Title: I'm padding(round 2)
Post by: tileman on November 24, 2006, 04:55:23 pm
That has to be the nastiest thing I've ever seen!

Are your referring to Salsa Sally, or whatever name was pasted on that video?

Gotta agree with you there, if you were.  Far more disgusting and offensive to me than a dead deer, even.

It must be like a car accident-- horrible but you cant take your eyes away? Why else start the thread over? :P I did not go back to look again, but the image is burned in my retinas. More disgusting, but much less pathetic than a dead deer.

Well, animals need to get to dead before you can eat them.
Kinda how the food chain works......................

Oh lord- this again?? I have no problem with the food chain. Those not willing to understand how modern day meat processing/raising works or kill their own food should not eat meat. But there is a big difference between acknowledging the food chain and respecting where food comes from and having pictures of dead animals displayed as some form of bragging right. I'm not "grossed out" by dead or maimed animals. I see them every day. But I am saddened and horrified by human nature when somehow people can disconnect themselves from reality enough to smile over a carcass.

Galen, if you are out there, please come back. None of this is a personal criticism, just a good topic for discussion.

And I anne have a differing view. I am proud of being at the top of the food chain. I think if someone wants to show off and be proud of the hard work they undertook to aquire there trophy, then they should be allowed to do so. But I also believe in your right to be against it. I don't deer hunt, (I don't care for venison) but I have many photo's of me holding up the birds I have shot while walking in the woods. I have also brought both my boys up to respect guns and what they can do, and only shoot what your going to eat. They both own there own guns and hunt on there own every year. I would rather they learn about guns and shooting by my tootering and not the local school gangs.

Now this is Northern Minnesota and I realize things are different all over the country, and even 120 miles south of here.

Maybe if the animals had the ability to shoot back it may make it more fair

Don't get me wrong, I do eat meat, I'm just against hunting for sport. Hunting for neccessity or to feed your family is a different thing altogether.  I don't want to start anything up, I'm just stating my opinion

school

I'm not a hunter and could really careless either way but to say it's hard is ridiculous. Wearing camo, hiding in a tree, and having a gun that shoots for 100's of yards. Is hardly challenging.
Wearing civilian clothes, walking on the ground, and having a bow and arrow is challenging.
But as long as you guys enjoy it, that's all that matters. Like I said I could careless.
Just my .02 cents.

Just like in Crocodile Dundee!  He had a stuffed Kangaroo and started shooting poachers. I like that idea!

I'm not a hunter but consider myself a naturalist. I realize that it's important to thin the herds in order for  the whole population to not suffer. I think the only true sport in hunting is to be armed with a stick and beat the dear. Of course that 18 point buck may win but that's the sport in it! Either side can win or lose.

I laugh when I hear people complain about introducing natural preditors into their old habitats. Wolves and Coyotes are being looked at and people don't want them around ... I guess if you introduce 5 pair of wolves and they start multiplying eventually the hunting of dear and such will stop because they will thin the herds themselves, eventually industries lose money from the lack of hunters.

Sadly, our herds of deer are being thinned by automobiles!
Every day there are at least 2 or 3 dead deer on the road to my kids school. Needless to say nature takes care...we have an abundant population of buzzards  :-/..which if you know anything about birds, are awesome critters themselves ;)

But if your hunting for neccesity, you do shoot bambi and females and anything you see, and you kill as many as you can and you hunt them all year long. If your hunting for sport you shoot the biggest buck you can find, you only shoot one and you only do it once a year. A certain number of permits are issued to each area, and the herd is managed just the same as a heard of cattle. The difference is there is no fences.

Nature has a way of balancing itself.

Just in our own area I noticed a alot and I do mean alot of rabbits when we moved in.  Well its now 6 years later and now I can see an increase in the fox population and can even hear the odd coyote howl at night.  I understand Tmans point of careful hunters only taking a buck but I think if you leave it alone nature will even it out.  Once again its just my opinion and I know alot of people will have a different one.

As for the animals shooting back, that would really make it a sport! :o

Galen, I love your new bird. I think she is a young Yellow Nape Amazon...am I right? Her beak is light, that is the only thing throwing me....maybe a double yellow head?  In any case, she is a beauty...

Hmmmm. know your birds do ya? Good guesses Boni. But wrong on both counts. She is often confused with a Blue front or a Yellow front. As you must know Amazons get very aggressive around the age of five.I picked her spices for their mild manner and sweet disposition. She is a Panama. Not popular because they are not brightly colored.   Kona is only 7 months old. Just a baby. It seems like she learns a new word every day. I'm trying to teach her   Whasssuuuup! She's making this weird sound. I think she is trying to sound like me when I fell asleep in my office. Not good.  ::)

Galen,

I have always been fascinated by birds. Yours is beautiful. I wish I knew more about them so I could own one myself. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to take care of them properly and I don't want to put such a magnificant creature in any danger.
To keep this legal, have you ever brought one in the tub with you?

Chad

No, I haven't just because she is so young Kona still doesn't know me that well. We will be life long buddies. She will out live me by 50 years. They commonly live to 80. Kona and I do take showers together. She loves it. Now I don't know why but she starts saying "OH WOW" in the shower. I'll take a picture of her the next time she's wet. Tileman once you get one, they are addictive. How cool is it to have a pet that talks to you? I take her to work with me.

Kona is a beauty!!!!  I grew up with a double yellow head, and he is still with my parents- 3 years older than me!!! He could imitate my crying so well that my mom could not tell the difference sometimes. Once my grandparents came over and stood there patiently at the door for 15 minutes waiting to be let in -- every time they knocked they heard my "mom" say "just a minute!!!". Then my parents arrived home and said, "why didn't you just let yourself in??". They are amazing animals. I see a fair number of them at my practice, since a lot of vets will not work on them. Galen: let me be a nagging avian vet just once, and then I'll shut up. You feed her pelleted food, not seed, right? If so, good job. If not, PM me and lets have a little talk......... ::)
