I'm looking at an Artesian spa in the platinum line. Combing over the specs I can find no details on an air pump. It looks like it doesn't have one. Does anyone know what's up with that?

Bryan....
I may be wrong but I dont think they have them. Didnt seem to have one in the Dove Canyon we wet tested.

Artesian doesn't use an air blower system.

Vinny,
I didnt think they did. We didnt see one when we looked at them either.

hey all,
The air pump is a nice feature but fading as a real
neccessity. The air blower feature was first designed to
mask the actual amount of water movement in a spa,
some companies still utilize this feature.
The Artesian line does not offer it, although
with the power of the line, do you really need it?
hottubber... ;D

OK then. Next question. Why do others spas have air pumps? What would I be giving up in going air-pumpless versus air-pumped?
-
Air blowers are a bit of a drag! The are very cold on the skin (even in Arizona!) and cool the spa considerably- although this is not a bad thing in AZ. Generally they are very loud and obtrusive. Just one man's opinion.

Your not really giving up anything UNLESS you want a tub that you can sit in with air being blown into the water while the therapy pumps are off.
Different manufacturers design their tubs differently - Sundance has blowers I believe on their 800 series tubs and not their 700 series tubs. Emerald Spa (not the Artesian Emerald) has a blower in all their tubs and channels the air into their therapy jets whenever the therapy pumps kick on. A lot of manufacturers have a blowerless system to mix air and water together when the therapy pumps come on.
I guess it depends on what you like and want in a tub!

Vinny is on the mark! Some tubs offer them, some don't! It is a matter of personal preference, or it was in my case when I was shopping!!
Sundance and LA Spas had it, Hot Springs didn't! It wasn't a major consideration for me! Nice to have, but I don't miss it (since I bought the HS)! It is kind of like a lounge, or no lounge, it is based on what YOU want!!!
Try at least one tub that has one and one tub that doesn't! See what you think!
Good luck!!!

When we were wet testing the Sundance Optima we did notice the air....it was actually pretty cool blowing into the spa...
Just a different sort of feel...but if you like the cooler air blowing then you might really enjoy this. I dont like/dislike it. :)
