Title: Question for spa techs/people in the know....

I own a 2003,Caldera Geneva Utopia. It has 3 diverter valves. I want to do some preventive maintenance on the valves.

My question is.....What lubricate can/should I use on the O-rings for the diverter valves? Will the plain old stand by "vaseline" work?

Use a teflon-based lube.

Don't use Vaseline.

You would be better of and find Teflon o'rings. Lubing the o'rings will cause debris to gather.

There is a lube that you can purchase called "Magic Lube". Don't use vasaline, you will case the o'rings to break down....

Thx all!  I used the teflon lube stuff. I had some laying around for use on the pool equipment.  

When I took em apart,I noticed a little wear on the inner plastic parts,almost as if they were scratched from dirt/sand etc.  They still function perfectly,so not too concerned at this point. Possibly in the future,can see needing new valves. Wondering,would I need to use a new "plastic sleeve" where the plastic globe part of the valve makes contact?

In the worse case,I'll engineer my own,possibly outta stainless steel.  I'll check with Chas,and or a Caldera dealer,and see what parts are out there.

I am a Caldera dealer, but I have no idea. If they are the same as HotSpring valves, then the wear is normal, and shouldn't cause a problem as long as you open them every once in a while and keep the sand and grit out of them.

This is one area where I can see a real difference between the HotSpring and Tiger River spas: the Tigers don't have the 100% no-bypass filtration, so they tend to get grit into the diverter valves. I usually show the owners how to clean them out - it's not tough to do - so they can prevent a problem.  A HotSpring hardly ever does this because there is never unfiltered water going through the pipes.
