Title: timer question for the ole HS Sovereign
Post by: st18901 on November 16, 2005, 05:14:05 pm
questions, questions and more questions.

on my 1986 HS sovereign, the conrtol pack seems very basic.

Three knobs - Auto Heat/jets  light dimmer and heat  cold to hot (no actual temp)

Inside, the pack has a timer type wheel. I can crank clockwise by hand, and it also does turn on its own.

My questions: what does it turn on and off? What function is set with it? Is it adjustable?

Do any of you fine dealers have a manual for a 1986'ish HS Sovereign?

I've been looking through some of our tech software, but I'm not having much luck.  Closest thing I can find is that maybe it's a timer for the light or the heater.  I'll keep looking, just been really busy today.

Thanks for any info you find.

I don't think it's for the light, though the heater seems more on the money. I'm hoping it's for a filtration cycle of some sort, as the thermostat could do the heater job...  ???

You can go to the HotSpring website and send a request to customer service.  They'll get you one. :)

That tub doesn't have round-the-clock filtration, so the timer turns on the jet pump for filtration.

Once per day, 15 minutes is usually fine.

Thanks, Chas.

Now - how do I know when it's supposed to turn on?
Do you know how to set the timer?

well, I figured the timer out - simple enough and just like any normal timer. Little pins you push up and down for the times you want it to turn on and off. What threw me was that none of them had been set  so I had no way of seeing a "demo". I was a little nervous to push against one - seeing as I didn't fully know if it was a pin or just a plastic knob.
Anyway, this seems to indicate that either the previous owner was really secretive and anal and put all the pins back into the off position before getting rid of the tub ??? or the timer was never used. Hm.

Most likely the latter: it can be a PIB because you have to open the door to the motor compartment to reset it after a power failure or after unplugggin the spa for water change.

Also - it overides the jet button: if your jets are on and the timer clicks on, you suddenly will not be able to turn the jets OFF. But, of course, you will punch the jets button a few times - which may leave it in the ON position. When this happens (notice I didn't say IF) you have to wait for fifteen minutes and then check to be sure the jets are not still running after the timeclock clicks off.

I will freely admit that this 'feature' was not well thought through, so most people do not set any time on the timer. Just use the thing regularly and you should be fine.
