Title: Meteor shower tonight
Post by: Bonibelle on December 13, 2005, 08:11:37 am
I saw a beautiful shooting star the other night while soaking with my family.  No one else saw it so they were a bit disappointed. It looks like everyone can have a chance to see a whole meteor shower tonight.
The Geminid meteor shower should be visible late tonight into early tomorrow morning. Of course we will we watching during the full moon so only the brightest meteors will be visible! How awsome to watch from the comfort of your tub!!! :)

Hey Boni,

I saw 15 meteors during my 30 minute soak this morning between 6 and 6:30.....crystal clear, 42 degrees and not a hint of wind.  I'm planning to get up at 5:30 tomorrow morning and give it another shot.  Gotta luv those early morning soaks!  Go Geminids!

.Sunnydee, You should be able to see it. It is supposed to be a pretty big meteor shower.  The one that I saw the other night was really bright in spite of the moon.
Windsurfdog, where are you located?

The sky?  I thought that was closed for repair every year from Nov-March.

On the northern coast of Florida just south of Tallahassee.  I'll definitely get in a soak late tonight and early tomorrow a.m.

Merry Meteors!

Soaked from about 5:40 to 6:30 this a.m.  Saw 20 meteors plus saw 3 satellites, 2 of which flared very nicely.  What a way to start the day! 8)

A satellite generally appears as a small point of light that is moving across the sky.  Depending on the type of satellite, it may only be a small point of light or it may appear to glow brightly (flare) and then fade or possibly flare, dim, flare, dim, etc.  Those that flare usually have a flat shiny surface (antenna(e), solar panel(s)) that, when oriented just right, will reflect sunlight like a mirror.  Usually when you see the flare, dim, flare, dim scenario, it is a satellite tumbling.  The most impressive tumbling satellite I've seen was the MIR on the day before it reentered the atmosphere and burned.....it was real impressive.  8)
