Title: Works on 115V but not 230V (Hot Spring)
Post by: Saycheese on September 29, 2005, 07:42:09 pm: Hello All, I had an electrician hook up 230V on my patio for my 2004 Hot Spot Sorrento.( bought used but it was never set up or run) He hooked the spa up and the GFCI would trip every time. I gave him the Hot Spot wiring instructions and checked his work at the spa and it all looked good ( wires in the right spot, power jumper wire removed, and Pogram Jumper JMP 1 moved to pins 1 and 2 ) He told me to call the dealer service. Well...I thought this is not quite right so....I hooked up the 115V today before I called the repair man an it started right up and ran fine! :-/ Any guess as to if it's the spa or the the wiring the electrician did up to the spa ??? Thank You.

Post by: stuart on September 29, 2005, 09:45:56 pm: My guess would be that the electrician hooked the load neutral wire (going to the spa) to the buss bar instead of the GFCI breaker itself. You should have a neutral pigtail (White) coming out of the bottom of the GFCI and another Neutral coming out from right under that. The pigtail and the line neutral (coming from the house) should be the only neutrals connected to the buss bar.

Post by: velocity23 on September 30, 2005, 05:44:19 am: I agree with Stuart. I would check the neutral coming from the spa and make sure that it is connected to the breaker and not the neutral buss.
1. Connect the #8 AWG, WHITE [NEUTRAL] wire from the Neutral/Ground Bar on the main
electrical service to the WHITE [NEUTRAL, Panel Neutral, Pigtail] of the subpanel.
2. Connect the #8 AWG, BLACK [L1] wire from the main electrical service to the subpanel
[terminal L1].
3. Connect the #8 AWG, RED [L2] wire from the main electrical service to the subpanel
[terminal L2].
4. Connect the #10 AWG, GREEN wire from the Neutral/Ground Bar on the main electrical
service to the GROUND terminal of the spa’s control box.
5. Connect the #8 AWG, WHITE [NEUTRAL] wire from the subpanel to the Neutral terminal
on the spa’s control box.
6. Connect the #8 AWG, BLACK [L1] wire from the subpanel breaker to terminal [L1] on the
spa’s control box.
7. Connect the #8 AWG, RED [L2] wire from the subpanel breaker to terminal [L2] on the spa’s control box.
8. Bond the spa to all exposed metal equipment or fixtures, handrails, and concrete pad pre N.E.C. and all local codes.

Post by: Saycheese on October 04, 2005, 07:40:33 pm: Well...the electrician was a no show Monday so I called my brother today to see if he could stop over after work. It took him about two seconds to see the problem. You all called that one! :) He also said the line that comes up from under the patio going in to the spa was not code!(wrong conduit?) >:( Then he asked to see the elect. permit that was pulled. I said I have never seen one but I was told it would be inspected...Hmmm. I sure hope this one turns out O.K. I need a hot soak soon.not a hose job by my electician :-/
