Poll gang, I want to know what made you decide on the hot tub that you bought or if your going to be buying one, what is the reason your looking for one??
-
Cacooning at home is the new wave
Romance over television
creating a captive audience between me and my children
bragging rights for 1st on the block
wellness
relaxation
stess relief
just cause it was the right thing to do
-
All those things Rayman said and help with insomnia and tried a relatives and said, "Had to have one"
Didn't Caligula have one?
-
I had an extra 8 grand lying around and I started to think about all those poor starving hot tub salesmen and thought to myself "there must be something I can do."
Plus my wife didn't think we were using our fair share of electricity.
Actually for relaxation and entertaining. The hot tub really made the cold new england winters so much better. With the hot tub I can get outside, look at the stars, enjoy the backyard in the dead of winter .
-
I wanted some relief for stress. It sure is nice, after a long day at work, to go home and release the day's tension from my neck and shoulders!
Plus, I have wanted one forever!!! Since I gave in to my hubby's want for a greenhouse the year before, I got the hot tub to appease me!!!
The goddess is now happy, relaxed, and nearly stress free!!!!
-
You know, ya'll keep telling me that I'm the comic relief around here, but, you guys sure make me laugh

I don't have a huge backyard... no one does where I live. The previous owner had an above ground pool and raised deck that literally consumed the ENTIRE SPACE. I still wanted "something" so a hottub it was. Much more useful IMO since it's year round.
What gave me the idea... was after a really hard day of skiing (I way over did it) I felt absolutely terrible until I got into this outdoor hottub at the Killington Resort Hotel... I felt like a million bucks after that. Totally sealed the deal.
-
I got it for a few reasons.. I always liked the hot tubs at hotels... and my yard cannot accomidate a decent size pool without looking like crap and leaving me no room for a patio, dog ect. (GF's parents would have given us there 24foot above ground pool).
A spa makes a lot of sens in todays rediculously sized yards.
For some reaon they always attracted me, hell a few years ago when I was still in school living at my parents I was looking at them... they are cool to look at indeed.
Cant waite to actually sit in mine.

Very good point. I live in Columbus, Ohio and everyday I drive by quarter to two million dollar houses that are butted up against each other with no yards. My yard couldn't fit anything bigger than a kiddy pool.
-
Revlis, we seem to be in identical situations hehe.
I cant waite to come back from a big hard day of skiing and then coming home to some sweet ass hot spa.
nice.
-
And lastly since I plan on moving within a few years.. I wouldnt want some guy to tell me he doesnt want to pay extra for my in ground pool for my house...
With the spa, you dont want to pay extra for it? Then its comming with me! hehehe ;D

I hear ya, Over at Sunday River they have a huge outdoor heated pool and hot tub. Sitting outside in the winter in a hot tub is great and started me thinking about how great would it be to have my own tub...."
Of course, those comunity tubs are a bit gross....last febuary when i was there, an older gentleman is sitting in the hot tub and is complety covered in foam smilling away....
ewwww.
-
I was on Vacation and used the Hot Tub there. I loved it and slept well. We picked one up and it has been great. Even better than i thought it would be. I love the winter months now. ;D
-
I love the water.
My younger daughter loves the water.
My older daughter has beautiful friends ::)
-
What better way to turn your backyard into a resort ;D
-
Wanted it for about 10 years.
I'm hoping for stress relief, relaxation and minor back ache relief.
-
My body aches after a day at work & i'm to young to feel old, so I bought a big tub & it works, back feels great, knees feel great also a major stress reliever.
-
Like many others, I tried a friend's tub a few winters ago and said "I gotta get me one of these.' Unfortunately it took until six weeks ago before we had the right place for one.
I agree with all of the above posts as to relaxation before bed, working out knots in the back, relieving achy muscles after work AND play, entertaining friends etc.
But I also find its a great way for my wife and I to reconnect when we start leading busy (and often separate) lives. Sitting in the hot tub at night under the stars, its a perfect, intimate setting to just relax and talk. Its been a rather unexpected bonus.

My wife.

My wife and daughter.
(They always win.)
PS. They were absolutely right. I'm in it every night.

I was in a car accident and got a small settlement. I decided, what better to spend the money on than something that would help the resulting pains. After all, the money was for my pain and suffering (which I do) Besides, my husband has been living with chronic back pain for years, so it was really something for both of us. It was the best purchase I ever made.

