I'm not sure if it's new or I never noticed it before, but it seems like ever since the weather cooled off there is a humming noise coming from my tub.
It isn't irregular or particularly loud, and the closest I can describe it is like the fridge running.
Just to check, I shut the breaker off and restarted the tub and it is still there. I am assuming it is the circ pump but just wanted to see what kind of feedback I would get.
Oh yeah, everything is working great like the ozonator, jets etc and nothing is overheating.

Shipping screws on the pumps?
Most spas are shipped with the pumps screwed into the structure. Many installers do not remove them. this could be the source of the hum.
-
So the hum is abnormal? Is it something that can cause harm?
Is normal operation generally silent? You can only hear the hum faintly unless you put your ear close to the cabinet.
-
it could be as simple as your pack humming......just by vibration....
-
Great answers but I'm still trying to figure out how much, if any, humming is normal? I never remember any.
-
Could be the impeller in the circ pump getting out of balance. I've had that happen on a couple of floor models. I whacked it with a screwdriver handle and it stopped. I don't suggest you try that method as I am a highly trained spa expert.

Thanks everyone. I will call the tech to come out since I am still on warranty. This should be covered right??

Phillips head or slotted?
-
Besides Phillips or Slotted I find some brands better at "adjustments" than others. Then if all else fails, I find a ball pien hammer makes for a nice 'fine adjustment tool'.
-
Just for grins turn the heat down and unplug the circ pump while the spa is running....Could be nothing more than a ground wire setting up against a control box.
-
So in conclusion, do you guys hear any humming at all when you are near the tub or is it silent when not running?
-
I can hear my circ pump running. It is a faint noise that you could call a humming. It is not dead silent, but barely noticable. An ozonator might make a faint hum.
-
I hear humming with my tub. The circ pump hos a huge 240 V 48 frame motor. I would think it will hum. I also heard that tubs are a little noisier on a deck than on the ground (this is my case).
As has been said either here or on Doc's site - the quietest tubs are the ones without circ pumps when their not running. It would make sense that any motor emits a slight hum, either mechanical or electrical.

Thank you very much Vinny. That's what I was looking for. I appreciate the cause and cure replies, but I was cleaning the shell and noticed the humming and thought it was new, but I guess it wasn't. I was nearly positive it was the circ pump but still have someone coming to check it out.

Ours humms as well. I just took that as normal since there is a pump running. As soon as you turn the jets on you can't hear the humm anymore. ;)
