My cruise is less than 3 weeks away, and although it is my 11th commandment - Thou shall not wear a tie unless required by law, and never on vacation.
Interestingly I found this morsel on a cruise forum, it supposedly quotes a Carnival Cruise document
Blue Jeans will be allowed in all dining rooms on all Houston departures, due to the Texas culture."

I used to think that way about Term and the boys from the the Lone Star state. Then I saw a TV story about Austin last week that blew the doors off the myth about Texans. Term has been hiding some facts about them thar cowboys. Sure, he'll tell us that Austin doesn't count but I'm thinking there a lot more to the story than meets the eye!

The Texas Culture involves not acting "uppity" by putting on aires and dressing all foo-foo to impress.
Now some folks wear their best boots and Stetsons when they're goin' courtin' or boot scootin' or to church, but no self-respecting Texan would feel the need to get all gussied up for something as casual as a cruise. A suit and tie are strictly for funerals, nothing else.
As far as what goes on in "The Buttcrack of Texas" (Austin), I wouldn't even venture a guess as to what you saw on the television set. Probably something along these lines, which ain't necessarily all bad:

If I was to start writing my own Bible, or commandants this might be on the first page.

I'll wait for the uncut, unrated DVD to come out (though I might have to screen it at the theatre a couples times first).
