Title: First soak in the Envoy this morning
Post by: Bill_Stevenson on January 13, 2005, 11:05:46 am
Life is good.  The tub has the new for 2005, double Motomessage in it, which is much more effective than the old single one.  The lounger itself is harder to stay planted in than the one in the Geneva.  I think the Envoy is gentler, not as strong jets if that makes sense.  This is not all bad as modulation of the diverters is easier/less critical and the diverters are quieter.  I will get used to the Envoy as it is a wonderful spa, but still think the Geneva is the better unit.

For those of you who asked for the reasons for the change, the Geneva went with the old house.  It cost nothing to own as having it brought more for the house than it was worth.  I could not get another Geneva delivered to the new house in the time frame needed by the builder (Watkins apparently shuts down for about a month starting in mid-December and my dealer did not know that and placed the order on 12/15).  The Envoy was in stock and literally delivered just in time.  I picked the Envoy because it was the most similar to the Geneva of those that I wet tested last year.

Regards,

Bill

Bill,
Your saying that the envoy has too much power? If you can't remain in your seat did they over power the lounger jets? Many have talked about not staying in the seat on the envoy.

We have no problem staying in the lounger but we set the diverters to the 6 or 12 o'clock position to get moderate power to all jets at once.  We like to hop from seat to seat.

It is not too much power in the Envoy, it is the design of the lounger that is not quite as good as the Geneva.  I am sure that after a week of use all of this will resolve itself.  Every spa is different and getting used to a new one takes more than one soak.   The Envoy is quite a nice spa.

Bill

Do you work a Dayshift?  Those before work soaks are great.

It's new in the 2005 models that are just now hitting the showrooms.

Yes, double Motomessager in the lounger.  Parallel ports one on either side of your spinal column.  I really did not think the Moto was all that great before, but this new setup is quite effective.  I don't know what other changes there are for 2005 with Hot Spring, but that is a big one.

My wife and I had lunch together today (a rare treat) and we both agreed that this morning's soak left us unusually relaxed.  I think the Envoy is a more gentle spa than the Geneva, which really works you over with its more powerful jets.  There are times when the Geneva is just too strong I guess, but is going to take me a while to convince myself that the Envoy is as effective overall.

One thing I need to look into is LEDs on the outside of the spa.  Our Geneva had them and they made it easy to see when walking to and stepping up to enter the spa in the dark.  The Envoy doesn't have them.  I never thought about these lights until they were not there.  Just a little thing, but one of the details that made the Geneva so enjoyable.  My wife misses the bump on the floor too.  And we both miss the lighted handle to grab when entering and exiting the tub.  The Geneva beats the Envoy on these little details for sure.

Mr. Stevenson, you might take a look at the Clarion light kit from HotSpring.  It is a series of light bars that can be mounted around the spa and on the steps.

Clarion light kit sounds like what I've been searching for... CEO, you happen to have a link/pics for that kit?

This is the link to the Clarion light system. (Sorry I haven't figured out how to make the link hot, yet)

great thanks! That is what I want for the steps.

Are those LED bars an independent add on for any tub, or are they only a dependent option for a Hot Springs light kit?

Floating in the lounger?  Have you tried a Weighted Belt.  I bet doc has some.  They can help.

I believe they will work on any Watkins spa, not sure about other brands.  Chas, I'm sure, would know.  I've not sold any yet as they are relatively new.

Thank you all for your feedback.  I am glad to know that lights are available from Hot Spring and will ask my dealer for a price.  I have to think about a weighted belt, though, as I am not sure it would solve the problem.  The lounger is just not shaped right for me somehow.  When I sit in it with my feet on the foot jets, my neck is out of the water.  If I squinch (is that a word?) down to get my neck, my lower back is pushed away from the back rest and my feet become cramped up; so I move them, and in so doing lose my anchor.  Then I float up and out of the seat.  But if I put a weight belt on, it would put stress on my lower back, methinks, and that of course would be counter productive.  Maybe I can borrow one from the dealer to try.

Bill

There is a weight that you lay across your legs, not necessarily a belt.  I just don't remember where I saw them!

Maybe poolandspa.com, spadepot.com, and rhtubs.com would be places I have looked at them.  I just didn't have to buy one, because I didn't get a lounge!
