Title: Diabetes
Post by: Mendocino101 on September 03, 2005, 01:26:53 pm
Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone had any links to articles about spa use and diabetes, I recently read where one study found after 2 weeks that some folks were able to cut back on insulin by as much as 18%. I have a sister in law who is suffering from this, and I wanted to do some more research. Thank you

Mendo, I believe there was an article in the New England Journal of Medicine dated September 16, 1999.  If memory serves correct, blood sugar levels were reportedly reduced by 13% when regularly soaking in a spa.  HotTubMan is right, the benefits were only for those with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

Hope this helps!

I tried to copy the appropriate links without success.  Artesian Spas web site has a link to "your Health" that has several links to "hot water therapy" including the following links.

Thank you and Yes you are right it is for type 2.....One thing in the articles that I find interesting is the concern that someone may burn themselves if they have minimal feelings in their legs but I have never known or even heard that at 104 max temp (UL) .....that is even possible to being burned ....

I have type 2 and I am going to be doing a study for myself on using the spa. We bought one. Our son finished the deck for us while we went camping Labor Day Weekend. My husband is calling dealer to see when they can deliver our spa. I will update if I see a decrease in sugar levels.
