I am in need of a replacement cover for my 2001 Marquis Spirit Spa. I have narrowed down my choices to RHTubs and The Cover guy in Canada. Both seem to have some very good products. Both products seem to be similar in construction, features, and price.
I really learned a tremendous amount of information from the RHtubs website, and I think he is a senior poster on this site as well. This alone is kind of steering me in his direction. I live in Northern Virginia. We have relatively mild winters.
The Cover guy seems to have a few of the features that the RHtub site has as options, such as a reflective heat lining and 2 lb foam density. But, he is in Ontario CA and it seems like it will take 4 weeks to get the cover. I am in no rush though, as the cover I have will tide me over till the new one arrives.
RHTUbs has the continuous seal, which to me, is a better design over the "Fingers" that I belive the cover guy uses.
Just wanted to see what you folks thought.
Thanks

All I can say is that in every dealing I have had with Dr. Spa of Robert's Hot Tubs, he has exceeded my expectations. I would not hesitate to do business with him. I have not heard of the other company.
Good luck with whichever way you decide to go. :)

Have you not checked with your local marquis dealer? or called Marquis Corporation??? They would be able to help you order a replacement cover!

My guess is he did, and after the sticker shock wore off, looked for a more reasonable alternative on-line.
Rotigers, I would bet that most of us try our dealers first for aftermarket purchases, but some end up on-line because their dealer's mark-ups are excessive for the service provided.

Ok, this is a set up right? There's no comparison! Well, or at least they list no specifics to compare with.

How do you come to this conclusion? Again, they list very few specifics to make a comparison to.

ummmmm, when you get to the ordering page, the Energy Sheild is actually an up charge (if you order it from them let me know so I can send you a sample to compare with what you actually receive).
PLEASE point me to where you found something indicating their cover is a standard 2 lb. foam. All their site says is "highest density".

Seeing what Doc offeres for the money, shipping included, I know where I'll be getting my replacement cover when the time comes.
-
Buy it from Doc!
He's got great prices and great customer service.
-
Buy it from Doc because....................well...............because he's the Doc

I got to see Doc at the Las Vegas Show, a few weeks back. It was pleasure meeting him and I was impressed with his spa covers, super heavy duty, should be a really good snow load cover. Hey Vinny, how much snow did you get last night, up there in the central part of the state. Down here in South Jersey, we ended up with only about 4" of really heavy wet snow. A good night to kick back and go for a soak in the tub. Dave.
-
Hey I'm by Trenton so ... about 4 inches of heavy wet snow ... same as you! ;D
I actually was disappointed as I want to go tubbing in the snow - it keeps snowing way past my bedtime!

Soakin is right. I first went to my local Marquis dealer. He no longer keeps them in stock due to space contraints. He wanted $490 bucks drop shipped to my house. Wow! A bit on the steep side. He tried to sell me on the fact that it could hold an elephant. I don't know about you guys, but I don't know too many elephants, let alone one's that would want to sit on my hot tub cover.
I got the information first off of ebay and then I checked out the coverguys website. Here is an what was written on ebay (I checked his website and I see the 2lb density is not listed. http://www.thecoverguy.ca/store/product_info.php?products_id=183&osCsid=0e73905d4550973ddb37b6a6e9451616 This falls in line with what the Doc just mentioned) Here is the URL, but you can just do a search on Spa cover and you will see that the cover guy is all over the place.

This is what is posted
Cover construction:
4 x 3 Tapered for rain, snow & ice runoff
The foam we use is coated and wrapped 2lb foam densitywhich can withstand heavey loads including harsh snowfalls, children and animals
We have a new technology for minimal water absorbstion, which means our covers do not get waterlogged like some other manufactured covers
We use only high grade marine vinyl
Strong aluminum stiffener down centre for added strength
New reflective backing to keep heat inside and energy saving
Our stitching is all reinforced
4 lockable straps for security
finished off with a 3 year warranty
What I can tell you is this, I was very impressed with the side by side comparison that the Doc set up. No one else does this! I am new to Hot tubs and didn't have a clue as where to start. After reading the Doc's site I felt educated. I want to make the most informed decision possible.
I was leaning towards RHTUBs anyway. Anyone who will put that much effort into building a site like his, is probably selling a quality product. The fact that others have met him personally and give the thumbs up also says a lot. Word of mouth is a powerful thing.
It is very difficult to find accurate information sometimes. This is one of the reasons why I like this and other forums I visit. You get real people with real opinions. Not just a bunch of marketing material.

MonkeyBrain,
Don't believe this at all! There's plenty of marketing material around and brain washing people. The internet is a great place for info and on some things (tubs and cars for example) it's a starting point.
Although I haven't bought a cover from Doc, I have bought my first set of supplies from him and have had another reason to deal with him and I stand by my comments that he has great prices and great customer service!
I will say that whenever my cover goes, I will be buying one from Doc. It looks like a nice product and reading the things he has written about his production, it sounds like a first class operation!
Good Luck!
Vinny

I have one friend with a 2 year old cover he got from RH. He is happy. It looks good. Are you in Canada? I'm not sure how much that would be a factor for pricing on either.
-
Marquis has there covers made by this company.

The rubber ducky that I bought from doc is of the highest quality, and was promptly shipped...the cover lifter I bought from him was pretty good too.

The good people at Roberts are fine folks to deal with. I do not think you can go wrong with them , the shipping might be a bit more money.

Thanks for all the feedback. I have decided to go with Doc. I still have one question. I have the measurements for the cover as 84" by 60" I am having a bit of trouble with the radius. I flipped my old cover and did the newspaper trick to where you measure from where the newspaper disappears. I get a little over 14 inches. I called marquis themselves and they told my the radius corner was 17" for the cover. Any thoughts?
Thanks again

Go over to Docs forum and ask him. Or send him an e-mail. Or....just call him.
