So how much room does one need to get a spa between a gate opening? Is an inch or 2 gonna be enough? If I can remove the iron gate from the brick then I've got 41" (the J-385 is 38" I believe). Other problem is about a foot after the gate I've got a 3 or 4" diameter drain plug sticking up about 2 inches from the concrete about 2 inches in from the left side. Hope that makes sense.

My tub with packaging was 40", the gate was 41" and the entire length of the house (36 ft)was only 42" between house and fence. There was no problem, air tires on the dolly raised the tub up over 6" off ground.

Thanks Rayman.
For some reason I thought we had a 44" gate so when I measured it this morning I was a bit surprised.
-
not sure about the j-385, Marquis guidlines is 38" and their tubs are 35.5" deep also minimum with a head clearance of 7-10 feet. hope that helps.
so, does this question mean you are getting a spa??
-
Not yet.. just checking out all the details. Still trying to get bids on moving companies and wiring. Nobody returns calls.
-
The Jacuzzi site confirms that the 385 is 94 x 94 x 38, which will leave you 1.5" on each side through the gate. Be aware of any hinges that may be sticking out after taking the gate off. You may have to remove the entire hinge from the brick.
-
You usually want to add 2" to the depth of the spa for your gate clearance. Most gates accomodate but not always. Sometimes people have to remove the gate altogether along with a post. Sometimes they simply remove some of the outer wrapping when it's tight and it slips through by a hair. It helps when they are experienced delivery people but the reality is you need to be patient and take it slow.

To give me the 41, that is completely removing the gate from the brick... I dunno how difficult it would be to do. On the other side of the house I have two gates to deal with and they are more narrow, one is wood and if I push hard enough it would just fall over, lol. The other is metal and is concreted in. :(
Got my first bid for moving... $500 for 90 miles. Thats not as bad as I expected. They are fully insured and whatnot. Now I need to get a bid on wiring, so I know how much to negotiate on the spa to get within my budget.

as far as wiering goes, measure the distance from the main panel to where the disconnect is going, then to where the spa is to be placed. figure about $7/foot. if its over 100 feet, the wire will need be up-sized. that is about $1/ft more. if you have to get your own disconnect, $80 at lowes/home depot. cheaper than having it supplied by the elctrician.
this is just a rough estimate, i know cost of wire has juped the last week or so. hope this helps

Well, I'm wrong... imagine that. I've got 38.5" at the narrowest spot. I measured where the gate was before, but forgot that the top has bricks 'cap' in so to speak and stick out further. Don't think thats gonna work.

Get a crane.
Delivery is already $500... crane will add what $300... ouch! I'm evetually putting in a new fence, I think I'd rather see how hard it would be too tear down the existing medal one.

Boudreaux and Leroix were de bestest of friends and lived in a shack on one side of de Atchafalaya River. Der arch enemy Clarence lived on de udder side. Clarence would always be doin' mean tings to Boudreaux and Leroix: stealin' der mudbugs, ringin' der chickens necks, cuttin' der trotlines. He would always be doin' dis deviltry in de dark of night.
When de sun come up, Clarence was always back on his side of de river.
Finally, Boudreaux had had his last straw. "Ima goin' to go over de Atchafalaya Bridge and kick Clarence smack dab in his ass!"
"You go get 'im Boudreaux. Kick him in de ass but good!"
So Boudreaux headed to de bridge to go kick de fire out of Clarence's behind.
'Bout 10 minutes later, Boudreaux comes slinkin' back to his and Leroix's house wif his tail betwixt his legs.
"Boy, dat didn't take take long. Did he put up much of a fight?"
"Leroix, I didn't go. I got down der to dat bridge and on it was a sign dat said "Clearance: 8 feet 6 inches". If Clarence be 8 and a half feet tall, he welcome to all de mudbugs he want!"

Don't know your exact layout, however, you may be able to take a steel chisel and simply knock off the offending bricks at the morter joint and then morter in some new ones after the move. Just a thought!

Thats what we thought of last night. I think thats are best plan.
