't heating and the bubbles weren't comming through the outlet vent. "Oh-oh. I thought. It's Mid feb and I've got a probelm. Luckly it was a user error. Not as bad as keeping the power off... but for a second a sinking feeling came over me.

Several years back Marquis put their tubs in freezer rooms and exposed them to extreme temperatures, they then used infrared to see where heat was leaving the spa. As a result, they developed solutions for every area of heat loss, for instance the linear heat seal that seals the center seam of the DuraCover. Imagine if you would have left the heat off in your house since Monday, how many degrees would it have dropped inside?

Here's the thing, I don't use my spa (epic) daily right now and I have tried turning the heat down to 90 deg to check the heat loss. Four to five degrees over night is common right now or about ten degrees in 24 hours. Based on this amount, I figure that it heats about two hours per day in this weather.
My calculation as follows.
Five degrees per hour rise when heating.
Five kW heater.
Electricity $0.12 per kWh
2 X 5 X 0.12 = $1.20 per day heating
filter cost
motor in low speed - 3 amps X 240 V = 720 W or 0.72 kW
4 hours per day filtering
4 X .72 X 0.12 = 0.35
Cost to run per day when not bathing = $1.55 CAD

I'd actually have expected it to perform better than a 10º loss in 24 hrs and almost $50/month CAD without any use seems high as well, not the same as Snyper indicated in his initial post.

To add one thing further, I added a double sheet of paper (like cardboard) to the back side of the acces panel in November.

Yeah, a HotSpring woulda GAINED a few degrees...
