Title: I have a cold
Post by: cheres on January 23, 2006, 08:23:07 pm
This might be a dumb question, but do you guys use the spa when you are sick?  I have a cold right now, with stuffy, runny nose, and sneezing.  If I get in the tub will it releive my conjestion or just make it worse?  The temperature outside is between 50 during the day and 30 at night.
What would you all do?  ???

My husband refused to get in the tub when he was sick... I still got in and I thought it made me feel a lot better.  I just had to be careful as I got dizzy easier and had a bit of trouble when I was getting out.  I definately would not avoid the tub just because I had a cold.

The spa always makes my cold feel better.  Makes no difference how cold it is.  Seems like it draws the nasty stuff right out of me.  I throw in a little extra chlorine when I'm done, though.

Sure use the tub, just don't use it with others, the hot moist air is condusive to spreading bugs back and forth.

Turn the heat up all the way and cook the cold.  Stop by a spa store and pick up some spazazz eucalyptus salts.  It smells just like vicks vapo rub.  It's great cold therapy.

Thank you all for the encouragement.  I'll try it. 8)

Unless your nose is "dripping" or some other bodily fluid is "oozing", I would think that a nice warm soak in the tub would make you feel better.

I agree that  a hot soak is great when you have a cold.

It can take the chill out of you, espically for chest colds or if your kidneys ache. A nice hot soak can help relive any aches and the steam can help clear up any congestion.

It's great.

Like JMcD said, use the spa with some Eucalyptus aromatherapy and it will help give you some relief.

When my father caught the flu a couple of years ago, he would get in his HS Jetsetter 10-12 times a day using the Eucalyptus crystals.  It was the only relief he could find that worked.

I hope you get to feeling better soon. :)

I suggest a nice hot soak and Drambuie straight up....12 yr. old Scotch mixed with heather honey.....great combination for both the throat and head.....and after a few, you could care less about the cold!  More effective than Nyquil and tastes a helluva lot better! 8)

I have noticed, seriously, that a good shot of tequila really can help nip a cold in the bud if you get it early enough.

There's also nothing like a good soak - just make sure you stay in long enough to not feel chilled when you get out.

Well, I tried it  with the eucalytus scent and I really feel better.  I should have asked you guys sooner.  I have some tequila around here somewhere.  I'll try that next.   ::)

I didn't know I had the cure right in my backyard.  I am going back in.  Check ya later. Thanks!

Doctor Spa told me once that he turned the heat up and soaked for twenty minutes - I think there might have been another ingredient or two - and that it tended to end his cold pretty much on the spot.

Andy? Any input?

there should never be any doubt as to where the tequila is.

The old timers woudl always tell me to get a fifth of Ginger brandy, squeeze  1 whole lemon in it . Drink.  They'd claim it would sweat the cold out of you.

I admit I did try this one time when I had a nasty cold. When I  finnally awoke...I did feel better. However, I couldn't imagine drinking that much and be in a hot tub with a head cold. I'd be passed out on the bottom of the tub.  ::)

FWIW,

When I had a NASTY sinus infection last year, the Doctor actually told me to get into the spa (with some Eucalyptus) and that would help to loosen up some of the congestion.

I questioned going in with a fever - 101.  He stated that the water temp at 101 would not drive it up - so not to worry.

AS with all things - follow your own doctor's advice.  BTW - it made me feel better.

Can't wait to get my next cold, heck why wait.