Ruby, has it helped with the chronic back pain? Cause that is the main reason for buying our coleman, I've had several back surgeries and 3 fusions and I'm at taht point where the only thing doc recommends is a pain pump, I'm trying to avoid this
-
We bought our small hot tub for theraputic purposes plus the relaxation it provides. The Watkins Solana Tx (the smallest tub available ) fits into one corner of our 12'x15' glass sunroom, formally an open patio. Our Dr gave us an RX thus no sales tax. We love to relax in the tub at nite looking up at the stars thru the glass roof. We think the senior market is mostly overlooked. Point out the soothing benefit & tax break to older customers! We wish we had bought ours years earlier. BTW Do we own the only Solana TX in N. America? The are NEVER mentioned here.
-
I sell between five and ten of them each year. They are the only spa on the planet which doesn't wear a HotSpring logo yet has a Moto Massage Jet.
Great little tub.
-
BP:
"Ruby, has it helped with the chronic back pain?"
This is not and easy answer. As you know, all back problems are different. He is not a candidate for surgery. Doc says there's too many discs involved. Plus, now artheritis is kicking in. Says he just has to learn to live with the pain. Although, I have read with interest about the pump that you were talking about. I told my husband to ask about that next time he goes in to the doc.
Husband really enjoys the tub. He uses it every morning before work and most nights. He says when he's in it, is the time that he has least amount of pain. If only he could stay in 24/7!
Like I said all backs are different- I really hope this is the ticket for you! Good Luck.

Chas
I sell about 30-40 TX's a year down here in FL. We sell a lot of them in Key West. Limited spaces, great little tub.
-
Ditto here, 30-40 TX's for patios, bathrooms, mobile homes, townhouses, houseboats.

Great question Backpains,
I bought my first tub 11 years ago because I started selling them and it was a job requirement ( tough job huh.)
It changed my life. My kids were 4, 5, and 6 at the time and we had just bought an old victorian home that required a bunch of money and many hours of hard work to restore. On top of that I was working 6 days a week and raising a family.
While other friends were able to buy boats and take trips, we soaked our (poor) sore bones in our backyard spa and enjoyed watching our kids play and swim in the spa. It was my sanctuary and my only vacation for many years. It created an intimate stress free enviroment for my husband and I, and is probably one of the reasons we're still married after all these years lol.
The first hand ownership experience certainly helped me sell them as well. We're older the kids are older and we've been able to take vacations and buy boats now. Nothing compares to the conveinence and stress relief I get from my backyard spa. It's hot and ready for whenever I choose to use it. :)
-
Had one years ago and loved it. Keeps me from being stuff and sore no matter what I do. Also the only way I can enjoy being outside in the winter.
-
Because chicks dig it.
-
At our first house I put in an above ground pool. It was great but here in NJ we really only get 3 months use out of a pool and the rest of the ryear it sits with a cover taking up your yard. When we moved I started looking a hot tubs. My wife is a 'pool person' and it took me a few months to actually convince her to try the hot tub. We couldnt be happier. Our kids love it and we spend so many great nights together.
It is so awesome to be outside with snow all around and the steam rising from the water. I also installed a retractable awning over it so in the summer months I just turn the heat down and roll out the awning, The awning keeps the hot sun off of us and it is very refreshing(again the kids love it!!).
We have also made very good friends with the two families on our street who have in ground pools. We make sure they are invited to every hot tub party...LOL...SO I would say I bought it for the fact that it can be used year round and it is a great place to spend time with the family.
-
The CIC (chick in charge) told me we were buying a tub.

