We test soaked in a Marquis Epic today. My husband and kids were not only excited about the tub , they also loved the audio system. Marquis calls it Soundsations. I guess I am a real dummy because my son insists that the sound system is speakers contained in the cabinet that would use a remote system to transfer the music from our stereo to the speakers. I can't clarify this on the website. Can anyone tell me exactly how this works.
Thanks

HI...sorry to be short. I am on the way out the door but your son is right.......
-
The Marquis system is speakers or at least the Electronic part of the speakers are attached to the actual wall of the tub so that the tub itself acts like the "cone" part of the speaker. You wire it to your stereo system of your house. there is not a cd/radio that comes with it.

I'll expand on what Mendo didnt have time to say.
".... your son is right...about that."

;D You're such a dork!
So can this be done wireless as well or do you need to wire from the tub to the home stereo?

When I first started looking at tubs, I thought I wanted a sound system. After seeing the extra $$$$$, I started to think about it. Many people in here say just to get a boombox and save your $$$ (no matter what brand of tub was it was). Now that I have one, I'm not sorry I didn't get the stereo. I LOVE music but hearing the outside sounds, talking to my wife, and quiet soaking are more relaxing to us. If your tub is close to the house a good pair of outside speakers is an option. The Soundsations is wired to your home theater system. As far as I'm aware, it is NOT wireless.
How did the actual wet test go? Was the Epic a good fit for you and the family? Inquiring minds want to know! :D ;)
Good luck in your search.

Can I hook up my new IPod to this system? ;D THAT would be a cool concept. MY IDEA! No STEALING! >:(
GAWD I love toys!

The option comes with either 100 feet or 200 feet of speaker wire. I thought that the Hot Springs version sounded worse than a ten dollar radio and since my Marquis dealer didn't have it on the model I wet tested, I decided to save my money.
Good Luck - and don't listen to your kids on this one.

We had so much fun wet testing the Epic. We actually spent 3 hours at the dealer. Everyone was thrilled with how it fit each of us. The kids were in agreement that this would be [glb]The[/glb] Christmas present, so I knew they really were impressed. MY 14 year old was especially impressed with the Tri-zone hydrotherapy and just about had it all figured out before we got out. I really liked that I had a perfect fit in multiple areas. My husband loved the neck jets (all three sets!) Yes, there was some splashing and noise by the neck jets when empty seats were cranked up but that was not a negative to us. and you had the option ot divert the flow from those jets when they weren't being used. I did tend to float a bit out of the adirondeck chair but by decreasing the flow on the calf jets, I was fine. No one else floated (guess I have the highest body fat index).Being short folks, we found that we could actually hold on to the right side (access door facing front) and kick our feet and do a little water exersize) I guess the point that I am making is this tub is so versatile. I was really the one pushing for a hot tub because I need the hydrotherapy, suddenly my whole family has found something that the the hot tub could provide! Our sales person was exceptional. She has an Epic at home and so she really knows the ins and outs of it. I would say that a very knowledgable sales person is key before considering this tub. She suggested that we also test the U530 (around $7500.) Although the Epic was only 6 incles larger, there seemed to be so much more room than in the U530. The foot well in the Epic was larger and the arrangement of the seats allowed us all to be comfortable without touching each other. I liked the controls on the inside of the tub and the kids picked up really fast on the floating remote (I can just see the fights now..) Then we heard the sound system. Oh my gosh...My husband was so impressed. I guess I was in kind of a daze but I went along with him and agreed to get it. When my son tried to explain how it worked at home, I had second thoughts. Now I am not sure that the phenominal sound (and believe me it was impressive) is because the remote sound system is so good or because the speakers are so well balanced. Maybe both! I have to admit, it sounded fantastic. I will call my sales person today and clarify all of this but I appreciate all of your help, it settled our arguments last night. Remember, we only wet tested two tubs but since everyone was very happy, we found no negatives, and since I have been looking for 2 years...we picked the Epic. Thank you all for your help. ;D

Who are you calling a dork? Dork. ;D

Who are you calling a dork? Dork. ;D
This is like Lenny calling Squiggy a Dork!!!

