Just got this IM from my sister, concerning her son Joe.
LouiseXX (1:31:55 PM): JOE CALLED ON SATURDAY AND HE AND HIS DRIVER WENT OUT THE GATE TO PICK UP A VEHICLE THAT ANOTHER SOLDIER GOT KILLED IN AND ON THE WAY BACK TO THE CAMP THEY RAN OVER A ROADSIDE BOMB AND HIS VEHICLE WAS BLOWN UP. HE AND HIS DRIVER WALKED AWAY WITHOUT A SCRATCH

Thanks be to God.

WOW! Glad they're both OK.

I've been talking about my recent 25th anniversary. This guy was there for the wedding even though he was only 2 weeks old.
5 months down, 7 to go. I think he gets leave in August.

Thank the Lord that he is OK! I am so thankful for our servicemen and women. Wow, I feel for all the parents that have children in the war. I can't fully imagine what that must feel like, and I must admit, I don't want to know firsthand.

Agreed, this is a close as I want to get, I've been deluding (sp?) myself that he never goes off base, so he is pretty safe.
I'll email him and ask him if he has used any of Saddam's hot tubs. I heard Sadam loved them, they were his haven

Ok Bill,
Did you word it that way on purpose? Or is using those two special words in the above sentance a complete co-incidence?

Nothing gets by the Brewman~!

Thank's for giving me some perspective on life today. I'm glad you're nephew is safe and I admire him for his courage and service to our country.

Yeah, I'd probably make a good moderator!
That or a really, really, bad one. ;)

My nephew - who was sent right into Baghdad just as things were cooling down - has decided he would rather be in the Army than work for Uncle Chas.
We are getting ready to pray a lot again.
His specialty it Hummer Mechanic, and they put him just back of the front line last time. I think he somehow thinks they will not do the same thing again, or that it is safer now.

I hope they get the guy some updated weaponry before he goes.
May God(whichever one he prefers) be with him.

I can guarantee the round coming out of that M14 will have a much greater effect on whomever it contacts the the M16's 5.56.
Thank God for Joe and those like him.

His is a maintenance group, defending themselves is an after thought.

You get that wirless network running? I'd settle for shooting some automatic weapons on your range!

The wireless is running! Never did figure out the security thing though, I suppose the neighbors are reaping the benefits of Wide Open Wests' highest speed cable internet. It is pretty neat to sit on the deck and use the internet.
My dept. issued Sig SG551 SWAT select fire came in a few weeks ago, it is a beauty. Hope to qualify with it next week, it has been rainy and I don't go play with guns in the rain unless I have to. I must be getting old, the newer officers still think it's fun.
Our dept range was never able to handle rifles, and now it is closed due to lead contamination. Say when and we can go to the New Albany Range though, I've got LOTS of guns to play with.