Cue cheesey 1970's porn music. ;)
-
Its funny you bring up the 70s music. I was just talking to someone about my tub yesterday and he said that hottubs are the first step to being a swinger, followed by red shag red carpet, and polyester pleated pants with elastic waste and cheesy moustache and white socks.
Seriously though, I have always wanted a pool of some sorts, but being in my line of work, I have seen the down side of children and pools. So now that I have my baby I refuse to put one in the back, plus it would take up to much room.
I wanted something all year round and being in Canada obviously you are aware that is cold more than it is hot. Well we landscaped and order a concrete patio and I spent about 1 1/2 years trying to convince the wife.
I cant wait to spend the nights with my wife outside, and the fun my baby will have. Piece of mind having the top lock up is nice as well.
My neighbour just put in a beautiful swimming pool and we have worked out a nice deal, so I have the best of all worlds.
-
.... hottubs are the first step to being a swinger, followed by red shag red carpet, and polyester pleated pants with elastic waste and cheesy moustache and white socks.
Hey! My wife says I look good in polyester pleated pants and the red shag cartpet was already in the house when we bought it. Honest!
Honey? Have you seen my moustache clippers and white socks?
-
nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Echoing a lot of others, a mix of 'relaxing' and 'helping various neck and back problems'.
And it's a lot cheaper than watching the shower water run down the drain... ;D
(Now if I could *just* get someone to sell me the one I want.... :'( )
-
The Mrs. convinced me we needed a hot tub. She broke her foot a few years ago and developed knee problems due to the cast she had to wear. The knee problems haven't gone away even with physical therapy.
It didn't take much to convince me though. I'm in my early 50s and, for some reason which I can now no longer remember, I decided to take up karate a couple of years ago. All that training takes its toll. Sometimes, after class, I'll borrow my neighbor's hot tub and it helps minimize the soreness and other aches and pains. It seems to melt it away.
So we're building a screened-in porch to house a Marquis Reward we are purchasing. It will keep the snow off in the winter and bugs out during the spring & summer.
Plus, from what I've read while lurking on this site, I'm hoping it will give us more "family time" now and in the future.
Did I mention my obnoxious neighbors who don't offer us the use of their pool? There will be a solid wall on that side of the porch!
My contractor tells me we should be able to have the spa delivered in the next week or two. I'm creating a web photoblog of the construction from beginning to end of the screened-in porch and spa installation. Once I get the bugs worked out, I'll post the link.

Well we have always wanted one. My in laws had one on the Cape back in Massachusetts where we used to live so we loved using theirs when we would hang out there. My husband's job is very stressful and since he's always wanted one he decided to treat us to one. Unfortunately we couldn't afford the best of the best but I will let you all know how we enjoy ours. The platform has been built but now we are waiting to get the tub delivered so that the rest of the deck can be built around it. We are going on vacation (back to Mass) for a couple of weeks so we won't get to enjoy it until mid July sometime.... Our children are pretty excited about it as well. Til then....will write a review.

Rachel,
I am not sure what spa you bought.....but I am sure you will enjoy it none the less .....I know for us our customers who purchase smaller spas ...less jets than our larger say 40 plus jets spas, Seem to be just as happy .....I think the Hot water and jets in most any spa will simply make you feel better ....What people consider to be the better spas...Are really such because of the long term commitment of the the manufacture and dealer to standing behind their products for years after the sale ...As well as energy efficiency ......build quality ....etc......but what ever you bought will make you feel better ......

I have longed for a hot tub for many years now, but with getting our careers on track, kids, new home, etc., it just kept getting pushed to the back burner, so to speak. Finally, after remodeling almost the entire interior of the house, I stood my ground and said, "next is the back yard, and it is mine, I'm getting a spa, and you (the lovely wife), can decorate as you see fit, but I WILL have my Hot tub! So I took out a modest improvement loan, got an awesome new grill, a deck which I built, new patio furniture, and of course, the spa. It is a Sundance Bahia, with stereo, and I LOVE it! (except for the filter socks, which are a MAJOR pain in the a$$). Next I have to build a pergola and about 600 square feet of stone patio to complete my project, and I'm sure the spa will make the evenings after working much easier ;D
I've always wanted a hot tub, and I guess the socialization we had while spending so much time in one during our last trip to Jamaica really put the bug in me. I decided I wanted to make my own personal paradise in my back yard, so we could enjoy it year 'round. Here's to Jimmy Buffet tunes, a cold refreshing beverage, a lovely woman at my side, and of course, hot bubbly water! ;D ;D ;D

And your wife serving the drinks to you and the lovely women

wow ! Lots of thought about digging in the pocketbook!
I bought my spa because:
I had done the research and feel I made a good purchase
I deserved something I always wanted
It was my hard earned money I spent and there is no one I had to justify the purchase with
It makes me feel better all over
It is a good excuse to go outside at night and look at the stars and the moon which I truly love
I sleep really well after getting out of the spa(now I need a new mattress LOL)
the added benifits I have found are:
I actually talk to my children when we are in it(I know what goes on in their lives now wow)
I am getting to know who my childrens friends are now.. they are 18+ you see
It is a good excuse to get friends to come over and I dont HAVE to cook...
