Title: Water Softener
Post by: marks on September 09, 2005, 11:22:04 pm
My dealer recommonds adding a water softner to my tub weekly.  Is this a good practice?  I use Nature 2 with Dichloro as my sanitizing system.

What is the water softner product? There are products that give the water a "soft feel" without lowering the calcium hardness reading and as long as you're maintaining a 150-200 ppm reading of CH then you're fine.

Soft water is not good for a spa. It will be scale forming and cause foam.

It is Beachcomber Soft, he has me adding 2 3/4 oz a week in a 400 gallon tub.  The lable claims:

Gives water a silky, smooth feeling
 Prevents pH bounce
 Promotes amore stable water balance

No ingrediant list, but the warning say contains boric acid.

Not sure how to measure calcium hardness, both my pH and alkalinity reading are fine.

Beachcomber's product "soft" falls into the catagory of water quality products that don't effect the CH readings. This reading should be tested at your dealer monthly.

Nice product.

I use "SOFT" from Beachcomber and it makes the water feel soft and smell like green apples.  And Ditto to what Steve said.
