Title: Are you at work?
Post by: Chad on January 03, 2007, 03:53:43 pm
I'm curious how many people here post while they're at work? or even just lurk?

I'm actually supposed to be doing inventory, been working on it 3 days.  All I have to do is count the number of spas in the showroom.  That should give you a pretty good idea just how lazy I am.

I'm usually checking and responding while at work.
Too many things going on at home to have time to check the forum!  ;D

New home construction has really slowed down the past month or so here in St. Louis, so I 've been home alot. :( Luckily I have till the end of April to pay my tub off with 0% interest. After that it jumps to 28%. :o It better pick up soon. :-/

I'm probably about to get fired.  They sent the office manager from our Tyler store to do the inventory at mine, unannounced.  She did the whole thing in 2 hours, even with me harassing her.  Every time someone around here gets fired, the office manager shows up without warning. :'(

I'm up a creek...so to speak.

Do most IT departments look for folks surfing the internet on the job? I bet some of the logs are very interesting.

New housing construction has slowed down everywhere.  Gear yourself towards remodel/commercial.  If you're union, you can always call the hall.

P.S. ... You do many mud walls in new houses,in your area:?

Yes, but only in a couple of the higher-end subdivisions. We do about 26 subs for 3 different builders. Mainly houses in the 2500-4000 sqft range. Their just not selling right now. >:(

First of all, thank you for your kindly consternations, I appreciate it.

Secondly, HotSpring has nothing to do with it.  East Texas Spa is a dealer of HotSpring Spas, the world's #1 selling brand of portable spa and the industry leader for over 20 years.  I am but a salesman for East Texas Spa, the premier spa dealer in East Texas and Northwest Louisiana with 3 locations to serve you.  I personally sold 153 spas last year for our company, and while that is considered to be a fair dinkum amount of spas, it is only one-half of my job description.  It's the other half that I have evidently failed at, and failed miserably. :-[

Well Term, we are about to have our best year since 2005. So, we are in need of sales folk. We would never trust - er, uh, - require our sales folk to count spas. In fact, we supply computers for them to do their sales on so they don't have to add. We hire recent immigrants to count the spas.

I certainly do appreciate the offer Chas.  Hopefully this will all blow over without me having to go postal, something I've been preparing for over the course of several years.

I am especially intrigued by your newly revealed gun-friendly attitude, which would be an absolute necessity for anyplace that employs me....if they know what's good for them.  Thanks!

As I have personally suggested before, Term, I think you have so many under-used talents that  you could have multiple careers!
Your creativity, not only with the photos and cartoons, but also with your writing...are really being wasted....I see you as the next Dave Barry...or even better. So if you are being serious (which I really doubt that you are), there is a whole world out there that would very much appreciate your humor and talent! AND I am not being nice, I am being serious!  ;)

Nope,  I only have two customers that check and/or filter net traffic.  The only time we in the IT dept care is if we start getting viruses and spyware attacks.   Then we care.

On that server,it won't let me direct uplink :(   I could put em in a file with Verizon, which is my new provider, but, haven't fiddled with it as of yet.

Here's the link to the pics I have on that 1 site.....

I have tons of other pics saved on my wifes puter lol.  I just started takin pics of my work like 2-3 years ago. Not all of it,but take em now n then. Haven't really needed em as my work and my contacts sell itself. We'll see how far that goes,in this day n age lol. Lots of "good" mechanics in my area are sitting at home currently....I have a strange feeling this country is heading towards a mild depression....which ironically....will come during election time ;)

Thanks for the link. You do some good work. I have to admit I've never seen someone cut the dots out after they set the field tile. I know some setters that set the dots the day after setting the clipped corner, field tile but never like that. I like to set everything as I go. 2 each their own. :)
Also, I didn't see a curb for the shower? It's code here in MO that a shower has to have a 4 in. curb, even on walk-in showers. You can not set the shower door directly on the floor. Do you work alone or do you have a helper?

I cut the 3"(smaller dots) dots/clipped corners in all the field, prior to installing.  Was easier for me verses clipping the 3 and 4 inch dots all at the same time, esp as it's on the 45/diag(easier to mark/make cuts against cabinets etc.)

Here in Fl the code for shower pans is dictated by the drain. Drain has to be 2" below finsh grade.  I might have a pic of the BR finished somewhere. It has a glassblock opening, which attached to the jamb.

I came from Cal bout 7 years ago.....was union trained etc. They do things a little different here in FL,compared to Cal ;)

Currently it's just me and a helper. I downsized bout 3 years ago,and I'm a happy worker these days, that sleeps like a baby at night ;)

P.S. ... I too was taught to set everything as you go,and I agree with ya on that 1 !!

Terminator (the Lackadaisical)

Something similar happened at a computer retail store I used to be the GM of back in the mid 90's.  Turned out that the owner was collecting details so that he could sell the business to someone else.  I made my salary and a small commision that year and he collected about 5.5 million (8.5 million less debt of 3mil).  Not faulting him as he worked for a number of years to build the business and mine was only one of threee stores but it still sucked that he didn't give us any bonuses associated with our performance suporting the buyout.  I took a store that had dropped to 3 disgruntled employees and only generating about 1 million in sales and when the buyout occurred, I had just done 4 million in sales and had 13 employees and we we on track for 11 million the next year (The year I left becuase the new company was even stingier than the prior owner had been).  Hope thing go the right direction for you and if it is a buyout I hope your owner "shares" the wealth with the ones that brought him" thus far!
