Title: footer for a slab

Does a 8x8 by 4 inch concrete pad need a footer.

I don't think too many people do this.  I didn't, and I live in an area where the frost footings, when required, need to be 48" below ground.  
Do put in a good base, though.
You certainly could put your slab on footings, it wouldn't hurt anything.

Check with the township, my township requires a footer in each corner of the slab.