I get to be Lenny. lol ;D

I get to be Lenny. lol ;D
I'll bite, who are Lenny and Squiggy?
-
From "Happy Days" and "Laverne and Shirley."
-
I'll bite, who are Lenny and Squiggy?
Wow, you are young. They're the idiot neighbors in the show Laverne & Shirley.
-
To avoid the "OK, who are Laverne & Shirley:" ;D
Laverne and Shirley was a TV show on in the 70's.
Yep, sarcasm is a wonderful thing.

Remids me of a few years ago when a bunch of employees kept hovering around the sales desk at the store I was working at. I told them one day that if they didnt stop, I would put tape around it on the floor and make them knock first. They just stood there. So I said "You know, like Les Nessman." and one of them said "Who's Les Nessman?" I said never mind.
-
knock knock knock!!! ;D

You do have to connect it directly to your receiver. It also helps to have a nice receiver with the adequate watts per channel (60-120) But once it's hooked up, you have the ability to control TV, radio, CD, VCR, satellite, etc. via radio frequency remote floating inside spa. I think you can hook-up ipod if I'm not mistaken. Transducers ARE attached to spa shell. I agree that for $700 - $1,000 it would be worth the extra investment on a $9,000+ spa. The Dolphin kit Marquis sells would also work for outdoor speakers around a patio or pool.
-
Ha, you guys are funny!
Ok Salesdvl..I got a call the other day from my cousin who is a teacher. His students wanted to know who the Farkle Family was...bet you don't know that one...or do you remember James Brown in the Hot Tub? Thought of him this morning while I was arguing with my husband over the sound system in the Epic!
-
Ok, I've heard of Laverne and Shirley... I've got a vague recollection of an ugly sweater with an L on it, but thats as far as my memory goes.
Les who?
Hey next to SDGuy I'm old. :)

Thanks Kyle,
I guess I underestimated my husband. He claims now that he realized that our indoor system could be connected and that we had adequate wattage to drive the speakers. I think he also realized we could listen to the Eagles out there too, ::) probably by playoff time..... I guess he was hoping I didn't analyze the whole thing since it was expensive

Sorry Kyle but I have to disagree here. I would take that &700-$1000 and invest it into a home theater system. I would get a much more use out of that $$$ indoors. Compare the time you're in the tub to the time you spend indoors and the price just isn't worth it, imo.
Bonnie,
You're buying a HOT TUB, not a stereo. Just keep that in mind and think about how much you'll use the Soundsations. If it's worth the extra $$$ to you, go for it.
-
I could use that $$$ for site prep, but you have to understand my husband loves his music. He has speakers and wires running all over our decks. When he heard the sound in the filled hot tub, he just was amazed. I know it is a lot of money but to be honest, he enjoys the music outside far more than inside. We live in Pa, south west of Philadelphia. It was really chilly the other night and there he was out on the deck with a glass of wine sitting in a beach chair listening to the Temptations, (how's that for oldies?) I tried to talk him out of this once I understood how it worked, but he really wants it. We are out in the burbs a bit with all sorts of wildlife all over and I was worried about critters getting under the tub, heck he can just blast them out with his music!
-
What if you already have a nice home theatre system? And if you did not have one and eventually bought a nice system, I think it would be nice to listen to talk radio, a self-help CD, etc. Hey, how about listening to a waterfall or thunderstorm recording on a sunny day. Waterfalls generally work poorly anyway with 3 or more people in the spa. I'd rather have a nice stereo than a waterfall.

Ok, I confess. I had to google the Farkle Family. I do remember Laugh In but was pretty young at that time. And I liked Fire Marshall Bill and the Fly Girls better. ;)

Hey Bonnie,
Don't get me wrong, I think the Soundsations is fantastic. I just couldn't justify the extra $$$ but hey, everyone's different. I was just giving you some food for thought. :) Don't worry about the critters. The Epic has a soild bottom. I don't think they could under the spa.
Get the Epic with the Soundsations, you'll LOVE it! ;D

