Title: Skiing and tubbing
Post by: wmccall on December 11, 2005, 12:31:53 pm
Today was the first time this year where several hours of downhill skiing followed by a 30 minute soak at 104 with the steady snow still falling.  This is what it is all about.

...followed by a plate of nachos, a great beer, and a roaring fire.  I'm with you, wmccall!  That's my idea of a perfect day ;D  Enjoy yourself!!

Nothing hot tub related beats what you described.  I've done the same at Breckenridge, although not in a "personal" hot tub.  Didn't matter.  It was all good.  At those altitudes though, water, unfortunately, does you better than beer..........unless you want a mammoth headache from altitude and dehydration.  Learned that the hard way.

I get up to Sunday River in Bethal, Maine every year.  The chalet has access to a an outside heated pool and a large hot tub. Taking a soak after skiing is fantastic. It warms you to the bone, and relaxs those sore muscles.

I have to admit though, the past few years of having my own hot tub, I'm not so excited anymore with those large comunity hot tubs. Lord knows what the water quality is and the therapy/jets  leaves alot to be desired. Still  our ski group always looks forward to the First night hot tub soak.  :)

My first ski trip to Breckenridge was at the Marriott condos off peak 10, I think.  We were in college and rented a couple condos which had a Hot Tub surrounded by a snow bank which held our keg nicely.  We would dive in the bank and then the tub.  Great memories.

I'd just as soon cut off my hand and beat myself to death with it as to have to listen to what the dinner conversation would be like in that home.

I visited Breckenridge 10 years ago.  I went there with a few buddies for the week to ski.  I stayed an extra 51 weeks.  The next winter I wanted to rent a spa for the ski season, no one in Summit County did hot tub rentals.  So I started my own business.  Here I am 10 years later with 4 retail hot tub and billiards stores.

Au contraire, I would consider it an honor to break bread and wind with spaman and his family.

Tubbing is the only thing that makes skiing bearable anymore for me.

It's awful, but I live 45 minutes from the Canadian Rockies, and some of the best skiing in the world, and I'm lucky if I get out once a year.

That's part of the problem though....your legs just aren't use to the beating they take.

Isn't that just the skits!

I try to go downhill skiing a few times a year with my kids. It seems like yesterday when I was picking them up putting their boots back on and snapping them into their skis at least 200 times per child per day.

In the last few years they've left me in the dust. The worst thing about it is, I've spent so much time on the bunny slopes with them teaching them the basics I've actually lost my nerve. I spend the whole day bargening with my higher power to let me make it through this run without breaking something.

Being a flatlander from North Dakota I've cross country skied for most of my life. There is nothing that makes me feel more alive than a great day of cross contry skiing and a long soak in my hottub.

At my age, I wouldn't be able to ski if I couldn't follow it with a long soak.