Bonibelle...we got the soundsations also. We haven't taken delivery of our Epic...still working on the outdoor setup/landscaping.
We have a great stereo inside and we'd like to use it, but our hot-tub is going to be a good distance from it. We're still trying to figure out how we're going to connect it. My husband says we need to get a receiver instead?? I guess we'll figure it out when we get the tub.
Let us know how you enjoy your Epic when you get it.
-
I have never been a fan of sound systems on spas but brought them in and sold them because many customers where looking for them. Until recently....
On a whim I ordered my Epic with the SoundSations and now I have a much different opinion! I set out in my spa and listen to CD's every night that I can...It's incredibly cool!!
Yes it is wired, you get 100 foot of cable and it took me about 10 minuets to run the wire under the deck, drill a small hole in an outside wall and hook it to my stereo.
You can order a repeater and remote to control the stereo from the spa.
-
Thanks so much for all you help! I feel better about spending the extra$$ If it were just me, I wouldn't have but my husband is the ultimate music lover. I can't wait to see him dance in this hot tub. Because we did order the sound system, our tub won't be here for about 4 weeks or so. That actually works out well since I am still working on the landscape also. I think we will add on to our deck instead of seting the tub on a pad and adding decking around it.
The dealer said the sound system works with the cover on too. I have to say I was floored at how good it sounded in the show room. We got the dolphin remote with the system..have to wait for the kids to show me how that works. Cappykat, we may be taking delivery around the same time. I am hoping to have it in place for my 22nd wedding anniversary, December 2! I have put in a special order for a snow storm that weekend!
I think half the fun of buying something this cool is the anticipation....!
-
I listened to the stereo on the Maxxus prior top ordering my tub. I too was amazed by the sound (especially with a built-in sub!). I am a real music hound, and for me the system was a must-have.
No regrets here 8) If you love music, I say go for it!!

Stuart...thanks for the post. So all we have to do is wire it from the soundsations to our existing stereo and voila...we have music and we can control it from the spa remote? Wow...can't wait!!
-
You need to get the dolphin remote it an option and is not standard with soundsations....
-
Cappykat, did you actually hear the sound quality from a tub when you were buying yours? If not, You are really going to be surprised! If I understand correctly, the dolphin allows you to control everything from the spa. You can switch to TV audio, radio what ever.. And my son says even control all of the spa functions. So that means you have two remotes. (wonder how long it will take my guys to lose them!) Double check with your dealer because mine included the Dolphin with my soundsations. When exactly do you expect to get your Epic installed?
-
I didn't know it was called "dolphin" but I'm pretty sure we're getting that remote. I thought we could control the soundsations with the remote that floats around in the spa?? Is that the dolphin?
Delivery...umm, that is the $64,000 question!! The landscapers started today leveling the ground, designing the base for the pavers, and reworked our existing irrigation. I have my fingers crossed that we'll take delivery in 3-4 weeks, maybe sooner.
We had our first "cold" weather today. I think the low was in the upper 40's. It has been a BEAUTIFUL cool, windy day! Hey, I'm in Florida so we don't get temps in the teens...wish we did!! I LOVE cold weather! I was born in Florida and lived here all my life...I'm so over the heat!!
I'm looking forward to our first soak in the next few weeks. It's been a LONG process but we're on the short side now.
Oh, forgot to answer your question. We did hear the soundsations. Absolutely loved it! The only thing that compared was HotSpring's audio system...and it was $2000. Granted, theirs is something more than just speakers but we loved the soundsations in the Epic
-
The Epic comes with a little round floating remote to control some of the spa functions (like the lights). The Dolphin is a much larger remote that also floats. Check out the Marquis website
(I finally found the information on the sound system) It is in very small blue letters, underlined.
I was worried about you in the hurricane because I knew you were in Florida. That is my husband's dream to retire to Florida.
I enjoy the change of seasons and really love the winter, so we will need to build a refrigerated room for my wood stove!! I may put the hot tub in my huge refrigerator too!
Maybe we will all be enjoying our new tubs around the same time since we still have bushes to remove and a deck to build!
-
Aw...thanks for the concern. I appreciate that. We are fine as we are in the central part of the state. We did have 3 hurricanes hit us last year, but we were very fortunate that we had very little damage.
I'll have to say that Florida is a wonderful place to live but I'm like you...I like the changes in season. You can retire to Florida and I'll retire to the mountains in North Carolina...ha!
Keep us posted on your progress and I will as well. ;D
-
Here we go......! The dealer called this morning and came out to do a site survey and take a water sample. I have already called for the electrician to give me an estimate as well! The bushes will be moved this weekend, the weather is perfect to move them and with all the rain we had, they should just about walk out of the ground. We need to get a deck completed and hopefully we will be hot tubbin' by the beginning of December! I'll be ordering lumber tomorrow morning!
We are sooo excited. ;D :D ;D :D
